Only one thing was important here for the clients: to keep the essence and integrity of the grandfather house. A century-old house expanded not once, but twice.
Our mandate: to make it comfortable for a family of 5. The farmhouse style is the style the client loves, it’s perfect because you couldn’t get more farmhouse than a house on a farm. Everything had to be redone, but more importantly, everything had to be rethought.
We had to lift this magnificent antique to make a habitable and insulated basement. Removing the master bedroom from the main floor to enlarge the living room was an inevitable avenue. But what changed everything was taking the first floor bathroom and creating 3 rooms with its dimensions: kitchen pantry, family entrance and of course a shower room.
High-end, bright and durable materials were prioritized. Changing the original patio door and giving it the function of a main family entrance was going to make their everyday life much easier. A large brick floor on the ground allows the kids to move around without having to walk on the wood floor. Hooks and drawers are perfect for coats that are used every day, school bags and even all the mittens and accessories that 3 kids need. How does this house feel? When we went back for the shoot, a strong feeling of comfort, warmth and a craving for cocooning came over us! Do you feel it too?
