GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 12th edition

Founded over ten years ago, ATOMIC3 offers artistic audiovisual experiences combining architecture, history and new technology. This is exemplified by their permanent luminous work, Translation 3, presented as part of a competition for Montreal’s 375th anniversary. St-Michel’s library façade, an emblematic site for the Villeray–SaintMichel–Parc-Extension borough, was transformed into an animated scene pairing luminous lines with shadow play, recounting the high points of the neighbourhood’s history. The jury was impressed by the theatricality of the work and its effective application of new technologies in a way that is both thoughtful and contemporary.
