Théâtre Gilles-Vigneault
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
In the heart of the mountains near Saint-Jérôme, the architectural concept for the Théâtre Gilles-Vigneault rethinks the theatrical experience and mirrors the effervescence of the city’s renaissance.
Atelier TAG and Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes wanted to create a performance venue that would become a social catalyst and major cultural and economical driving force for the community. The iconic and graphic project pays tribute to the region’s prominent wood industry. Wood is showcased in the elegant venue’s design, in the luminous common spaces as well as in the most inviting outdoor areas. Seen from Rue de la Gare, a majestic wooden canopy hosts the forecourt and lights up magically at nightfall. Festive and uniting, the theatre offers a poetic gateway to the Laurentians, like no other.
The jury praised the balanced nuances of the wood tones and the spectacular aspect of the pavilion’s ceiling.
