Espace St-Denis

Located on the ground floor of a triplex on the Plateau-Mont-Royal, the space occupying 1280 ft2 had to be modernized by an optimal division of the rooms, while respecting the existing architectural integrity. The idea behind Espace St-Denis by Anne Sophie Goneau, was to use raw materials to bring colour and originality to the environment.

Taking the center stage, the open plan kitchen unfolds onto the dining room and living room. Countertops and cabinets form a majestic black block that enhances the antique orange brick wall. A little further, the pristine white master bedroom is delimited by a glass partition revealing the brick wall; the young designer’s idea was to showcase the raw materials by echoing an archaeological window display.

In order to distinguish the private areas from the common ones, the floor was covered in a light gray epoxy coating and matte polyurethane, except for the bedroom and the bathroom floors coated in white gloss epoxy. Another bright idea: a light-emitting diode (LED) was embedded into the ceiling in the hallway leading to the bathroom, in order to create a warm atmosphere and highlight the ancestral hemlock wall. Winner of the Residential Space Award 1600 ft2 and under, this concept has impressed the jury with its bold and particular design. In a few words, a modernist, warm and well-balanced result.
