As part of the City of Montreal's Stations Hivernales project, Blanchette Architects and Momentum – transport consultants developed a path between four public spaces in the Mercier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. The scenography developed transfigures playful components of Montreal's landscape, namely the snow removal beacon, the transportation barrel and the construction cone to illustrate the landscapes and characters of Hochelaga author Victor Bégin, Le Collectionneur de Lueurs. Thus, the installation, in addition to its aesthetic qualities and reusable components, proposes a literary journey through Mercier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, treating each public place as a chapter in the tale. The arrangement of barrels on each of the sites, even candle boats according to Bégin's tale, manages to program winter spaces while respecting the social distancing in force. These new colorful, photoluminescent and luminous landscapes certainly stimulate the collective imagination and offer, through Bégin's tale, a gentle and benevolent reading of the current health crisis. By reinterpreting these everyday objects, Blanchette Architects and Momentum have affirmed the idea that it is always possible to see things differently, playfully and positively. The project was designed and built in 6 weeks with an average project budget of $27,000 per station.
