GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 13th edition
Stripping off the 55 Mont-Royal Ouest building layers from previous, unflattering renovation work, atelier big city revealed its attractive original aspect.
The use of quality materials, such as the light brown terrazzo, and the smart and dynamic play on colour, like the combination of orange and its complementary blue, may seem simplistic at first glance. Yet, combined with affordable strategies such as signage, clever ceiling design and a variation in glass opacity, the space becomes a graphic work of art that illuminates the circulation areas in a playful manner.
The correlation between colours and materials establishes a dialogue from the outside, in, contrasting remarkably with the city’s gloomy greyness
