Bullion Kitchen
Transformation of a Rooming House on Plateau Mont-Royal
Located in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal stands a century-old building that once served as a rooming house. Stepping through the threshold of this historic residence on Bullion Street, one is transported to a bygone era, surrounded by meticulously restored plaster moldings and echoes of countless souls who once called it home. A reorganization of the spaces was necessary to transform the once numerous and cramped areas into a new, luminous, and spacious kitchen, accompanied by an adjacent boudoir, reinventing the charm of the old abode.
The lofty ceilings and thoughtful selection of materials lend a majestic air to this reimagined double room, custom-designed to meet the unique needs of its residents. Inspired by mid-century design, the cabinets add a touch of originality and modernity to the space, breaking conventions to create an interior that reflects the personalities of its inhabitants.
After two months of work, the former small and impractical kitchen has given way to a versatile and inviting dining/boudoir area, transforming the double living room into a true heart of the home: the kitchen. One room, two atmospheres.
Custom elements in natural wood adorn the fireplace and harmonize with the checkerboard pattern of the flooring. The original red brick fireplace has been preserved, while the artisanal bench, with its warm hues, offers a convivial and practical space thanks to its clever storage solutions.
Every detail, from the faucet to the textured compact stone countertop, has been carefully considered to seamlessly integrate without compromising the authentic character of the house. A rounded steel plate, inspired by the moldings, adds depth and personality to the space, while brass, fluted glass of the china cabinet, and wrought iron impart a warm and harmonious atmosphere to this renovated kitchen born from a former small room.
