GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Accommodation, Restaurant & Bar / Inn, Motel, Bed & Breakfast : Platinum Winner
Patriarche, an architecture and design firm, was commissioned to transform three log buildings, including a stable, a shelter and a blacksmith shop, into accommodation cabins for ÖBois Charlevoix, an ecotourism center nestled in the heart of Charlevoix. These cabins, once used as they were by local snowmobilers, have been recycled into true Canadian chalets, perfectly combining authenticity and modernity.
From the outside, the buildings give the impression of being simple cabins, but once inside, the sleek and contemporary atmosphere is surprising. The rough-hewn wooden walls create an interesting contrast with the modern elements, producing a unique ambiance.
The Refuge, which has been converted into a dormitory, has been divided into two parts to comfortably accommodate two groups of travelers of four people each. Each part has its own entrance, private bathroom and sufficient storage.
The Stable has been redesigned and optimized to offer four rooms that can accommodate two or four people, each with a private bathroom. Two \ »Mud room\ » type storage units have been installed at both entrances, where visitors can store their outdoor equipment or clothing. The common corridor, which connects the different areas, was painted white to create a bright atmosphere. To add texture and warmth to the space, colorful rugs in various tones were used as flooring.
The Blacksmith Shop, on the other hand, was converted into a private cottage, featuring an open-concept living space with a wood-burning stove and a sumptuous bathroom in the back of the room with a sleek tub.
In the design and layout of the space, Patriarche has focused on functionality and comfort while preserving the soul of the place. Original elements, such as columns and log beams, have been restored to their natural beauty. For the comfort of visitors, a heated concrete slab was installed in each building at the outset of construction. In addition, the buildings are equipped with multiple storage spaces to meet the needs of all travelers, as well as adjustable double beds for maximum convenience.
The ÖBois Charlevoix site, surrounded by forests, trails, lakes and Quebec splendor, inspired the interior design, which respects the surrounding nature while providing ideal lodging options for groups and couples.
In short, the cottages offer an authentic boreal experience that inspires both tranquility and a sense of adventure, and allows the outdoor community to enjoy the place year-round. The beautiful and elegant signature of rusticity and modernity makes this an incredible place to recharge.
