Located in the Rosemont-la-petite-Patrie district of Montreal, this old duplex was the perfect opportunity for a transformation into a single-family residence.
Located in a heritage area, the facade was completely renovated, while respecting the typology of the old duplex. The existing layout of the building was also preserved offering an “L” shaped layout. This configuration offers an intimate courtyard enveloped by the built environment. In order to create a contrast with the red brick facade, the back is made of a white facade with large openings.
The new plan proposes an open-concept configuration that emphasis the backyard. The large openings conceal the barrier between the interior and exterior.
At the center of the residence is a majestic staircase. Its white envelope acts as an art piece, while the contrasting and warm wood core evokes the journey between all levels of the project.
