Tania Dupont, L. McComber and Construction OVI are undertaking a closely coordinated joint mission to restore the chic look of this 1976-built residence nestled between Mount Royal and downtown Montreal. The intervention includes the revitalization, as well as the partial reconfiguration, of the 6,420 square foot, three-story single-family residence. In addition to addressing roof leaks and an outdated kitchen, the team identified windows that needed to be replaced, the outdated railing on the interior staircase, as well as a series of improvements to the building and exterior spaces. With the balance of the composition of the front and rear elevations addressed, the interior intervention consists of optimizing the plan. To do so, L. McComber and Tania Dupont revise the circulation and visual connections between rooms. Adjacent to the formal entrance, the powder room was reduced in size to enlarge the entrance and the central hall. A new opening is created to connect the dining room to the living room and provide a more exhilarating spatial sensation and spectacular views of the city. This optimization is also evident in the reconfiguration of the kitchen, which is generously open to the rear garden, more convivial and modern. The use of noble materials, such as white oak, brass, and stone are paired with rounded corners, whitewashed walls, and solid wood shelving that pay homage to the past
From the exterior St. Mark’s stone staircase to the confines of the bedrooms and their expansive closets, from the spacious kitchen overlooking the garden to the dramatic interior spiral staircases, the distinctive elements of this home have been restored to preserve its welcoming personality. In the courtyard, the faded wooden deck is transformed to accommodate a pool on the side of the garden. A clever play of levels integrates the cedar security fences and creates a small outdoor living room and patio for outdoor dining. On either side of the courtyard and backing onto the natural stone wall, generous flowerbeds and an English garden adorn what has become a haven of peace in the mountains. It’s the dream!
