Le probl\u00e8me le plus important auquel sont confront\u00e9s Parcs Canada et le manque de contr\u00f4le et d&#39;influence sur le d\u00e9veloppement des terres voisines, et l&#39;impact d&#39;un d\u00e9veloppement inappropri\u00e9 sur les terrains appartenant au Parc Canada.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>Parks Canada engaged Cohlmeyer to develop long term strategies for the development and preservation of a heritage site in the centre of Montreal.<br \/>\n\u2022\tDevelop design principles and strategies that Parks Canada&#39;s can use for future development of its own projects and be adopted by third parties in the Peel Basin sector.<br \/>\nThe Peel Basin is an important historical site that marked the beginning of industrialization in Canada as well as representing the economic motor for the City of Montreal when the Lachine Canal was an important industrial and manufacturing hub. We worked closely with the Parks Canada team to clarify existing conditions and the complex relationships with surrounding property owners, with the municipal government and with the government of Canada (a significant proportion of the lands bordering the Parks Canada property belong to the Federal government). After years of neglect, it was ceded to Parks Canada in the late 1970s.  Parks Canada has been continually restoring and improving the canal and adjacent land for now over 50 years.  The completion of the Peel Basin area will allow for the fully integrated redevelopment that will include recreation, heritage education and essential urban connections.  Peel Basin is an integral link to Montreal&#39;s growing downtown. The development of this zone will link downtown with Old Montreal, the Old Port, Griffintown and Point St-Charles as well as the old mills &#038; locks into a seamless zone for growing recreation and discovery.<br \/>\nKey points<br \/>\nIntegrate path systems linking the Peel Canal and Basin to the surrounding city.
