The Platform Collection
Flexible, modular, and versatile, the Platform Collection provides solutions to a multitude of urban furnishing and outdoor design needs. With this collection, Morelli once again seeks to nurture harmony and well-being through the creation of welcoming spaces with fun and eco-friendly furniture.
Modular and Congenial
If this collection was a human, we’d say that person was easy to get along with. It’s so friendly and adaptable. Start with the deck concept, nice and low to the ground, inviting you to a picnic on the lawn. All of its variations bring their own particularities, utilities, and experiences. Check out others—like the Rendezvous or Lounge Platforms—for new and different conceptions of outside seating, whether in urban, professional, or school settings.
An Environmental Solution
The Platform Collection is an environmentally sustainable conception of urban furnishing. We begin with aluminum structures, upon which are placed coverings made of plastic boarding recycled from post-consumer usage. But look beyond the materials to the thought process: a deep reflection on furniture itself, ephemeral products that are used, then dismantled or discarded when the event or the season ends. Does it have to be this way? This question fuelled our design process and Morelli emerged with a new vision of urban furniture, one that imbues it with a second life.
From temporary to transitory. Morelli developed an environmentally responsible procurement strategy. Towns and cities can purchase furniture for a single big event, then move it for permanent installation in a park or playground. The small city of Lachute did this with their acquisition of the Platform Collection.
LEGO-Like Versatility
Modularity is a key principle in the design of the Platform Collection, as the furnishings can be adapted to various contexts of usage and installation, as well as to fit within a specific project’s needs and constraints.
Think of it as working with LEGO blocks. The structure’s configuration has an infinite amount of possibilities. Each new Morelli collection or piece of furniture is another block to play with, as you build your very own landscape. In our industry, this approach is unique and innovative because the products can be applied to the specific design, service, and accommodation needs to be rendered to the users.
Now, with this in mind, think of how the Platform pieces can be customized by playing with dimensions features like backrests, tables, benches, bleachers, or a sun shade, all while staying within the same design strategy based on a shared platform.
We’re doing exactly what the big automakers do when they develop a common platform for two or three vehicles. This approach allows for faster adaptation and production within the product’s constraints customization needs. The strategy reduces the energy and effort of constantly finding solutions from scratch. That eases the strain on human resources and all the steps that darken our developmental carbon footprint.
