GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th edition
Discipline : Interior Design
Categories : Residence / Kitchen : Silver Certification
This kitchen was part of a grand scale remodeling project for this home located on a historic northern California ranch. The intent was to create a warm, inviting and open home for family and entertaining that capitalized on the stunning views of natural beauty that surrounds the property. The design was to reflect the clients’ sophisticated and modern personal style preferences and to incorporate and showcase their significant art collection.
Large window and door openings, skylights and soaring beamed and trussed ceilings were designed into all areas of the home. A unique glass and bronze structure was designed to cap the wall between the kitchen and family room, which served to define the kitchen space and section off the family room without sacrificing the natural light flooding the interiors of both spaces. More intimate and human scale proportions were achieved with wood timber beams, painted wall paneling and unique suspended lighting created with a bronze grid.
Mixes of textures and finishes were combined throughout the home. In the kitchen, a unique Brazilian white quartzite was used for the countertops and backsplash, designed alongside cabinets made from high-gloss fumed eucalyptus wood. Glass and bronze elements were mixed with polished and brushed stainless steel. The polished stainless steel plate rack was designed at the server and beverage bar, which was topped with a unique handmade brilliant blue fired terra cotta, and the table was created using the same fired terra cotta material, with an inlaid center plank of American walnut.
Covid and nearby wildfires provided unique challenges during the construction.
de Giulio was responsible for all aspects of the interior architecture for this entire home.
