Elää
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition
Elää is a 41-unit residential complex that acts as a miniature village by splitting the building into multiple parts. The result is a porous and spatially varied environment with symbolic undertones.
The project is bold and well-made, using quality materials like concrete and wood. The segments are designed with a series of recesses and projections, which allow the complex to adapt to the surrounding area. Bringing life to the courtyards, some walls are equipped with cables to support climbing vines, and a series of suspended lights create a bright canopy above. The overall effect is intimate; the project engages its residents to understand and appreciate the space.
Elää’s goal is to achieve LEED Platinum certification by creating a durable, easy-to-maintain structure, and to prepare for the net zero energy pilot project, which will reduce energy consumption by up to 50% compared to a standard construction.
