LE MONARQUE
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
Timeless and sophisticated, Old Montreal’s Monarque, designed by Alain Carle Architecte, remains true to the intrinsic quality of the building, while ensuring coherence and harmony.
Hosting a bar, a bistro and a dining room with a kitchen view, Monarque has undeniable warmth and soul. Materials are simple and durable, such as the marble floor’s fan-shaped tiles, chosen for their curvaceous motif, capable of geometrically negotiating contrasting space axes. The ceiling, stonewalls and steel beams act as traces of the succeeding transformation throughout time. Though there are only three windows in the room, there’s a sense that we’re still in the streets here, pulsating to the city’s vibe.
The jury rewarded the use of lighting and researched choice of furniture and materials, as well as the impressive continuity and scale of the project.
