The Quadriptyque is a work of art located on the façade of the National Assembly of Quebec. During the next four seasons, it will feature the emblems of the Quebec province as well as Quebec\\’s motto: Je me souviens. The Quadriptyque allows the population to access this contemporary art creation in the gardens of the National Assembly. Accessible at all times, it amazes anybody passing by from close to far away.
First it attracts us by its stature, then it piques our curiosity since the passerby discovers multiple openings in it. The many points of view will allow access to all: from small children, adults and people with reduced mobility. The work is astonishing as much by day as by night and will provide visitors with two very different sensations. Note also that the design has been thought for the protection of birds and the safety of passers-by. Thus the succession of multiple tubular rods allows the lines to be perceptible by all of the surrounding fauna.
The oculus of the Quadriptyque will allow to discover the emblems of Quebec as well as the Je me souviens. First, let\\’s discover Bouleau jaune, the arboreal emblem of the province. An often forgotten tree, it catches the eye with its golden brightness. At its base the milkweed brings sweetness and fantasy, essential plant for the survival of monarch butterfly. Then as a second step, let\\’s discover the magnificent Harfang des neiges, the avian emblem. The 3th painting meanwhile introduces us to the Je me souviens. The artistic interpretation will be accompanied by this phrase: Issu de toutes racines, le peuple québécois s’est toujours tenu debout comme une fleur dans un champs en période de tempête. And for the final act of the Quadriptyque the Iris versicolore will eventually take its place at its heart.
The reflected lighting is modulated differently for each season to highlight the different distinctive elements. In addition, the external light sources, concealed on the covered roof, adapt to illuminate the festive days of the calendar.
The Quadriptyque is the artistic ideation of Patrick Monast. This work brought forth a large gathering of artists and collaborators. Several creators elaborated the emblems: Véronique, Diane, Johanne, Françoise, Thomas, Pascal. In addition to many artistic and technical collaborators: Matthieu, Claude, Mario, Sophie, Pierre, René and all the others. The emblematic heart of the Quadriptyque will allow us to remember who we are and how together we are strength in numbers!
