The building presents itself as a long rectangular prism folded such as to meld with the surrounding landscape.
At the location of the break resulting from this bending, a breach is created. The side of this polygon then cascades open to resemble a breaking wave.
Two distinct volumes of contrasting colours comprise the architectural program. The recreational sector including pools, water games and slides offers a variety of aquatic activities for all ages. The competitive sector includes an Olympic swimming pool and diving boards and platforms from 1 to 5 metres.
Joining the two, a portion of the envelop curls upwards and creates an imposing openwork canopy. The gesture extends to the roof, where once again, the envelope opens and creates a skylight spanning the entire width of the building.
In parallel with the aquatic sectors, a strip of services spreads out over two levels and includes a hall, a universal changeroom, administrative offices, bleachers that can accommodate 350 spectators and a multi-purpose room.
Curtain walls and prefabricated insulated steel panels make up the majority of the envelope’s components.
Inside, white stretched canvas ceilings ensure good light distribution and exceptional acoustic properties.
