The Académie des Sacrés-Cœurs, located at the foot of Mont-Saint-Bruno, wished to redesign the spaces dedicated the kindergarten areas. The challenge was to improve the sections allocated to learning activities and increase storage space.
Full-height modules were designed to maximize the storage of educational and recreational tools and accessories according to different levels of use, ranging from daily to seasonal storage needs. Each unit has an integrated bookcase in the shape of a small house following the classroom’s thematic colour. Easy access to books and individual compartments encourage children’s autonomy, while large handleless doors aim for user-friendly ergonomics. The white surface adorning the doors serves as writable board and drawing areas.
The benches are ideal for storage and allow children to have a direct view on the rich environment surrounding their school. They also offer additional surfaces for playing and interacting in small groups, or simply for resting.
To complete the space, a two-level exploration module inspired by tree houses marks the entrance to each class. This module allows both for playing and learning while also stimulating the children’s imagination. As for the teacher, it makes it possible for them to divide the class into several activity groups simultaneously.
