Located in Terrebonne on Chemin St-Charles, the shape of the land follows the original cadastral divisions. This slender site is devoid of any vegetation. It is bordered on one side by St-Charles Road and on the other by the Mille-Îles River.
Given this narrow lot creating close proximity with the neighboring houses, it was important to properly frame the scenic view of the river, but also to protect the views from the sides.
A single-storey plan, completely open to the river, bordered on each side by concrete walls was put forth. The only exception to this planning is the master bedroom and adjacent rooms that overlook the landscape and add a third dimension to the whole.
A stratum, composed of a structure in walnut and covered with zinc, rises from the ground to frame the view and allow a free plan without a column. The structure consists of 2.1 m square bays with 60 cm depth and extends over the entire 593 square meters of the house. This structure, which rests on thin H-shaped columns, does not obstruct the magnificent view. The volume on the roof, occupied by the master bedroom, uses the same walnut structure. Some sections of this structure are open to the sky, allowing large trees to grow along the entrance.
The white staircase flows down from the upper floor creating a soft lightwell.
The white steel grid of the library extends from one side of the residence to the other and integrates all the functions and services of the home.
A gentle slope towards the river integrates the swimming pool, the shaded outdoor deck and spaces for relaxation and games. Finally, a long boardwalk extends towards the river and leads towards a natural beach—the high point of this exceptional landscape.
