sur un terrain de 62 hectares entre une for\u00eat ancestrale et la Mer de Chine m\u00e9ridionale, le long des c\u00f4tes de Desaru \u00e0 Johor, en Malaisie, le One &#038; Only Desaru Coast est un complexe unique qui conjugue de mani\u00e8re coh\u00e9rente \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes existants et cultures locales.<br \/>\nLa for\u00eat de Desaru poss\u00e8de un \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me particulier en raison de la proximit\u00e9 de la Mer et de ses  moussons (octobre-f\u00e9vrier). Cette conjoncture combin\u00e9e \u00e0 des conditions p\u00e9dologiques difficiles a men\u00e9 \u00e0 une conception sp\u00e9cifique du site o\u00f9 la compr\u00e9hension approfondie de la for\u00eat et de son contexte a donn\u00e9 le ton \u00e0 l&#39;ensemble du projet. Ainsi, le concept de la station s\u2019inspire de la g\u00e9om\u00e9trie cach\u00e9e des strates foresti\u00e8res, des interconnections entre les arbres, et des donn\u00e9es m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques. Le r\u00e9sultat est une station accueillant une succession d\u2019aires \u00e0 vocations diverses, autant actives que passives.<br \/>\nLa for\u00eat est compos\u00e9e de trois couches distinctes pr\u00e9sentant diff\u00e9rentes typologies d&#39;esp\u00e8ces et par cons\u00e9quent d\u2019\u00e9co-activit\u00e9s. La premi\u00e8re couche, littorale, est compos\u00e9e d&#39;arbres multi-troncs aux grandes feuilles succulentes qui agissent comme pare-vent et prot\u00e8gent les parties int\u00e9rieures des terres L&#39;impact du climat est bien visible dans cette ligne c\u00f4ti\u00e8re d&#39;arbres sculpt\u00e9s. La deuxi\u00e8me couche, interm\u00e9diaire, est plus dense et comporte un sous-bois favorable \u00e0 la vie animale. La troisi\u00e8me couche, profonde et constitu\u00e9e d&#39;esp\u00e8ces d&#39;arbres \u00e9mergentes et sup\u00e9rieures, est la partie la plus stable de la for\u00eat. Les zones essentielles de la station sont situ\u00e9es dans cette troisi\u00e8me couche car elles y sont prot\u00e9g\u00e9es de la mousson. Elles sont reli\u00e9es au littoral via des zones d\u00e9gag\u00e9es qui se sont form\u00e9es naturellement au fil du temps.<br \/>\nEn raison du type de sols, il \u00e9tait difficile de planter de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces. Une s\u00e9lection v\u00e9g\u00e9tale a donc \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e en observant et reproduisant les esp\u00e8ces performantes de la for\u00eat avoisinante. La majorit\u00e9 des arbres de la station a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9serv\u00e9e, certains ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transplant\u00e9s, et les rares arbres qui ont d\u00fb \u00eatre abattus ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9s dans la station pour construire l&#39;aire de  jeux pour enfants, cr\u00e9er des \u0153uvres d&#39;art ou stabiliser le sol.<br \/>\nCulture locale et principes de permaculture sont utilis\u00e9s pour pr\u00e9venir toute blessure de la faune lors des activit\u00e9s quotidiennes de la station. Il s&#39;est aussi av\u00e9r\u00e9 n\u00e9cessaire d&#39;avoir une bonne connaissance des esp\u00e8ces pr\u00e9sentes et de leurs habitudes de vie pour \u00e9tablir des param\u00e8tres naturels pour les contr\u00f4ler.<br \/>\nAinsi, au lieu d&#39;utiliser des cl\u00f4tures \u00e9lectriques pour emp\u00eacher les macaques de s&#39;aventurer sur les routes, on a cr\u00e9\u00e9 des barri\u00e8res naturelles compos\u00e9es de plantes redout\u00e9es par les primates. Les animaux de plus grande taille, comme la panth\u00e8re c\u00f4ti\u00e8re et le tapir, utilisent la couche interm\u00e9diaire de la for\u00eat pour transiter : leurs passages pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9s et prot\u00e9g\u00e9s. Des plantes \u00e9pineuses existantes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 multipli\u00e9es pour cr\u00e9er des barri\u00e8res naturelles autour de ces  passages lorsqu\u2019ils \u00e9taient proches des activit\u00e9s humaines.<br \/>\nLa station a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue en utilisant la nature comme guide principal. L&#39;id\u00e9e sous-jacente de l&#39;ensemble du projet est que la nature et l&#39;environnement b\u00e2ti peuvent coexister en harmonie, m\u00eame dans le monde d\u2019aujourd&#39;hui qui souvent nous force \u00e0 prioriser un aspect donn\u00e9 par rapport \u00e0 l\u2019autre. De nombreuses le\u00e7ons peuvent \u00eatre tir\u00e9es de la nature et, si l&#39;on se laisse guider par elle, les humains et la nature pourront continuer \u00e0 coexiste.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>Nested on a 153 acre piece of land between an ancient forest and the South China Sea along the shores of Desaru in Johor, Malaysia, One &#038; Only Desaru Coast is a unique resort that cohesively merges existing ecosystems and local cultures. The Desaru forest possesses a distinctive ecosystem due to its proximity to the South China Sea and to the monsoon season (October-February). This scenario, combined to poor soil conditions led to a site-specific design where a thorough understanding of the forest and its context set the tone for the entire project. Thus, the design of the resort was inspired by the hidden geometry of the overlapping forest layers and tree grids and the weather of the area.  The result is a resort that welcomes both active and passive uses.<br \/>\nThe forest is composed of three distinct layers, each of them having different typologies of plant species and consequently different eco-activities. The first layer (shoreline areas) is usually comprised of multi-branch trees with large succulent leaves acting as wind-barriers to protect the inner parts of the forest from the monsoon. The impact of the weather can be seen in the sculpted tree line along the shores. The second or middle layer of the forest is denser and is composed of intermediate species creating an underlayer of vegetation favorable to animal life. The third layer of the forest or the inner-land is constituted of emergent and intermediate tree species making it the most stable part of the forest. The main areas of the resort are located within this third layer where the natural landscape is protected from the monsoon. The resort is connected to the shoreline by opened areas that had naturally been cleared over the time.<br \/>\nBecause of its soil classification, it was difficult to plant new species. A selection of plants was determined by observing and mimicking nature. Species that grew well in the local forest were chosen.
