Clients: Couple from the financial world, with two young adult daughters
This apartment is located on the top floor of a former convent on the mountainside. After evaluating the possibility of buying an apartment located on another site, clients contact the designer again to visit this project under construction, with much higher ceilings, and the possibility of having a through apartment. So, one Sunday morning, the designer and the clients visited the top floor of this heritage building, the interior of which had been completely stripped. There was therefore the possibility here of choosing the space where the apartment was going to be located: from this window to this one, from this column to that one. On site, the designer and the clients imagine how they would live in this unit lined with windows on both sides: on one side the city, on the other the forest.
In addition, a huge terrace located on the roof was accessible by a staircase from inside the unit: a big plus for customers.
The decision was therefore taken to create a classic base, with large moldings, worked cornices and round coffered doors, in order to recall the past of the building. Subsequently, the other interventions would be contemporary: kitchen, fireplace, bathrooms, furniture, etc.
The bleached oak floor was chosen to capitalize on the luminosity of the unit. At the heart of the apartment, a huge open space comprising living room, kitchen and dining room has been cleared. A closed office, connected to this space by glazed pocket doors, has been placed there.
The living room has a linear gas fireplace, clad in gray marble selected during a visit to a marble worker with the client. A long piece of furniture running on either side of the fireplace, joining the TV screen, in order to conceal the technology of the TV and the fireplace, while giving ample storage to this living room.
Two swivel armchairs make it possible to appreciate the fire, but also to turn to the guests and the dining room during a reception. The dining room has a view of the north of the city and is connected to a large balcony. Furniture in shades of grey, taupe and blue contrasts with the pale palette of the floor and walls.
In the kitchen, a huge 20’ long island structures the space. We cook there, we store there, we eat there, we discuss there.
Behind the kitchen, the staircase leading to the terrace, as well as a discreetly placed bathroom. In this one, a washbasin cabinet using the stone of the hearth, as well as walls lined with fabric dress up this space with chic.
Completely opposite, in the master suite, the bed, placed towards the view, can be bypassed on both sides to give access to a walk-in completely covered with stained oak panels. Here again, a huge glass pocket door gives privacy to the bathroom, while keeping the light from the window placed behind the bath in the bedroom.
Crystal lighting is placed above the bath like a jewel.

The judicious choice of the square feet to be fitted out, according to the openings, the orientation and the needs of the customers were the starting point of the work of this unit. A classic molding, accompanied by contemporary interventions, warm and contrasting colors, give this apartment the sophistication sought by customers, while remaining friendly.
