The MONTONI house: a model of tomorrow’s offices in the heart of Espace Montmorency!

The new Groupe Montoni offices, a recent lively neighborhood project in Laval developed by MONTONI in collaboration with Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ and Groupe Montez, and designed by Sid Lee Architecture, combine pleasure at work, quality, well-being, services, design and sustainable development, all located in a dynamic, interconnected environment. Offering a multitude of services, the new downtown area in the northern crown is connected to the Montreal metro by an underground tunnel.

Inspired by the conviction that the workplace should reflect a company’s values and culture, MONTONI’s offices have been imagined as a home, with spaces for socializing, working, relaxing, all to foster collaboration and well-being at work. This philosophy also resonates with MONTONI’s more global vision for the design of post-pandemic workspaces. MONTONI’s dynamic microcosm offers workers an inspiring environment, designed with particular attention to each team member’s daily life.

The country’s green building pioneer leads by example. Thanks to the developer’s pioneering vision, its headquarters is a model of sustainable real estate development. The office tower, which is aiming for LEED NE Platinum certification, is connected to Espace Montmorency’s energy loop. This technology has cut the complex’s energy consumption by more than half, generating a more than 90% reduction in GHGs – a major feat. LEED CI Gold certification is targeted for MONTONI’s office interiors.

The Espace Montmorency office tower has also achieved WiredScore Silver certification – the world’s very first certification company for technology in buildings. It aims to set the standard for connectivity in properties.

The MONTONI offices are finally aiming for WELL certification, which aims to create an integrated environment that improves the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep and performance of its occupants. WELL, the benchmark for health and well-being in the workplace, is based on seven major themes: air, water, food, light, physical activity, comfort and mind.

The new MONTONI headquarters is also a showcase for Sid Lee Architecture’s architectural and design expertise. The interiors draw inspiration from these sister industries with a nod to city and construction codes through the use of concrete, aluminum, exposed structures and various finishes including bright orange.

The developer’s head office occupies the second and third floors of the Espace Montmorency office tower. Upon entering the lobby, the team, like the clientele, is greeted by a sinuous aluminum counter custom-designed by Sid Lee Architecture as a mechanical object that punctuates the space with an industrial touch. An augmented-reality dome, which allows visitors to tour all the developer’s projects, is available to them. Near the entrance, large openings allow the eye to circulate over the different levels, reinforcing the sense of interconnection between the various functions of the space. The floors are also linked by two floating staircases encircled by glass, creating an expansive effect. While the first is suspended from a black steel frame, the other is made of concrete and supported by a metal structure. To tie the separate elements together, a ceiling panelled in noer and walls plastered in Venetian plaster add a touch of warm texture to the raw, mineral appearance of the offices.

Located on the second floor, the Agora acts as a meeting place where team members can eat, relax and spend time with colleagues. Bordered by full-height windows and an impressive staircase suspended over a rich garden, the dining room incorporates movable bleachers, allowing team members to take full advantage of the Agora’s convivial atmosphere. A few steps away, a balcony terrace, overlooking the complex’s verdant outdoor courtyard, also offers teams the opportunity to enjoy some alfresco time.

The kitchen is divided into two distinct zones. Visible from the Agora, the main space features beautiful Italian-made matte black and olive green furniture, as well as walnut and aluminum countertops custom-designed by SLA. A sculptural light fixture imagined to resemble steel construction scaffolding floats above bright orange stools. Hidden behind a wall of blue lacquer cabinets, the second communal kitchen was built to reflect MONTONI’s sense of hospitality.

Like a home, the headquarters is built around a variety of areas that multiply opportunities to socialize, collaborate, relax, learn and recharge. Collaborative work areas dot the floors, while individual workstations can be adjusted for seated or standing work. Structures inspired by the universal grid interlock to accommodate electrical and mechanical elements, while acting as a divider to organize the space. Small areas where team members can take a coffee break intermingle with spaces where informal meetings take place. A training room, a gym, a multimedia room and workshops are also at their disposal. With an approach focused on the well-being of its occupants, Maison MONTONI by Sid Lee Architecture is a model of exemplary office design adapted to our times.
