Inspired mainly by the enhancement of the core of the Saint-Joseph neighbourhood, the City of Drummondville was seeking ways to revitalize the sector by constructing a park and a new public space that would create a link between Saint-Joseph Boulevard and the public market. This 6-phase revitalization project includes the preparation of a master plan and the redevelopment of Parc
Gérard-Perron, the landscaping of a small public square with parking and the revitalization of streets adjacent to the public market.
Phase I:
With the incorporation of new sports and recreational facilities, this park was completely redeveloped. The project also includes landscaping and traffic calming measures, and lighting that is appropriate for the site.
The new space offers a multi-sport surface (skating rink, multi-purpose surface in summer), a “skate Plaza” style skate park with bleachers, playground areas, a splash pad, a half basketball court, rest areas and picnic spaces, planting beds, footpaths and modern street furniture to create an ambiance and a physical environment that are cohesive and contemporary.
Phase II:
This development proposes a public area that will connect the public market to Saint-Joseph Boulevard and provide pedestrians with a safe, smooth link. It incorporates contemporary lighting that will offer a unique, well-lit ambiance, as well as signature signage in architectural form to advertise the park and the market.
