GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition
Discipline : Architecture
Categories : Residential Building / Affordable Housing : Bronze Certification
The Dianova project consisted in the construction of a new 25-units building for the non-profit organization VILAVI. Vilavi Quebec is a non-profit organization, created for charitable purposes, whose objectives are to offer residential units for rent to low-income people in order to improve the housing conditions of destitute residents who have completed a therapeutic pathway and who need a place to live with community support to facilitate their reintegration.
The new 25 housing units building who is Novoclimat-accredited was a conversion project of a site located along the Ville-Marie highway in Montreal. It includes office space, a community room, a laundry room and a rooftop terrace incorporating plantings and a vegetable garden for the use of residents. The studio units are permanent residences for people with modest incomes in precarious housing situations.
The primary objective of the concept, developed in collaboration with the client, was to create warm and inviting spaces to ensure a sense of belonging and pride. Vilavi’s goal is to help tenants take care of their living spaces and develop a sense of identity, belonging and a sense of home.
The generous natural light, private and public spaces, the use of quality materials and colors, as well as the large size of the units, have allowed the development of a place that is easily appropriable and identifiable.
