construction<\/p>\n<p>ESTHE\u0301TIQUE<\/p>\n<p>Le design du chalet nous rappelle le ni trop ni peu \u2013 soit la grande ligne directrice de l\u2019une des plus grandes philosophies sue\u0301doises, le [\u02c8l\u0251\u02d0\u02cc\u0261\u0254m] (prononcer lar-gom) dans laquelle re\u0300gnent la simplicite\u0301 et l\\\u2019e\u0301galite\u0301 au quotidien, ou\u0300 la nature est primordiale\u2026 Le lagom est un style de vie axe\u0301 sur l\u2019e\u0301quilibre, la modestie, le consentement et l\u2019absence de pre\u0301tention. Alors ici sans pre\u0301tention, le design du chalet, sa coquille peut e\u0302tre vu autant de manie\u0300re minimaliste que grandiose. Le ni trop ni peu. A\u0300 premie\u0300re vue, le Lago\u0308m semble bien ordinaire en fac\u0327ade avec sa petite fene\u0302tre a\u0300 la verticale situe\u0301e au rez-de- chausse\u0301e et une autre fene\u0302tre un peu plus imposante situe\u0301e a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301tage. Un design qui donne envie d\u2019en savoir plus, qui donne envie<\/p>\n<p>de de\u0301couvrir ce qui se cache derrie\u0300re cette \u00ab chapelle \u00bb au toit d\u2019aluminium d\u2019une hauteur de 26\u2019 perche\u0301 a\u0300 la cime des arbres. On est loin de s\u2019imaginer qu\u2019en re\u0301alite\u0301 le chalet posse\u0300de une superficie habitable de seulement 35m2. C\u2019est en s\u2019approchant que l\u2019on entrevoit par la fene\u0302tre verticale l\u2019a\u0302me des lieux, une vue sans de\u0301tour et transversale, de la salle de bain jusqu\u2019aux montagnes. C\u2019est en marchant tranquillement vers la porte de l\u2019entre\u0301e principale que l\u2019on y de\u0301couvre une galerie couverte qui vient se de\u0301poser sur une grande terrasse 3 niveaux, laissant place a\u0300 diffe\u0301rents angles de vue \u2013 a\u0300 diffe\u0301rents tableaux et images qui se succe\u0300dent en pleine nature. Une vue \u00ab above the sky \u00bb panoramique de 300\u2019 sur les montagnes et le fleuve Saint-Laurent. C\u2019est en de\u0301tournant le regard vers l\u2019e\u0301le\u0301vation arrie\u0300re que l\u2019on y de\u0301couvre un design a\u0300 couper le souffle, ce qui semblait tout petit en fac\u0327ade devient immense\u0301ment grand de part et<\/p>\n<p>d\u2019autre avec ses retombe\u0301es de chaque co\u0302te\u0301. On y de\u0301couvre une grande fenestration d\u2019aluminium et de verre trempe\u0301 sur 3 fac\u0327ades distinctes avec une hauteur de 20\u2019 \u2013 sur plongeant les montagnes et le fleuve Saint-Laurent. De son ton grisonnant, le ce\u0300dre du Lago\u0308m et sa terrasse viennent se marier dans la nature et perdurer dans le temps.<\/p>\n<p>FORME<\/p>\n<p>Le Lago\u0308m est l\u2019un des premiers chalets minimalistes en location touristique a\u0300 avoir e\u0301te\u0301 construit dans la Montagne le Maelstro\u0308m, une montagne de 36 millions pi.ca comprenant 88 lots forestiers d\u2019environ 4 hectares chacun, avec un zonage re\u0301cre\u0301o-forestier. Les intentions premie\u0300res du Lago\u0308m e\u0301taient d\u2019en faire le premier \u00ab mini-chalet \u00bb au Que\u0301bec de type scandinave et e\u0301cologique fonctionnant entie\u0300rement a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301nergie solaire et de ramener la beaute\u0301 de la nature au premier plan en donnant envie a\u0300 ses occupants d\u2019e\u0302tre en symbiose avec celle-ci.<\/p>\n<p>Gra\u0302ce a\u0300 son organisation spatiale, ses aires ouvertes tant exte\u0301rieure qu\u2019inte\u0301rieure, son plafond inte\u0301rieur de type cathe\u0301drale d\u2019une hauteur de 24\u2019 et son emplacement situe\u0301 a\u0300 550 me\u0300tres d\u2019altitude, perche\u0301 a\u0300 la cime des arbres, on a simplement envie de respirer et de refaire son plein d\\\u2019e\u0301nergie dans le ni trop ni peu selon l\u2019art de vivre sue\u0301dois. Le Lago\u0308m est un e\u0301cohe\u0301bergement de 35m2 construit entie\u0300rement en ce\u0300dre et pouvant accueillir 4 personnes. Gra\u0302ce a\u0300 sa vue panoramique, on y de\u0301couvre un de\u0301cor changeant a\u0300 toutes les saisons et des plus fe\u0301e\u0301riques.<\/p>\n<p>La beaute\u0301 de la simplicite\u0301; quoi de plus simple qu\u2019une forme triangulaire sur une forme rectangulaire nous rappelant les dessins de notre douce enfance. Le Lago\u0308m respecte ainsi son environnement, on dirait qu\u2019il a e\u0301te\u0301 simplement de\u0301pose\u0301 la\u0300, sur le bord d\u2019une falaise de granite. Le souffle nous est litte\u0301ralement coupe\u0301 en de\u0301couvrant le ni trop ni peu, la simplicite\u0301 des choix des mate\u0301riaux, du bois de ce\u0300dre qui perdure dans le temps, a\u0300 l\u2019effet de grandeur du haut de ses 35m2, de ses grandes baies vitre\u0301es, de sa mezzanine, de son majestueux plafond de bois qui traverse de l\u2019inte\u0301rieur a\u0300 l\u2019exte\u0301rieur et aboutit en terrasse couverte et se termine par deux retombe\u0301es, deux grands piliers se fondant entre montagnes et valle\u0301es.<\/p>\n<p>FONCTION<\/p>\n<p>Nonobstant les grands de\u0301fis que nous vivons actuellement, le monde d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui est confronte\u0301 a\u0300 une crise climatique imminente. Nous nous sommes donc demande\u0301: comment pouvons-nous faire a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301chelle humaine pour participer au changement tout en espe\u0301rant une profitabilite\u0301 de nos investissements? Investir dans l\u2019immobilier locatif court terme ayant des caracte\u0301ristiques durables. L\u2019effet des baies vitre\u0301es, du plafond cathe\u0301drale et de la grande terrasse exte\u0301rieure sur plongeant montagnes et valle\u0301es, ame\u0300ne son usager a\u0300 me\u0301diter et contempler.<\/p>\n<p>EXPERTISE<\/p>\n<p>M4 Architecture qui s\u2019est implique\u0301 dans ce projet au niveau de l\u2019e\u0301laboration des plans finaux oriente ses projets depuis 2002 vers l\u2019architecture de style \u00ab scandinave \u00bb avec des topographies en terrain montagneux, caracte\u0301ristiques du Lago\u0308m. Pour leur part, David Chamberland et Laury-Jane Mondoux Poirier, proprie\u0301taires, ne sont pas a\u0300 leur premier projet de construction re\u0301sidentiel. Tout juste revenus d\u2019une anne\u0301e en Colombie-Britannique pour y ba\u0302tir un projet re\u0301sidentiel et d\u2019un voyage a\u0300 Bali, les deux proprie\u0301taires ont des ide\u0301es de grandeur et pour mission de construire 4 chalets de type e\u0301cologique et scandinave au Que\u0301bec. Gra\u0302ce a\u0300 leur expe\u0301rience, ils re\u0301ussiront a\u0300 cre\u0301er le premier \u00ab mini-chalet \u00bb de type scandinave et e\u0301cologique au Que\u0301bec et a\u0300 surmonter plusieurs de\u0301fis et contraintes relie\u0301s a\u0300 sa construction sur un lot forestier de 4 hectares situe\u0301 dans une zone re\u0301cre\u0301otouristique. Le Lago\u0308m est aujourd\u2019hui l\u2019aine\u0301 du Hygge e\u0301tant situe\u0301 dans le me\u0302me secteur. Le Fika sera le petit dernier. C\u2019est le de\u0301but d\u2019une grande histoire\u2026<\/p>\n<p>CRE\u0301ATIVITE\u0301, ORIGINALITE\u0301 ET INNOVATION<\/p>\n<p>Lors de la construction du Lago\u0308m, la tendance au \u00ab mini-maison \u00bb, au \u00ab mini- chalet \u00bb et au \u00ab glamping \u00bb e\u0301tait encore tre\u0300s peu populaire et me\u0301connue du domaine de la construction au Que\u0301bec, aussi conside\u0301re\u0301e comme avant-gardiste aupre\u0300s des municipalite\u0301s. Le zonage du Lago\u0308m permettait entre autre la construction d\u2019un \u00ab relais rustique \u00bb selon certaines contraintes. Quand l\u2019on pense aux institutions financie\u0300res, aux inspecteurs et urbanistes des municipalite\u0301s, on y croyait pas du tout et on e\u0301tait loin de s\u2019imaginer a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301poque qu\u2019un ba\u0302timent de type \u00ab relais rustique \u00bb et pre\u0302t-a\u0300-camper comme le de\u0301signe la municipalite\u0301 du Lac-Beauport pourrait ressembler un jour au Lago\u0308m. C\u2019est pourquoi depuis sa construction en 2018, une centaine de chalets du me\u0302me type et de style a vu le jour partout au Que\u0301bec, le glamping et la toute nouvelle forme du \u00ab pre\u0302t-a\u0300-camper \u00bb. C\\\u2019est ainsi que les institutions financie\u0300res ont tranquillement mais surement de\u0301montre\u0301 une ouverture face au financement hypothe\u0301caire pour ce type de construction et que plusieurs municipalite\u0301s ont su ajuster leurs re\u0300glements de zonage pour laisser place a\u0300 la cre\u0301ation et l\u2019existence d\\\u2019un tel projet. Le Lago\u0308m fait aujourd\u2019hui la premie\u0300re page de l\u2019un des plus grandes sites de re\u0301servation au monde, Airbnb, et du site que\u0301be\u0301cois Wechalet. Dans les dernie\u0300res anne\u0301es, il a participe\u0301 a\u0300 plusieurs e\u0301missions de te\u0301le\u0301vision et a fait partie de la se\u0301rie Mini chalet \u2013 grandeur nature sur les ondes de CASA, a e\u0301te\u0301 cite\u0301 dans une centaine d\u2019articles et apparait me\u0302me dans l\u2019un des livres Cabin Tripping. David et Laury-Jane ont donc su surmonter plusieurs de\u0301fis lors de la cre\u0301ation du Lago\u0308m. Afin de respecter les normes et re\u0301fe\u0301rences de construction exige\u0301es par la municipalite\u0301 du Lac-Beauport, le futur ba\u0302timent devait e\u0302tre de type \u00ab relais rustique \u00bb ayant pour seul acce\u0300s un chemin forestier de gravel de 3km avec une e\u0301le\u0301vation totale de 300 me\u0300tres, que le ba\u0302timent n\u2019ait droit a\u0300 aucune fondation, que celui-ci ait une hauteur maximale de 8 me\u0300tres, que sa superficie habitable au sol respecte 20m2 \u2013 qu\u2019il n\u2019y ait aucun acce\u0300s a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301lectricite\u0301 conventionnelle, que son ba\u0302timent principal soit construit a\u0300 une distance de 10 me\u0300tres d\u2019un secteur de forte pente. Le plus grand de\u0301fi aura e\u0301te\u0301 de trouver la meilleure manie\u0300re d\u2019exploiter ce lot forestier et sa localisation a\u0300 550 me\u0300tres d\u2019altitude, la vue panoramique a\u0300 300 degre\u0301s sur les montagnes et sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent, de respecter la nature, de construire en fonction de l\u2019orientation nord-est du terrain, d\u2019exploiter le lever du soleil a\u0300 son maximum afin d\u2019optimiser ses panneaux solaires et de bien ancrer le ba\u0302timent afin de supporter des rafales de vent dans la montagne pouvant atteindre parfois les 150 km\/h. Le Lago\u0308m a donc e\u0301te\u0301 construit sur 16 sonotubes et sa le\u0301gendaire terrasse a e\u0301te\u0301 construite sur 24 techno pieux ca\u0302ble\u0301s et des barres transversales ont e\u0301te\u0301 installe\u0301es sous la galerie afin de bien l\u2019ancrer et e\u0301viter tout effet \u00ab parachute \u00bb lors de fort vent. E\u0301tant l\u2019une des essences de bois les plus re\u0301sistantes a\u0300 la pourriture et qui demande peu d\u2019entretien, le ce\u0300dre a e\u0301te\u0301 choisi ici dans ce projet pour perdurer dans le temps car il agit e\u0301galement comme re\u0301pulsif pour les espe\u0300ces envahissantes telles que les fourmis charpentie\u0300res re\u0301sidentes de la fore\u0302t bore\u0301ale entourant le ba\u0302timent. Loin de la pollution lumineuse, on peut y voir la voie lacte\u0301e, des aurores bore\u0301ales, de nouveaux paysages toujours plus e\u0301blouissants les uns que les autres, on peut avoir le sentiment d\u2019e\u0302tre \u00ab above the sky \u00bb au-dessus des nuages. So here without pretension, the design of the chalet : Its shell can be seen as minimalist as it is grandiose. Neither too much nor too little. At first glance, the Lago\u0308m looks quite ordinary in front with its small vertical window located on the first floor and another window a little more imposing located upstairs. A design that makes you want to know more, that makes you want to discover what is hidden behind this \\\u00a0\u00bbchapel\\\u00a0\u00bb with its 26\\\u2019 high aluminum roof perched in the treetops. You\\\u2019d never imagine that the chalet actually has a living area of only 35m2. As you approach, you get a glimpse in the soul of the place through the vertical window, a view that is unobstructed and transversal, from the bathroom to the mountains. Walking quietly towards the main entrance door, one discovers a covered gallery that opens onto a large three-level terrace, giving way to different angles of view \u2013 to different paintings and images that follow one another in the middle of nature. A 300\\\u2019 panoramic \\\u00a0\u00bbabove the sky\\\u00a0\u00bb view of the mountains and the St. Lawrence River. When you turn your gaze to the rear elevation, you discover a breathtaking design, what seemed small on the front side becomes immensely large on both sides with its fallout on each side. We discover a large window of aluminum and tempered glass on 3 distinct facades with a height of 20\\\u2019 \u2013 overlooking the mountains and the St. Lawrence River. The gray tone of the Lago\u0308m cedar and its terrace blend into the natural environment and endure over time.<\/p>\n<p>SHAPE<\/p>\n<p>The Lago\u0308m is one of the first minimalist tourist rental cabins to be built on the Maelstro\u0308m Mountain, a 36 million sq.ft. mountain comprising of 88 forest lots of approximately 4 hectares each, with recreational- forestry zoning. The original intent of the Lago\u0308m was to make it the first Scandinavian-style, eco-friendly \\\u00a0\u00bbmini-chalet\\\u00a0\u00bb in Quebec to be powered entirely by solar energy and to bring the beauty of nature to the forefront by making its occupants want to be in symbiosis with it.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its spatial organization, open areas both inside and outside, cathedral-like ceiling of 24\\\u2019 height and location at 550 meters above sea level, at the top of the trees, one simply wants to breathe and recharge one\\\u2019s batteries in the neither too much nor too little Swedish way of life. The Lago\u0308m is a 35m2 eco-lodge built entirely of cedar and can accommodate 4 people. Thanks to its panoramic view, we discover a decor that changes with the seasons; truly magical.<\/p>\n<p>The beauty of simplicity; what could be simpler than a triangular shape on a rectangular shape reminding us of the house drawings we made as little ones. The Lago\u0308m respects its environment; it looks like it was simply placed there, on the edge of a granite cliff. Your breath is literally taken away as you discover the neither too much nor too little, the simplicity of the choice of materials, from the cedar wood that endures in time, to the effect of grandeur from the top of its 35m2, its large windows, its mezzanine, its majestic wooden ceiling that crosses from the inside to the outside and ends in a covered terrace, with two fallouts, two large pillars that melt between mountains and valleys.<\/p>\n<p>FUNCTION<\/p>\n<p>Despite the great challenges we are currently experiencing, the world today is facing a looming climate crisis. So we asked ourselves: what can we do on a human scale to be part of the change we want to see while expecting profitability from our investments? We chose to invest in short-term rental real estate with sustainable characteristics.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the dark side of short-term rentals such as the allocation of long-term rental housing availability, the demand for short-term rentals is growing month after month. People are realizing that weekends away from home and weeks at the cabin is now an accessible product. The current stress in our society is increasing which makes the desire to get away from it all, to relax, take care of ourselves, spend time away from home in an environment that makes us feel good, a viable option. The Lago\u0308m has been designed to provide a simple experience and to finally \\\u00a0\u00bbtake a break\\\u00a0\u00bb and feel the power and benefits of \\\u00a0\u00bbreconnecting\\\u00a0\u00bb with nature. With its 35 m2 of living space and its simplistic and uncluttered design, it invites the user to live in the present moment and reduce energy consumption. We realize that it is possible to live and occupy our daily activities simply. Each of the space\\\u2019s interior has been calculated to be as ergonomic and useful as possible for its user. The effect of the bay windows, the cathedral ceiling and the large exterior terrace overlooking the mountains and valleys, compels the user to meditate and contemplate.<\/p>\n<p>EXPERTISE<\/p>\n<p>M4 Architecture, which was involved in this project at the final plan\\\u2019s step, has been orienting its projects since 2002 towards \\\u00a0\u00bbScandinavian\\\u00a0\u00bb style architecture with mountainous terrain, characteristic of Lago\u0308m. For their part, David Chamberland and Laury-Jane Mondoux Poirier, owners, are not at their first residential construction project. Having just returned from a year in British Columbia to build a residential project and from a trip to Bali, the two owners had big ideas and a mission to build 4 ecological and Scandinavian type cabins in Quebec. Thanks to their experience, they succeeded in creating the latter\\\u2019s first \\\u00a0\u00bbmini-chalet\\\u00a0\u00bb in Quebec and<\/p>\n<p>overcame several challenges and the constraints related of building on a 4 hectare forest lot located in a recreational and touristic area. The family is growing, the Lago\u0308m being the oldest, then comes the Hygge, both them located on the same mountain. The Fika will be the youngest. This is the beginning of a great story\u2026<\/p>\n<p>CREATIVITY, ORIGINALITY AND INNOVATION<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the construction of the Lago\u0308m, the trend towards \\\u00a0\u00bbmini- homes\\\u00a0\u00bb, \\\u00a0\u00bbmini-chalets\\\u00a0\u00bb and \\\u00a0\u00bbglamping\\\u00a0\u00bb was still very unpopular and unknown in the construction field in Quebec. It was also considered avant-garde by municipalities. The Lago\u0308m\\\u2019s zoning allowed, among other things, the construction of a \\\u00a0\u00bbrustic shelter\\\u00a0\u00bb within certain constraints. The financial institutions, the inspectors and the urban planners of the municipalities didn\\\u2019t believe in it at all and they were far from imagining at the time that a \\\u00a0\u00bbrustic relay\\\u00a0\u00bb and ready-to-camp building as designated by the municipality of Lac-Beauport could one day looks like the Lago\u0308m. That\\\u2019s why since its construction in 2018, a hundred or so cabins of the same type and style have sprung up all over Quebec and glamping has become the newest form of \\\u00a0\u00bbready-to-camp\\\u00a0\u00bb. Financial institutions have slowly but surely shown an openness to mortgage financing for this type of construction and many municipalities have adjusted their zoning by-laws to allow for the creation and existence of such a project. The Lago\u0308m is now on the front page of one of the largest reservation sites in the world, Airbnb, and the Quebec site Wechalet. In the last few years, it has been featured on several television shows and was part of the Mini chalet \u2013 grandeur nature series on CASA, has been quoted in a hundred articles and even appears in one of the Cabin Tripping books. David and Laury-Jane overcame many challenges creating the Lago\u0308m. In order to respect the norms and references of construction required by the municipality of Lac-Beauport, the future building had to be of the \\\u00a0\u00bbrustic relay\\\u00a0\u00bb type having for only access a 3km gravel forest road with a total elevation of 300 meters, that the building had no foundation, that it had a maximum height of 8 meters, that its habitable surface on the ground respected 20m2 \u2013 that there was no access to conventional electricity, that its main building was built at a distance of 10 meters from a sector of steep slope. The biggest challenge was to find the best way to exploit this forest\\\u2019s lot and its location at 550 meters above sea level, the 300 degree panoramic view of the mountains and the St. Lawrence River, to respect nature, to build according to the northeast orientation of the land, to exploit the sunrise to its maximum in order to optimize its solar panels and to anchor the building well in order to withstand wind gusts in the mountains that can sometimes reach 150 km\/h. The Lago\u0308m was therefore built on 16 sonotubes and its legendary terrace was built on 24 techno piles and cross bars were installed under the gallery to anchor it well and avoid any \\\u00a0\u00bbparachute\\\u00a0\u00bb effect during strong winds. The solar panels were also wired. The cedar used for the exterior cladding and for the exterior terrace is not a new material but is more commonly used in Scandinavian countries or for buildings located by the sea for example. As one of the most rot-resistant and low- maintenance wood species, cedar was chosen here in this project to last over time because it also acts as a repellent to invasive species such as carpenter ants resident in the boreal forest surrounding the building. It also features aluminum siding for the roof and windows with tempered glass thermos to resist the elements!<\/p>\n<p>TECHNOLOGY<\/p>\n<p>The Lago\u0308m is the pioneer of the ecological \\\u00a0\u00bbScandinavian mini-chalet\\\u00a0\u00bb category in Quebec \u2013 100% autonomous and self-sufficient \u2013 and remains a unique project to this day. It is a blend of excess in simplicity, of neither too much nor too little. Since 2018, the Lago\u0308m has maintained a rental rate of 98% and attracts travelers from all over the world to live the latter\\\u2019s experience, something never seen before in the recreational-tourism field. Nous nous sommes donc demande\u0301: comment pouvons-nous faire a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301chelle humaine pour participer au changement tout en espe\u0301rant une profitabilite\u0301 de nos investissements? Investir dans l\u2019immobilier locatif court terme ayant des caracte\u0301ristiques durables. C\u2019est le de\u0301but d\u2019une grande histoire\u2026<\/p>\n<p>CRE\u0301ATIVITE\u0301, ORIGINALITE\u0301 ET INNOVATION<\/p>\n<p>Lors de la construction du Lago\u0308m, la tendance au \u00ab mini-maison \u00bb, au \u00ab mini- chalet \u00bb et au \u00ab glamping \u00bb e\u0301tait encore tre\u0300s peu populaire et me\u0301connue du domaine de la construction au Que\u0301bec, aussi conside\u0301re\u0301e comme avant-gardiste aupre\u0300s des municipalite\u0301s. Le zonage du Lago\u0308m permettait entre autre la construction d\u2019un \u00ab relais rustique \u00bb selon certaines contraintes. Quand l\u2019on pense aux institutions financie\u0300res, aux inspecteurs et urbanistes des municipalite\u0301s, on y croyait pas du tout et on e\u0301tait loin de s\u2019imaginer a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301poque qu\u2019un ba\u0302timent de type \u00ab relais rustique \u00bb et pre\u0302t-a\u0300-camper comme le de\u0301signe la municipalite\u0301 du Lac-Beauport pourrait ressembler un jour au Lago\u0308m. C\u2019est pourquoi depuis sa construction en 2018, une centaine de chalets du me\u0302me type et de style a vu le jour partout au Que\u0301bec, le glamping et la toute nouvelle forme du \u00ab pre\u0302t-a\u0300-camper \u00bb. Afin de respecter les normes et re\u0301fe\u0301rences de construction exige\u0301es par la municipalite\u0301 du Lac-Beauport, le futur ba\u0302timent devait e\u0302tre de type \u00ab relais rustique \u00bb ayant pour seul acce\u0300s un chemin forestier de gravel de 3km avec une e\u0301le\u0301vation totale de 300 me\u0300tres, que le ba\u0302timent n\u2019ait droit a\u0300 aucune fondation, que celui-ci ait une hauteur maximale de 8 me\u0300tres, que sa superficie habitable au sol respecte 20m2 \u2013 qu\u2019il n\u2019y ait aucun acce\u0300s a\u0300 l\u2019e\u0301lectricite\u0301 conventionnelle, que son ba\u0302timent principal soit construit a\u0300 une distance de 10 me\u0300tres d\u2019un secteur de forte pente. Le plus grand de\u0301fi aura e\u0301te\u0301 de trouver la meilleure manie\u0300re d\u2019exploiter ce lot forestier et sa localisation a\u0300 550 me\u0300tres d\u2019altitude, la vue panoramique a\u0300 300 degre\u0301s sur les montagnes et sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent, de respecter la nature, de construire en fonction de l\u2019orientation nord-est du terrain, d\u2019exploiter le lever du soleil a\u0300 son maximum afin d\u2019optimiser ses panneaux solaires et de bien ancrer le ba\u0302timent afin de supporter des rafales de vent dans la montagne pouvant atteindre parfois les 150 km\/h. So here without pretension, the design of the chalet : Its shell can be seen as minimalist as it is grandiose. Neither too much nor too little. At first glance, the Lago\u0308m looks quite ordinary in front with its small vertical window located on the first floor and another window a little more imposing located upstairs. A design that makes you want to know more, that makes you want to discover what is hidden behind this \\\u00a0\u00bbchapel\\\u00a0\u00bb with its 26\\\u2019 high aluminum roof perched in the treetops. You\\\u2019d never imagine that the chalet actually has a living area of only 35m2. As you approach, you get a glimpse in the soul of the place through the vertical window, a view that is unobstructed and transversal, from the bathroom to the mountains. Walking quietly towards the main entrance door, one discovers a covered gallery that opens onto a large three-level terrace, giving way to different angles of view \u2013 to different paintings and images that follow one another in the middle of nature. A 300\\\u2019 panoramic \\\u00a0\u00bbabove the sky\\\u00a0\u00bb view of the mountains and the St. Lawrence River. When you turn your gaze to the rear elevation, you discover a breathtaking design, what seemed small on the front side becomes immensely large on both sides with its fallout on each side. We discover a large window of aluminum and tempered glass on 3 distinct facades with a height of 20\\\u2019 \u2013 overlooking the mountains and the St. Lawrence River. The gray tone of the Lago\u0308m cedar and its terrace blend into the natural environment and endure over time.<\/p>\n<p>SHAPE<\/p>\n<p>The Lago\u0308m is one of the first minimalist tourist rental cabins to be built on the Maelstro\u0308m Mountain, a 36 million sq.ft. mountain comprising of 88 forest lots of approximately 4 hectares each, with recreational- forestry zoning. The original intent of the Lago\u0308m was to make it the first Scandinavian-style, eco-friendly \\\u00a0\u00bbmini-chalet\\\u00a0\u00bb in Quebec to be powered entirely by solar energy and to bring the beauty of nature to the forefront by making its occupants want to be in symbiosis with it.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its spatial organization, open areas both inside and outside, cathedral-like ceiling of 24\\\u2019 height and location at 550 meters above sea level, at the top of the trees, one simply wants to breathe and recharge one\\\u2019s batteries in the neither too much nor too little Swedish way of life. The Lago\u0308m is a 35m2 eco-lodge built entirely of cedar and can accommodate 4 people. Thanks to its panoramic view, we discover a decor that changes with the seasons; truly magical.<\/p>\n<p>The beauty of simplicity; what could be simpler than a triangular shape on a rectangular shape reminding us of the house drawings we made as little ones. The Lago\u0308m respects its environment; it looks like it was simply placed there, on the edge of a granite cliff. Your breath is literally taken away as you discover the neither too much nor too little, the simplicity of the choice of materials, from the cedar wood that endures in time, to the effect of grandeur from the top of its 35m2, its large windows, its mezzanine, its majestic wooden ceiling that crosses from the inside to the outside and ends in a covered terrace, with two fallouts, two large pillars that melt between mountains and valleys.<\/p>\n<p>FUNCTION<\/p>\n<p>Despite the great challenges we are currently experiencing, the world today is facing a looming climate crisis. So we asked ourselves: what can we do on a human scale to be part of the change we want to see while expecting profitability from our investments? We chose to invest in short-term rental real estate with sustainable characteristics.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the dark side of short-term rentals such as the allocation of long-term rental housing availability, the demand for short-term rentals is growing month after month. People are realizing that weekends away from home and weeks at the cabin is now an accessible product. The current stress in our society is increasing which makes the desire to get away from it all, to relax, take care of ourselves, spend time away from home in an environment that makes us feel good, a viable option. The Lago\u0308m has been designed to provide a simple experience and to finally \\\u00a0\u00bbtake a break\\\u00a0\u00bb and feel the power and benefits of \\\u00a0\u00bbreconnecting\\\u00a0\u00bb with nature. With its 35 m2 of living space and its simplistic and uncluttered design, it invites the user to live in the present moment and reduce energy consumption. We realize that it is possible to live and occupy our daily activities simply. Each of the space\\\u2019s interior has been calculated to be as ergonomic and useful as possible for its user. The effect of the bay windows, the cathedral ceiling and the large exterior terrace overlooking the mountains and valleys, compels the user to meditate and contemplate.<\/p>\n<p>EXPERTISE<\/p>\n<p>M4 Architecture, which was involved in this project at the final plan\\\u2019s step, has been orienting its projects since 2002 towards \\\u00a0\u00bbScandinavian\\\u00a0\u00bb style architecture with mountainous terrain, characteristic of Lago\u0308m. For their part, David Chamberland and Laury-Jane Mondoux Poirier, owners, are not at their first residential construction project. Having just returned from a year in British Columbia to build a residential project and from a trip to Bali, the two owners had big ideas and a mission to build 4 ecological and Scandinavian type cabins in Quebec. Thanks to their experience, they succeeded in creating the latter\\\u2019s first \\\u00a0\u00bbmini-chalet\\\u00a0\u00bb in Quebec and<\/p>\n<p>overcame several challenges and the constraints related of building on a 4 hectare forest lot located in a recreational and touristic area. The family is growing, the Lago\u0308m being the oldest, then comes the Hygge, both them located on the same mountain. The Fika will be the youngest. This is the beginning of a great story\u2026<\/p>\n<p>CREATIVITY, ORIGINALITY AND INNOVATION<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the construction of the Lago\u0308m, the trend towards \\\u00a0\u00bbmini- homes\\\u00a0\u00bb, \\\u00a0\u00bbmini-chalets\\\u00a0\u00bb and \\\u00a0\u00bbglamping\\\u00a0\u00bb was still very unpopular and unknown in the construction field in Quebec. It was also considered avant-garde by municipalities. The Lago\u0308m\\\u2019s zoning allowed, among other things, the construction of a \\\u00a0\u00bbrustic shelter\\\u00a0\u00bb within certain constraints. The financial institutions, the inspectors and the urban planners of the municipalities didn\\\u2019t believe in it at all and they were far from imagining at the time that a \\\u00a0\u00bbrustic relay\\\u00a0\u00bb and ready-to-camp building as designated by the municipality of Lac-Beauport could one day looks like the Lago\u0308m. That\\\u2019s why since its construction in 2018, a hundred or so cabins of the same type and style have sprung up all over Quebec and glamping has become the newest form of \\\u00a0\u00bbready-to-camp\\\u00a0\u00bb. Financial institutions have slowly but surely shown an openness to mortgage financing for this type of construction and many municipalities have adjusted their zoning by-laws to allow for the creation and existence of such a project. The Lago\u0308m is now on the front page of one of the largest reservation sites in the world, Airbnb, and the Quebec site Wechalet. In the last few years, it has been featured on several television shows and was part of the Mini chalet \u2013 grandeur nature series on CASA, has been quoted in a hundred articles and even appears in one of the Cabin Tripping books. David and Laury-Jane overcame many challenges creating the Lago\u0308m. In order to respect the norms and references of construction required by the municipality of Lac-Beauport, the future building had to be of the \\\u00a0\u00bbrustic relay\\\u00a0\u00bb type having for only access a 3km gravel forest road with a total elevation of 300 meters, that the building had no foundation, that it had a maximum height of 8 meters, that its habitable surface on the ground respected 20m2 \u2013 that there was no access to conventional electricity, that its main building was built at a distance of 10 meters from a sector of steep slope. The biggest challenge was to find the best way to exploit this forest\\\u2019s lot and its location at 550 meters above sea level, the 300 degree panoramic view of the mountains and the St. Lawrence River, to respect nature, to build according to the northeast orientation of the land, to exploit the sunrise to its maximum in order to optimize its solar panels and to anchor the building well in order to withstand wind gusts in the mountains that can sometimes reach 150 km\/h. The Lago\u0308m was therefore built on 16 sonotubes and its legendary terrace was built on 24 techno piles and cross bars were installed under the gallery to anchor it well and avoid any \\\u00a0\u00bbparachute\\\u00a0\u00bb effect during strong winds. The solar panels were also wired. The cedar used for the exterior cladding and for the exterior terrace is not a new material but is more commonly used in Scandinavian countries or for buildings located by the sea for example. As one of the most rot-resistant and low- maintenance wood species, cedar was chosen here in this project to last over time because it also acts as a repellent to invasive species such as carpenter ants resident in the boreal forest surrounding the building. It also features aluminum siding for the roof and windows with tempered glass thermos to resist the elements!<\/p>\n<p>TECHNOLOGY<\/p>\n<p>The Lago\u0308m is the pioneer of the ecological \\\u00a0\u00bbScandinavian mini-chalet\\\u00a0\u00bb category in Quebec \u2013 100% autonomous and self-sufficient \u2013 and remains a unique project to this day. It is a blend of excess in simplicity, of neither too much nor too little. Since 2018, the Lago\u0308m has maintained a rental rate of 98% and attracts travelers from all over the world to live the latter\\\u2019s experience, something never seen before in the recreational-tourism field.
