Comment densifier de mani\u00e8re douce en ajoutant de nouveau logement, tout en conservant l\u2019authenticit\u00e9 du design d\u2019origine et du paysage urbain de la rue et de la ruelle. Comment y parvenir dans un dialogue entre l\u2019existant et le nouveau, sans que l\u2019un parle plus fort que l\u2019autre, en conservant la modestie qui forme un quartier de la ville.<br \/>\nLa r\u00e9ponse pour le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 de d\u00e9poser un voile blanc sur le massif de brique rouge existant. Le nouveau volume contraste par sa l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9, la mati\u00e8re et sa couleur. L\u2019ajout surprend le passant attentif par sa non-pr\u00e9sence\/ son absence, comme si le voile encadrait le vide, le creux pr\u00e9existant entre les deux voisins de trois \u00e9tages. La simplicit\u00e9 du nouveau volume cr\u00e9e un fond pour la figure\/ forme du b\u00e2timent existant conserv\u00e9 et mis en valeur. Une mezzanine est int\u00e9gr\u00e9e dans le nouveau volume par l\u2019inclinaison de la toiture. \u00c0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re, la forme typique en L des b\u00e2timents du Plateau Mont-Royal est reconstitu\u00e9e et l\u2019esth\u00e9tique revu. Cette nouvelle aile accueille les chambres des diff\u00e9rents logements. Vu l\u2019orientation solaire, la cour est dans l\u2019ombre une grande partie de la journ\u00e9e. La brique blanche est donc utilis\u00e9e afin de cr\u00e9er un second jour dans la cour. La toiture est occup\u00e9e par une terrasse au toit pour le nouveau logement afin de profiter des belles journ\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 et de la vue vers le Mont-Royal. Les ouvertures de la nouvelle fa\u00e7ade arri\u00e8re et la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 s\u2019affirme clairement dans ruelle tout en enrichissant un paysage urbain \u00e0 red\u00e9couvrir.  <\/p>\n","en":"<p>UNDERLINED THE VOID<br \/>\nA century-old duplex in Montreal's Mile-end, abandoned for several years, has been extended with a large rooftop apartment and a backyard bedroom wing on each floor.<br \/>\nThe project aims to answer the delicate and sensitive question of \u201carchitectural intervention on modest heritage. \". How to densify in a gentle way by adding new housing, while retaining the authenticity of the original design and the urban landscape of the street and the lane. How to achieve this in a dialogue between the existing and the new, without one speaking louder than the other, while maintaining the modesty that forms a district of the city.<br \/>\nThe answer for the project was to lay a white veil on the existing red brick massif. The new volume contrasts with its lightness, material and color. The addition surprises the attentive passerby with its non-presence\/absence, as if the veil framed the void, the pre-existing hollow between the two neighbors of three floors. The simplicity of the new volume creates a backdrop for the figure\/form of the existing building that is retained and enhanced. A mezzanine is integrated into the new volume by the slope of the roof. At the rear, the typical L-shape of the buildings of the Plateau Mont-Royal is reconstituted and the aesthetics reviewed. This new wing accommodates the bedrooms of the various accommodations. Given the solar orientation, the courtyard is in the shade for most of the day. The white brick is therefore used to create a second day in the courtyard. The roof is occupied by a roof terrace for the new accommodation in order to take advantage of the beautiful summer days and the view of Mount Royal.
