The Hotel Avándaro underwent a significant remodeling and expansion project to cater to the increasing demand from convention groups. In the past, conventioneers often mixed with regular guests and clubhouse members. This overlap led to confusion and a lack of clarity in space distribution. The primary goal of the renovation was to distinctly divide and delineate spaces, ensuring each group could relish its unique environment.
Architecturally, the challenge was to weave together the various periods and styles the hotel had witnessed over the years. It was deemed essential to retain iconic elements like the sloping roofs, albeit with a subtler angle, and to modernize the wooden beams, infusing them with a contemporary spirit.
This project aimed to strike a harmonious balance between the hotel, its picturesque mountainous surroundings, and the adjacent urban area. The new additions were meticulously integrated into the natural landscape, capitalizing on the panoramic vistas while honoring the scenic beauty of the site. By employing locally sourced materials and matching colors, the architectural design resonated with the aesthetics of the urban area, preserving the unique identity of Avándaro. This approach ensured the hotel’s seamless blend with both its natural and urban contexts.
To minimize environmental impact, several strategies were adopted. Restoration of existing elements was prioritized over total demolition, which significantly reduced material waste and the project’s carbon footprint. The partition wall facade became a primary structural material, offering durability and facilitating versatile integration across the hotel.
The Hotel Avándaro’s renovation is noteworthy for its emphasis on crafting distinct and functional spaces tailored to both convention groups and regular guests. The design harmoniously merged classic architectural features with modern touches. The pitched ceilings and wood beams were preserved, while tank was introduced as a cohesive element, rejuvenating the hotel’s appearance. The revamped design ensured a clear separation between conventioneers and regular guests, enhancing the lobby experience with offerings like welcome drinks and attentive service. The project was adorned with elegant wood materials, sophisticated lamps, and plush carpets, creating a refined ambiance. The project’s success lay in its ability to merge the hotel with its environment, all while upholding Avándaro’s essence.
Reflecting on its rich history spanning over 60 years, Hotel Avándaro’s evolution from a mere 12 cabins to its present grandeur is awe-inspiring. This renovation, while ushering in modernity, deeply respected and incorporated its illustrious past, underlining the hotel’s enduring charm and authenticity from its early evolution starting with the renowned architects Francisco Artigas and Arnold “Noldi” Schreck.
