PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE – PEOPLE OF DESIGN VERSION!
What prescient youthful memory relates to your present career?
I practice this profession by chance, or by a combination of circumstances. I don’t see in my distant past any memory that was premonitory or heralding my career as a designer.
What are three basic rules you learned from your mentors?
■ “If you want it, you can make it happen.”
■ “Believe in yourself, don’t listen to others too much.”
■ “Less is more.”
What project launched your career?
The Y Chair designed for Cappellini in the 1990s launched my career.
Any music playing while you work?
Music has an immediate impact on what I draw. I choose music on a case-by-case basis, depending on what I would like to feel while I draw.Music is clearly a component of what I design, far beyond the comfortable background sound it provides.
Do you work in PJs or three-piece suits?
The question resides not in comfort , but rather in the tension or the necessary concentration . As in everyday life, clothing contributes to this possibility of tension or casualness…
What is your current design state of mind?
A taste for change, a fresh start, a new beginning.
It’s exhilarating!
What is your most marked design quality?
What could be perceived as talent is merely hard work. I can do and redo, again and again…
What always inspires you?
Art, music, people.
What is your favorite place in the world?
I love travelling! I enjoy the idea of being one place one day, and elsewhere the next day. I can miss people (my family, my friends…) but I never miss a place or feel homesick!
