Rely on Noréa Foyers expertise:
New Regulations for Fireplaces in Québec City
Update on the latest regulations regarding residential fireplaces. As an industry leader, Noréa Foyers wants to inform you about the recent developments and laws concerning fireplaces for Québec City, as well as the opportunities and challenges they present for designers and architects.
The new standard in Québec City now imposes stricter specifications regarding fine particle emissions for fireplaces appliances. Every new appliance must be certified for a maximum particle emission rate of 2.5g/h. The EPA standard is currently the most widespread, although not exclusive, aiming to reduce environmental impact and improve indoor air quality in our homes. This measure aims to encourage the adoption of more energy-efficient and less polluting equipment, an initiative we fully support in our pursuit of more sustainable design.

Appliance Replacement Program
The city of Québec now offers subsidy programs of up to $1000 for replacing wood heating appliances with more environmentally friendly models. This financial incentive provides an opportunity to recommend to your clients heating solutions that are both eco-friendly and visually appealing for optimal comfort.
The EPA and the Canadian Emission Percentage
It is crucial to note that by September 2026, all wood-burning, slow combustion fireplaces and heating appliances must be certified with the EPA. Decorative fireplaces will benefit from an additional grace period until 2030 before they must comply. This transition period requires particular attention when designing new spaces and renovating existing ones.
