The Parade Optometry Boutique is a functional and aesthetic space designed to meet the specific needs of an independent optometry clinic and boutique. Located in the heart of Espace Montmorency in Laval, this eyewear store was initially planned for a 1200 square foot space. However, following a reassessment of needs, the Parade Optometry Boutique required a larger space to accommodate all requirements. Thus, the project includes expanding the boutique to accommodate a greater number of frames as well as a second optometry room, resulting in a total area of 1800 square feet.
The available space was maximized by creating distinct yet harmonious zones tailored to the various functions of the Parade Optometry Boutique. The design and architecture facilitate smooth circulation of customers and staff while providing a welcoming and ergonomic environment. Situated on the ground floor of a residential tower, the space is shaped in an irregular triangular form with two long sides featuring glass facades. Consequently, there was only one available wall for plumbing installation and passage of clinical equipment.
The presence of structural columns in the middle of the space posed a significant challenge: integrating them into the project was essential. These two layout challenges gradually became a design premise and are at the heart of the narrative deployed for this concept: “creating a promenade inspired by an outdoor terrace.”
Abundant natural light thus became an integral part of the concept: a changing spectacle throughout the hours. To enhance and reinforce this indoor/outdoor idea, our team chose to punctuate the space with greenery, whose shadows and reflections are now part of the materiality. Additionally, the columns, treated as the pillars of this microworld, symbolize tall trees, with their roots serving as display stands, the trunk’s irregularities becoming mirrors, and the canopy gradually lightening to welcome the light. Customers can shop for their frames amidst an arrangement with an organic and timeless journey. This promenade integrates frames as beauty objects punctuating the walk: it naturally inspired the boutique’s name.
Parade: an outdoor procession for the exhibition of talents, skills, and joyful events. Parade becomes a destination, a place of visual richness.
Special attention to luminaire selection was worked with Lumigroup to echo the concept. Hanging high like large umbrellas modulating the sun’s rays, and all rounded, the suspensions find their reflection on the ground in the display stands, entirely designed to illustrate the organic journey of the indoor garden. Thus, from luminaires to display stands, everything has been designed to amplify the Parade project’s signature. A materiality emphasizing natural and warm tones on the floor, and airy colors at height blend into the place’s universe, respecting the clinical criteria of a space dedicated to eye health and suitable for a wide spectrum of clients. The natural tones and sobriety of the boutique environment allow frames to be the center of attention, thus highlighting their shapes, colors, and personalities, like flowers coloring bushes in a park.
