The morphology of the place – the slope with a 6m height difference from the top to the bottom, led to the decision of creating the house with humble, stone stable-like appearance from the street side that discreetly fits into the neighborhood, while developing into the prominent, two-level construction from the garden.<br \/>\nThorough contextual and materiality research was done on how to incorporate dwelling in a contemporary manner into the surrounding. A starting point of creative departure was the industrial feel of a traditional stone stable, characteristic for the Peloponnese rural areas, with its low, long, and tiled shed roof appearance.<br \/>\nEntrance level is approached by ramp and represents communal space of the dwelling. It relates through the large openings to the outdoor observation platform, suitable for stars-gazing and experiencing distant view of the sea. Additional openings were created on the roof, South-West, and North-East side of the building to improve natural light and ventilation. Communication with the garden is established by cantilevered, concrete staircase.<br \/>\nAt the lower level, slab\u2019s perforations in the interior corridor create cave-like atmosphere of private area. Bedrooms and guest suite, along with bathrooms suggest the monastic feel of the space, thanks to the basic, bespoke furnishing. Direct garden access from these places is generated with two courtyards that have the role of contemplation places.<br \/>\nEnvironmental and local economy benefits have been accomplished by specifying craftsmen and natural materials within a 100-mile radius of the construction site. Reclaimed stone, applied on the elevations and at the entrance level interior space, was sourced from the nearby storage and supplemented with a new one from a local quarry. Washed wood shutters were handmade in recycled wood and black metal frame. Cement mortar in two shades was created on site to cover floor surfaces along with custom-made plywood furniture, whereas white oil treated OSB was used for the rest of the built-in equipment. C\u2019est ce que recherchaient les propri\u00e9taires, un jeune couple amoureux de la nature avec leurs trois enfants.<\/p>\n<p>C\u00f4t\u00e9 rue, la maison est semblable aux vieilles \u00e9curies en pierre (caract\u00e9ristiques des zones rurales du P\u00e9loponn\u00e8se) et s\u2019int\u00e8gre discr\u00e8tement dans le quartier, tout en se d\u00e9veloppant en une maison moderne \u00e0 deux niveaux c\u00f4t\u00e9 jardin.<br \/>\nDes recherches approfondies sur le contexte et la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9es sur la mani\u00e8re d\u2019int\u00e9grer l\u2019habitation de fa\u00e7on contemporaine dans l\u2019environnement.<br \/>\nLe niveau de l\u2019entr\u00e9e est approch\u00e9 par une rampe et repr\u00e9sente l\u2019espace commun de l\u2019habitation. Il est reli\u00e9 par les grandes ouvertures \u00e0 la plateforme d\u2019observation ext\u00e9rieure, propice \u00e0 l\u2019observation des \u00e9toiles et \u00e0 une vue lointaine sur la mer.<br \/>\nDes ouvertures suppl\u00e9mentaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9es sur le toit, c\u00f4t\u00e9 sud-ouest et nord-est du b\u00e2timent pour am\u00e9liorer la lumi\u00e8re naturelle et la ventilation. La communication avec le jardin est \u00e9tablie par un escalier en porte-\u00e0-faux en b\u00e9ton. Au niveau inf\u00e9rieur, les perforations de la dalle dans le couloir int\u00e9rieur cr\u00e9ent une atmosph\u00e8re de caverne. Les chambres et la suite pour les invit\u00e9s, ainsi que les salles de bains, sugg\u00e8rent l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re monastique de l\u2019espace, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019ameublement basique et sur mesure.<br \/>\nL\u2019acc\u00e8s direct au jardin depuis ces lieux est g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 avec deux cours qui ont le r\u00f4le de lieux de contemplation. La pierre, r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9e et appliqu\u00e9e sur les \u00e9l\u00e9vations et au niveau de l\u2019espace int\u00e9rieur est compl\u00e9t\u00e9e par une nouvelle provenant d\u2019une carri\u00e8re locale. Les volets en bois recycl\u00e9 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 fabriqu\u00e9s \u00e0 la main en bois et coupl\u00e9s avec un cadre en m\u00e9tal noir.<br \/>\nDu mortier en deux teintes a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 sur place pour couvrir les surfaces de sol ainsi que les meubles en contreplaqu\u00e9 sur mesure, tandis que l\u2019OSB trait\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019huile blanche a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 pour le reste de l\u2019\u00e9quipement int\u00e9gr\u00e9. Il est important de souligner que l\u2019ensemble de 141 m2 d\u2019espace habitable, sur mesure, a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit avec les moyens restreints, sans compromettre la proposition architecturale initiale. <\/p>\n","en":"<p>A plot situated in a remote, ordinary village of Kalamia, with olive groves surrounding and unobstructed view to the Gulf of Corinth, is a setting for retreat from demanding urban life, whose occupant is a nature-loving young couple with their three children. The morphology of the place \u2013 the slope with a 6m height difference from the top to the bottom, led to the decision of creating the house with humble, stone stable-like appearance from the street side that discreetly fits into the neighborhood, while developing into the prominent, two-level construction from the garden.<br \/>\nThorough contextual and materiality research was done on how to incorporate dwelling in a contemporary manner into the surrounding. A starting point of creative departure was the industrial feel of a traditional stone stable, characteristic for the Peloponnese rural areas, with its low, long, and tiled shed roof appearance.<br \/>\nEntrance level is approached by ramp and represents communal space of the dwelling. It relates through the large openings to the outdoor observation platform, suitable for stars-gazing and experiencing distant view of the sea. Additional openings were created on the roof, South-West, and North-East side of the building to improve natural light and ventilation. Communication with the garden is established by cantilevered, concrete staircase.<br \/>\nAt the lower level, slab\u2019s perforations in the interior corridor create cave-like atmosphere of private area. Bedrooms and guest suite, along with bathrooms suggest the monastic feel of the space, thanks to the basic, bespoke furnishing. Direct garden access from these places is generated with two courtyards that have the role of contemplation places.<br \/>\nEnvironmental and local economy benefits have been accomplished by specifying craftsmen and natural materials within a 100-mile radius of the construction site. Reclaimed stone, applied on the elevations and at the entrance level interior space, was sourced from the nearby storage and supplemented with a new one from a local quarry. Washed wood shutters were handmade in recycled wood and black metal frame. Cement mortar in two shades was created on site to cover floor surfaces along with custom-made plywood furniture, whereas white oil treated OSB was used for the rest of the built-in equipment.
