Avec les salles de conf\u00e9rence d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 et la cuisine ouverte de l\u2019autre, ces espaces ont \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7us dans le but d\u2019offrir une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019options pour du travail informel ou des rencontres d\u2019\u00e9quipe.<br \/>\nDerri\u00e8re le comptoir de r\u00e9ception, un mur en briques de verre s\u00e9pare l\u2019espace public des bureaux priv\u00e9s locatifs. Les bureaux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 condens\u00e9s en un noyau central positionn\u00e9 au milieu de l\u2019espace. Un total de 20 puits de lumi\u00e8re a \u00e9t\u00e9 ajout\u00e9 dans les corridors entourant ce volume afin d\u2019amener un maximum de lumi\u00e8re naturelle pr\u00e8s des espaces de travail. Les bureaux ferm\u00e9s sont enti\u00e8rement fenestr\u00e9s sur la circulation et on y acc\u00e8de par de g\u00e9n\u00e9reuses portes coulissantes vitr\u00e9es. Le noyau central, quant \u00e0 lui, se distingue par son unique couleur bourgogne qui recouvre autant les murs, les meneaux et le tapis. En combinant les murs de brique expos\u00e9s, le plancher en c\u00e9ramique de gr\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019abondance de lumi\u00e8re naturelle provenant des puits de lumi\u00e8re dans les corridors, l\u2019ambiance g\u00e9n\u00e9rale donne l\u2019impression de travailler dans une cour int\u00e9rieure.<br \/>\nLa structure existante du b\u00e2timent est elle aussi c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9e dans les sections avant. Les vieilles solives de bois du plafond, la brique apparente et les nouveaux murs de blocs de b\u00e9ton ont tous \u00e9t\u00e9 recouverts d\u2019un enduit blanc textur\u00e9 qui cr\u00e9e un canevas libre pour mettre en \u00e9vidence les fonctions \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur. \u00c0 l\u2019entr\u00e9e, le comptoir de r\u00e9ception occupe le devant de la sc\u00e8ne avec son parement de zinc color\u00e9. Dans chacune des deux zones communes, de grands monolithes dor\u00e9s recouverts des m\u00eames feuilles de zinc s\u2019imposent dans l\u2019espace ; l\u2019un comprend les salles de r\u00e9union et l\u2019autre les banquette priv\u00e9es. Sous les ouvertures en briques de verre, une longue banquette bourgogne s\u2019\u00e9lance sur toute la longueur du mur et int\u00e8gre derri\u00e8re les assises un grand bac \u00e0 plante.<br \/>\nDu c\u00f4t\u00e9 oppos\u00e9, on retrouve dans la cuisine une teinte de couleur similaire avec le marbre rouge Rosso Levanto sur les comptoirs et les portes d\u2019armoire sont recouverts de peinture laqu\u00e9e vert menthe. L\u2019il\u00f4t arrondi recouvert d\u2019acier inoxydable s\u2019apparente aux bacs \u00e0 plante chrom\u00e9s faits sur mesure et dispers\u00e9s un peu partout dans l\u2019espace. Entre la cuisine et les bureaux, un volume ferm\u00e9 comprend une s\u00e9rie de salles d\u2019appel ainsi que des toilettes individuelles. Le bloc sanitaire en entier a \u00e9t\u00e9 trait\u00e9 comme un seul volume recouvert de c\u00e9ramique noire 2\u2033x 2\u2033 qui s\u2019agence avec les \u00e9quipements de plomberie. Tout le mobilier de l\u2019espace commun est noir, contrastant avec le gris p\u00e2le du terrazzo au plancher. Dans les salles de conf\u00e9rence, les t\u00e9l\u00e9visions sont dissimul\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019avant d\u2019\u00e9normes miroirs noirs circulaires r\u00e9tro\u00e9clair\u00e9s qui mettent en \u00e9vidence la brique peinte blanche. Deux grands miroirs bleus similaires sont install\u00e9s dos \u00e0 dos sur le mur de brique central, cr\u00e9ant ainsi des points de rep\u00e8re visibles partout au travers du projet.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>What used to be two separate spaces used for a Jiu Jitsu gym and a beauty salon has now become home to the first Spacial office space. Located on the second floor of an 8000 square foot building on Wellington Street, this new coworking space is directly connected to the busiest part of the Verdun neighborhood of Montreal.<br \/>\nDespite its large footprint, the existing space had very little access to natural light. Only the front fa\u00e7ade and the main staircase have windows, making it a challenge to create a pleasant working environment. By adding new glass brick openings in the staircase wall, it made the two front sections perfect for the shared common spaces. The first one welcomes you with the reception desk and is accompanied by the working lounge with three conference rooms, a banquette and a series of lower sofas. Separated by the existing centre brick wall, the second space consists of the kitchen, dining area and private booths ideal for smaller groups. Both of these spaces are designed to offer a variety of options for informal working or meetings.<br \/>\nBehind the reception desk, a glass brick wall separates the open public spaces from the private rentable offices. Given its distance from the glazed front fa\u00e7ade, it was fundamental to brighten the back section with more than artificial lighting fixtures. To achieve this, the offices were condensed into a single core placed at the center of the space. A total of 20 skylights were added in the surrounding corridors, letting in as much sunlight as possible.<br \/>\nThe closed offices are composed of fixed and sliding glass panels. The entire volume is colored an unconventional dark burgundy, including the mullions and carpeting. With the exposed brick walls, sandstone floor tiles and abundance of natural light pouring into the hallways, the general feeling resembles that of working in an exterior courtyard.<br \/>\nThe existing building structure is celebrated in the front sections as well. The old ceiling joists, exposed brick and newly built walls are all coated with an off-white lime plaster to create a textured blank canvas for the functions held inside. At the entrance, the reception counter takes center-stage with its colorful zinc-plated materiality. On both sides, each of the two open spaces showcase a large golden monolith covered with the same zinc steel sheets: one for the conference rooms and the other for the booths. Below the glass block openings sits a long burgundy velvet banquette with its full length integrated planter. On the opposite side, the kitchen adds a similar color splash with its Rosso Levanto marble and mint green curved cabinetry. The rounded stainless steel island mimics the custom designed chrome planters dispersed throughout the space. Between the kitchen and the office area are hidden a series of phone booths as well as the individual washrooms. The whole sanitary block is treated as a single unit with black 2&#215;2 ceramic tiles and matching plumbing fixtures. All additional furniture in the space is black, contrasting with the light grey terrazzo marble flooring. In the conference rooms, televisions are camouflaged in front of matching circular black mirrors, each backlit to put forward the white-washed brick wall.
