Distinguished Architect and Professor Jenchieh Hung Appointed to Jury for Grands Prix du Design Award
Jenchieh Hung, a distinguished architect and professor, has earned a stellar reputation for his innovative designs and significant contributions to architectural education. Over a career spanning decades, he has shaped both the built environment and the minds of future generations of architects. His expertise and influence have now been recognized on the international stage with his appointment as a juror for the prestigious Grands Prix du Design Awards in Canada.
As the co-founder and principal architect of the Thai firm Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS design and research, well known by the abbreviation HAS design and research, based in Bangkok, Jenchieh Hung has cultivated a distinguished career rooted in sustainability, innovation, and cultural relevance.
He is an architect member of The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA) and, in 2023, was appointed exhibition chairman and principal curator for several major international exhibitions. These include the Infinity Ground Architecture Exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) and Collective Language: Asian Contemporary Architecture Exhibition at the Thailand IMPACT Arena Exhibition and Convention Center, and he is the first architect in the world to organize a major Asian architecture exhibition in collaboration with the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA).
In addition to his curatorial work, Jenchieh Hung has served as a juror for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – RIBA International Awards: Asia Pacific Awards, becoming the first architect from Thailand to hold this honor. He is also a lifetime honorary professor at Kunming University of Science and Technology and serves as guest editor for the Journal of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA Journal), where he provides critical insights that highlight the rise of Thai contemporary architecture on the global stage.
Architect and Professor Jenchieh Hung is widely regarded as a forward-thinking leader in contemporary architecture in Thailand, Southeast Asia, and around the world.
He has recently gained international recognition for a series of outstanding projects in both Thailand and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Aluminum Thailand, Simple Art Museum, High Line Bangkok, Aluminum Grotto and Public Ground, The Glade Bookstore, Forest Villa, and Casa de Zanotta. Jenchieh Hung and his firm are the first Thai architect and Thai architectural firm to be listed in the Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory in the United Kingdom, as well as the Louis Vuitton City Guide Bangkok from France.
He and his firm have received numerous international awards, becoming the first Thai firm to achieve recognition in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Russia, China, Thailand, and Singapore. Jenchieh Hung currently serves as a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University, an adjunct/visiting professor at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, a visiting professor at Tongji University, and an adjunct professor at the World University of Design, as well as a distinguished professor at Huaqiao University.
His design studio, Hung And Songkittipakdee Laboratory (HAS Lab), explores the use of pattern formation as a strategy to simulate urban spatial systems. With a career that seamlessly bridges professional excellence, academic leadership, and global recognition, Jenchieh Hung continues to shape the future of architecture while elevating Thailand’s presence on the international design stage.
