White box
This white box is a 1000 ㎡ villa residence, located in the suburb of Shanghai, a certain distance from the city center. Five family members, two dogs and a cat live in it.
Rooted in the concept of “approaching nature infinitely”, designer Lu Yingkun has made an all-round transformation from outside to inside for a growing and changing home, making it present a sincere, frank and unassuming modernist style.
“White” is a color that both the owner and the designer like. Here, it is not simply presented as a style, but implies the spiritual power of the place – purity, transcendence, vitality, peace and tranquility – when light passes through the medium.
During the renovation of the original building, the designer used the method of “one plus one minus” to streamline all the decorative lines to the extreme, presenting the extreme simplicity in black and white; Enlarge the window opening, correct the shape and increase the daylighting. After the overall excavation of the garden, the original windows in the basement were transformed into floor to ceiling doors, and a cantilevered balcony was added to the dining area on the first floor. After the overall transformation, the interaction between indoor and outdoor was strengthened, and people could easily go outdoors.
The transformed “white box” is simple and eye-catching, with excellent mobility indoors and outdoors. Large glass is used to remove the internal and external barriers, reshape the building and courtyard, so that residents can experience a space full of fun and surprise, and the building itself becomes a landscape.
