Desservant la population du Sud-Ouest, il accueille une quinzaine d\u2019associations et de clubs sportifs offrant \u00e0 la population la possibilit\u00e9 de pratiquer une multitude d\u2019activit\u00e9s sportives et r\u00e9cr\u00e9atives. <strong>B\u00e2timent patrimonial<\/strong> construit en 1960, le centre Gadbois a subi deux agrandissements en 1970 et en 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Le<strong> concours<\/strong> lanc\u00e9 en 2023 par la<strong> Ville de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> avait pour objectif de <strong>r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la v\u00e9tust\u00e9 et \u00e0 la non-conformit\u00e9 des installations existantes<\/strong> \u2013 tout en souhaitant bonifier l\u2019offre r\u00e9cr\u00e9ative et ainsi retrouver un lieu attractif inscrit dans un<strong> renouveau urbain<\/strong> \u2013 le P\u00f4le Gadbois. Parmi la trentaine de dossiers soumis et suite aux deux \u00e9tapes de qualification, la proposition, port\u00e9e par les firmes<strong> PRISME Architecture<\/strong> et <strong>ADHOC Architectes<\/strong>, en collaboration avec les services d\u2019ing\u00e9nierie<strong> GBI<\/strong>, a \u00e9t\u00e9 retenue \u00e0 l\u2019unanimit\u00e9 par les membres du jury.<\/p>\n<p>Optimisant la<strong> synergie<\/strong> entre l\u2019existant et le nouveau, r\u00e9duisant les interventions sur l\u2019existant \u00e0 l\u2019essentiel, le projet adopte une <strong>approche p\u00e9dagogique<\/strong> d\u2019architecture <strong>pragmatique et circulaire<\/strong>. En somme, il se pr\u00e9sente comme un projet urbain avant-gardiste, align\u00e9 sur les valeurs <strong>ESG<\/strong> actualis\u00e9es de la ville de Montr\u00e9al, au c\u0153ur de sa transition \u00e9cologique, sociale et communautaire.<\/p>\n<p>En plus d\u2019apporter une r\u00e9ponse remarquable aux enjeux du mandat, le consortium, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leurs comp\u00e9tences compl\u00e9mentaires, a con\u00e7u avec succ\u00e8s un projet qui allie autant viabilit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique que technique. Rendant hommage \u00e0 la <strong>richesse historique<\/strong> des lieux et proposant une<strong> intervention contemporaine<\/strong> qui s\u2019inscrit avec sensibilit\u00e9 dans son contexte, le projet se distingue par son engagement en faveur de la <strong>durabilit\u00e9<\/strong> et par son apport pour la <strong>communaut\u00e9<\/strong>, d\u2019ailleurs soulign\u00e9e par le comit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valoriser l\u2019existant dans un objectif de carboneutralit\u00e9.<br \/>\n<\/strong>(\u00c9cologie \u2013 minimiser l\u2019impact de l\u2019intervention sur l\u2019environnement)<\/p>\n<p>Le b\u00e2timent le plus \u00e9cologique se veut celui qui n\u2019est pas construit et, en second lieu, celui qui existe d\u00e9j\u00e0. Dans cette perspective de <strong>carboneutralit\u00e9<\/strong>, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a fond\u00e9 ses solutions sur la <strong>conservation maximale de l\u2019existant<\/strong>, l\u2019<strong>adoption de strat\u00e9gies passives<\/strong> et d<strong>\u2019interventions minimales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Concr\u00e8tement, le parti architectural de l\u2019\u00e9quipe fut de conserver un maximum d\u2019existant en proposant plut\u00f4t le r\u00e9am\u00e9nagement complet du bloc central ainsi qu\u2019un agrandissement l\u00e9g\u00e8rement distanc\u00e9, \u00e9vitant ainsi la mise aux normes sismiques et le renforcissement structural de l\u2019existant. Ce parti permet de<strong> lib\u00e9rer d\u2019importantes sommes<\/strong> pour am\u00e9liorer la qualit\u00e9 des espaces et de l\u2019enveloppe du b\u00e2timent existant; une r\u00e9elle plus-value pour les usagers et la durabilit\u00e9 du projet. Ce parti permet la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un espace communautaire bonus, soit par la transformation du gymnase existant qui se voit conserv\u00e9 et transform\u00e9 en <strong>agora<\/strong> centrale et polyvalente et qui permettra au centre Gadbois de bonifier son offre en activit\u00e9s communautaires. Au final, c\u2019est environ 3 260m\u00b2 qui seront ajout\u00e9s aux quelques 20 000m\u00b2 existants, dont plus de 6 000m\u00b2\u00a0 seront r\u00e9am\u00e9nag\u00e9s et r\u00e9nov\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019agrandissement propos\u00e9, nouveau point focal de la <strong>Woonerf Saint-Pierre<\/strong>, se veut un volume compact v\u00eatu d\u2019une enveloppe \u00e0 <strong>haute performance \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique<\/strong>. Le nouveau volume orn\u00e9 de ma\u00e7onnerie se soul\u00e8ve au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e pour s\u2019ouvrir sur le parc adjacent reprenant ainsi certains gestes du b\u00e2timent existant. La brique se d\u00e9ploie comme un n\u00e9gatif de l\u2019empreinte des silos, en rappel aux vestiges de la Smoky valley. La derni\u00e8re strate de l\u2019agrandissement, en rev\u00eatement l\u00e9ger ondulant du c\u00f4t\u00e9 Ouest, permet d\u2019adoucir l\u2019impact visuel du volume du gymnase en relation avec le b\u00e2timent patrimonial existant. Nait ainsi une dualit\u00e9 entre le patrimoine construit (solide) et le paysage (flots du canal).<\/p>\n<p>Dans l\u2019existant, des percements cibl\u00e9s, <strong>blocs de lumi\u00e8re<\/strong>, permettent aux usagers de retrouver des <strong>rep\u00e8res spatio-temporels<\/strong> \u00e0 l\u2019aide du nouvel <strong>apport de lumi\u00e8re<\/strong>. Partant du principe que le mouvement est au sport ce que les usagers sont au b\u00e2timent, la circulation en transparence agit comme toile de fond pour le mettre en sc\u00e8ne. Le centre, d\u00e9j\u00e0 reconnu pour son implication aupr\u00e8s d\u2019organismes communautaires, s\u2019adaptera \u00e0 divers usages compl\u00e9mentaires, assurera une <strong>accessibilit\u00e9 universelle<\/strong>, enrichissant l\u2019offre actuelle et r\u00e9pondant aux besoins de la communaut\u00e9 pour de nombreuses ann\u00e9es \u00e0 venir.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonifier les installations sportives, culturelles et communautaires du grand Sud-Ouest.<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u2013 redonner \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9)<\/p>\n<p>Initialement construit en 1960, le b\u00e2timent patrimonial se pr\u00e9sente aujourd\u2019hui comme une enfilade d\u2019agrandissements (1970, 1980) enclav\u00e9s par la nouvelle mouture de l\u2019\u00e9changeur Turcot. Son environnement s\u2019est peu \u00e0 peu <strong>d\u00e9connect\u00e9 du canal<\/strong> et son implantation s\u2019est retrouv\u00e9e de plus en plus <strong>enclav\u00e9e<\/strong> et recentr\u00e9e sur elle-m\u00eame. Ceci est d\u2019autant plus vrai avec l\u2019apparition du nouvel \u00e9changeur Turcot; cette grande infrastructure agit comme un mur imp\u00e9n\u00e9trable tournant le dos au Centre r\u00e9cr\u00e9atif Gadbois. Le projet a voulu s\u2019inspirer de cette richesse cr\u00e9\u00e9e par la <strong>superposition de ces strates<\/strong> et de ces \u00e9volutions \u00e0 travers les \u00e9poques. L\u2019approche conceptuelle se veut donc <strong>respectueuse<\/strong> de ce qu\u2019est et de ce que sera demain. Le projet <strong>valorise l\u2019existant<\/strong> et le <strong>savoir-faire pass\u00e9<\/strong> en minimisant la modification du b\u00e2timent existant et en diminuant ainsi les d\u00e9chets reli\u00e9s \u00e0 une d\u00e9molition non-requise. Cela permet du m\u00eame coup de revaloriser les espaces conserv\u00e9s : riches de l\u2019histoire du lieu. Bref, il en d\u00e9coule un projet <strong>urbain pr\u00e9curseur<\/strong>, ancr\u00e9 dans les valeurs <strong>ESG <\/strong>actualis\u00e9es de la ville de Montr\u00e9al, au c\u0153ur de sa transition \u00e9cologique, sociale et communautaire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPROCHE CONCEPTUELLE<\/strong> <em>vers une architecture circulaire pragmatique<br \/>\n<\/em>Ces p\u00f4les r\u00e9cr\u00e9atifs doivent accentuer leur <strong>r\u00f4le communautaire<\/strong> puisqu\u2019ils sont au c\u0153ur de l\u2019apprentissage des saines habitudes de vie et du d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019un sentiment d\u2019appartenance fort \u00e0 son quartier. Pour se faire, en plus d\u2019offrir des <strong>plateaux sportifs s\u00e9curitaires<\/strong>, comp\u00e9titifs et de qualit\u00e9, les firmes ont pr\u00e9vu des <strong>espaces interstitiels de socialisation<\/strong> et de rencontres impr\u00e9vues qui augmenteront instantan\u00e9ment l\u2019<strong>attractivit\u00e9<\/strong> du lieu pour sa communaut\u00e9. Aucun geste architectural n\u2019est gratuit<\/strong>, tout a une fonction claire, tout est planifi\u00e9 m\u00e9ticuleusement. Les<strong> ouvertures<\/strong> judicieusement positionn\u00e9es \u00e0 travers le projet servent de <strong>rep\u00e8re<\/strong> autant temporel que spatial. Au sol, la palestre s\u2019ouvre sur le parc pour cr\u00e9er un lien fort entre les activit\u00e9s int\u00e9rieures et ext\u00e9rieures. Au point le plus haut, les gradins du gymnase s\u2019ouvrent lat\u00e9ralement pour offrir trois points focaux soit le fleuve\/canal, le Mont-Royal ainsi que le centre-ville. Dans l\u2019existant, des fen\u00eatres ajout\u00e9es dans le volume des sports de combat cr\u00e9ent une perc\u00e9e visuelle fortement souhait\u00e9e dans un secteur isol\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Transformer le gymnase simple en <strong>agora<\/strong> permet de d\u00e9mocratiser davantage le lieu. Le caract\u00e8re rassembleur de l\u2019espace demeure et se veut m\u00eame plus<strong> inclusif<\/strong> encore. Rappelons \u00e9galement que le centre Gadbois, en continuit\u00e9 avec le langage architectural moderne et les id\u00e9aux humanistes de l\u2019\u00e9poque, alliant corps et esprit, souhaitait initialement avoir une vocation \u00e0 la fois sportive, communautaire et artistique. Alors que le volet artistique a doucement \u00e9t\u00e9 occult\u00e9 pour faire place au sport, le projet propos\u00e9 souhaite r\u00e9introduire cette programmation et l\u2019int\u00e9grer au c\u0153ur du projet. L\u2019objectif est donc de <strong>\u201cboucler la boucle\u201d<\/strong> et de finir l\u2019\u0153uvre tel qu\u2019elle avait \u00e9t\u00e9 initialement imagin\u00e9e par ses cr\u00e9ateurs en hommage au p\u00e8re des terrains de jeux de Montr\u00e9al, Dr Joseph-Pierre Gadbois.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>CONCEPT SPATIO-TEMPOREL<\/strong> <em>la lumi\u00e8re comme rep\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019usager en mouvement<br \/>\n<\/em>Un centre sportif est un lieu qui c\u00e9l\u00e8bre le mouvement du corps. Partant du principe que le mouvement est au sport ce que les usagers sont au b\u00e2timent, l\u2019architecture agit comme toile de fond pour le mettre en sc\u00e8ne. Grand th\u00e9\u00e2tre des <strong>flux de circulations<\/strong> \u2013 les usagers sont guid\u00e9s par <strong>la lumi\u00e8re<\/strong>, <strong>la signal\u00e9tique<\/strong> et <strong>la transparence des espaces<\/strong>. Le projet propos\u00e9, \u00e0 travers trois interventions ponctuelles, permet de cr\u00e9er des rep\u00e8res forts et lumineux, qui relient autant les parties existantes que l\u2019agrandissement pour former un tout coh\u00e9rent. Rythm\u00e9e par la lumi\u00e8re naturelle et artificielle, la proposition permet \u00e0 l\u2019usager d\u2019\u00eatre guid\u00e9 dans des <strong>circulations claires et anim\u00e9es<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>*Le premier dispositif, l\u2019ajout d\u2019un volume imbriquant minutieusement la palestre et le gymnase triple permet de venir y circonscrire un espace ext\u00e9rieur interstitiel essentiel, soit une cour int\u00e9rieure autour de laquelle se concentre la circulation de l\u2019usager. Guid\u00e9 par l\u2019escalier color\u00e9, l\u2019usager \u00e0 pied ou par ascenseur acc\u00e8de d\u2019ici \u00e0 tous les niveaux existants et nouveaux. Dans cet espace ouvert agissant comme le poumon droit du centre, tout en hauteur, un contact visuel peut facilement \u00eatre fait \u00e0 partir de plusieurs points vers sa destination, tant de l\u2019existant que de l\u2019agrandissement.<\/p>\n<p>*La deuxi\u00e8me entra\u00eene quant \u00e0 elle une soustraction. Par la transformation de l\u2019espace actuel d\u2019halt\u00e9rophilie, par l\u2019ajout de parois vitr\u00e9es ou \u00e9vid\u00e9es ainsi que l\u2019installation d\u2019un puits de lumi\u00e8re, l\u2019acc\u00e8s Ouest s\u2019en voit d\u00e9cloisonn\u00e9. Ce lieu en retrait sert autant de rep\u00e8re visuel que d\u2019espace multifonctionnel plus reclus pour la pratique d\u2019activit\u00e9s plus introspectives comme le yoga, le tai-chi ou bien comme espace d\u2019\u00e9tude. Cette nouvelle verri\u00e8re ajoute une transparence essentielle aux circulations existantes \u00e9troites. Comme une bouff\u00e9e d\u2019air entre deux circulations, il devient le poumon gauche du projet.<\/p>\n<p>*La troisi\u00e8me intervention \u00e9vide le gymnase simple existant construit en 1981 pour y cr\u00e9er une agora ouverte, int\u00e9grant le nouvel acc\u00e8s principal au Centre Gadbois. Cette agora devient le coeur communautaire multifonctionnel o\u00f9 toutes les circulations convergent. \u00c0 partir de la Woonerf, le citoyen entre par cette agora en continuit\u00e9 avec le parc et l\u2019esplanade publique cr\u00e9\u00e9e. Comme une ville int\u00e9rieure, ce lieu convivial ponctu\u00e9 de volumes appropriables, battra au rythme des \u00e9v\u00e9nements culturels de petite envergure, de rencontres associatives, de voisinage ou m\u00eame de remises de m\u00e9dailles ou de vernissages artistiques. Il sera tant\u00f4t lieu d\u2019\u00e9tude et de lecture, tant\u00f4t espace caf\u00e9 pour les parents qui attendent leurs enfants, tant\u00f4t lieu de rencontre entre athl\u00e8tes et parents, tant\u00f4t espace cr\u00e9atif pour sportifs ou moins. Il permettra la tenue d\u2019activit\u00e9s lors d\u2019\u00e9pisodes de froid ou de pluie tout en restant connect\u00e9 avec le Parc Gadbois, renfor\u00e7ant ainsi le caract\u00e8re communautaire et significatif du lieu pour la communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RAPPORT DURABLE<\/strong> <em>la p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 comme mot d\u2019ordre<br \/>\n<\/em>Le b\u00e2timent le plus \u00e9cologique se veut celui qui n\u2019est pas construit et, en second lieu, celui qui existe d\u00e9j\u00e0. C\u2019est dans cette optique de <strong>carboneutralit\u00e9<\/strong> que la conservation d\u2019un maximum de l\u2019existant, des <strong>strat\u00e9gies passives<\/strong> ainsi que des <strong>interventions minimales<\/strong> se sont av\u00e9r\u00e9es des fondements de conception. Un <strong>volume compact<\/strong> et une <strong>enveloppe \u00e0 haute performance<\/strong> permettent de r\u00e9duire les d\u00e9perditions thermiques et d\u2019atteindre un ID\u00c9T au moins 10% plus performant que la cible de la norme des b\u00e2timents \u00e0 carbone z\u00e9ro (BCZ design). Afin d\u2019assurer la long\u00e9vit\u00e9 de l\u2019enveloppe, des <strong>mat\u00e9riaux durables<\/strong> et<strong> locaux<\/strong> tels, que la brique d\u2019argile, sont employ\u00e9s. Significative dans le paysage urbain montr\u00e9alais, la brique d\u2019argile est un mat\u00e9riau ayant une faible empreinte \u00e9cologique sur sa dur\u00e9e de vie utile; sa fabrication est peu \u00e9nergivore et demande peu d\u2019entretien. Son agencement offre la possibilit\u00e9 de cr\u00e9er une \u00e9paisseur qui anime les fa\u00e7ades au soleil; son travail par de petits \u00e9l\u00e9ments semblable \u00e0 celui de la dentelle s\u2019appr\u00e9cie autant de loin que de pr\u00e8s. L\u2019am\u00e9nagement ext\u00e9rieur comprend des jardins de pluie et des zones v\u00e9g\u00e9talis\u00e9es d\u2019esp\u00e8ces indig\u00e8nes afin de capter un maximum d\u2019eau sur le site et de r\u00e9duire l\u2019arrosage. L\u2019ensemble des strat\u00e9gies de v\u00e9g\u00e9talisation combin\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019ajout d\u2019une toiture v\u00e9g\u00e9talis\u00e9e r\u00e9duisent l\u2019impact de l\u2019agrandissement sur le parc en cr\u00e9ant des espaces frais \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur d\u2019une zone fortement min\u00e9ralis\u00e9e propice aux \u00eelots de chaleur. La structure est compos\u00e9e d\u2019un <strong>hybride acier-bois<\/strong>. Le bois est utilis\u00e9 pour le toit de l\u2019agrandissement notamment pour son bilan carbone favorable. Desservant la population du Sud-Ouest, il accueille une quinzaine d\u2019associations et de clubs sportifs offrant \u00e0 la population la possibilit\u00e9 de pratiquer une multitude d\u2019activit\u00e9s sportives et r\u00e9cr\u00e9atives. <strong>B\u00e2timent patrimonial<\/strong> construit en 1960, le centre Gadbois a subi deux agrandissements en 1970 et en 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Le<strong> concours<\/strong> lanc\u00e9 en 2023 par la<strong> Ville de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> avait pour objectif de <strong>r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la v\u00e9tust\u00e9 et \u00e0 la non-conformit\u00e9 des installations existantes<\/strong> \u2013 tout en souhaitant bonifier l\u2019offre r\u00e9cr\u00e9ative et ainsi retrouver un lieu attractif inscrit dans un<strong> renouveau urbain<\/strong> \u2013 le P\u00f4le Gadbois. Parmi la trentaine de dossiers soumis et suite aux deux \u00e9tapes de qualification, la proposition, port\u00e9e par les firmes<strong> PRISME Architecture<\/strong> et <strong>ADHOC Architectes<\/strong>, en collaboration avec les services d\u2019ing\u00e9nierie<strong> GBI<\/strong>, a \u00e9t\u00e9 retenue \u00e0 l\u2019unanimit\u00e9 par les membres du jury.<\/p>\n<p>Optimisant la<strong> synergie<\/strong> entre l\u2019existant et le nouveau, r\u00e9duisant les interventions sur l\u2019existant \u00e0 l\u2019essentiel, le projet adopte une <strong>approche p\u00e9dagogique<\/strong> d\u2019architecture <strong>pragmatique et circulaire<\/strong>. En somme, il se pr\u00e9sente comme un projet urbain avant-gardiste, align\u00e9 sur les valeurs <strong>ESG<\/strong> actualis\u00e9es de la ville de Montr\u00e9al, au c\u0153ur de sa transition \u00e9cologique, sociale et communautaire.<\/p>\n<p>En plus d\u2019apporter une r\u00e9ponse remarquable aux enjeux du mandat, le consortium, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leurs comp\u00e9tences compl\u00e9mentaires, a con\u00e7u avec succ\u00e8s un projet qui allie autant viabilit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique que technique. Rendant hommage \u00e0 la <strong>richesse historique<\/strong> des lieux et proposant une<strong> intervention contemporaine<\/strong> qui s\u2019inscrit avec sensibilit\u00e9 dans son contexte, le projet se distingue par son engagement en faveur de la <strong>durabilit\u00e9<\/strong> et par son apport pour la <strong>communaut\u00e9<\/strong>, d\u2019ailleurs soulign\u00e9e par le comit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valoriser l\u2019existant dans un objectif de carboneutralit\u00e9.<br \/>\n<\/strong>(\u00c9cologie \u2013 minimiser l\u2019impact de l\u2019intervention sur l\u2019environnement)<\/p>\n<p>Le b\u00e2timent le plus \u00e9cologique se veut celui qui n\u2019est pas construit et, en second lieu, celui qui existe d\u00e9j\u00e0. Ce parti permet de<strong> lib\u00e9rer d\u2019importantes sommes<\/strong> pour am\u00e9liorer la qualit\u00e9 des espaces et de l\u2019enveloppe du b\u00e2timent existant; une r\u00e9elle plus-value pour les usagers et la durabilit\u00e9 du projet. Ce parti permet la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un espace communautaire bonus, soit par la transformation du gymnase existant qui se voit conserv\u00e9 et transform\u00e9 en <strong>agora<\/strong> centrale et polyvalente et qui permettra au centre Gadbois de bonifier son offre en activit\u00e9s communautaires. Au final, c\u2019est environ 3 260m\u00b2 qui seront ajout\u00e9s aux quelques 20 000m\u00b2 existants, dont plus de 6 000m\u00b2\u00a0 seront r\u00e9am\u00e9nag\u00e9s et r\u00e9nov\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019agrandissement propos\u00e9, nouveau point focal de la <strong>Woonerf Saint-Pierre<\/strong>, se veut un volume compact v\u00eatu d\u2019une enveloppe \u00e0 <strong>haute performance \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique<\/strong>. Le nouveau volume orn\u00e9 de ma\u00e7onnerie se soul\u00e8ve au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e pour s\u2019ouvrir sur le parc adjacent reprenant ainsi certains gestes du b\u00e2timent existant. La brique se d\u00e9ploie comme un n\u00e9gatif de l\u2019empreinte des silos, en rappel aux vestiges de la Smoky valley. La derni\u00e8re strate de l\u2019agrandissement, en rev\u00eatement l\u00e9ger ondulant du c\u00f4t\u00e9 Ouest, permet d\u2019adoucir l\u2019impact visuel du volume du gymnase en relation avec le b\u00e2timent patrimonial existant. Nait ainsi une dualit\u00e9 entre le patrimoine construit (solide) et le paysage (flots du canal).<\/p>\n<p>Dans l\u2019existant, des percements cibl\u00e9s, <strong>blocs de lumi\u00e8re<\/strong>, permettent aux usagers de retrouver des <strong>rep\u00e8res spatio-temporels<\/strong> \u00e0 l\u2019aide du nouvel <strong>apport de lumi\u00e8re<\/strong>. Le centre, d\u00e9j\u00e0 reconnu pour son implication aupr\u00e8s d\u2019organismes communautaires, s\u2019adaptera \u00e0 divers usages compl\u00e9mentaires, assurera une <strong>accessibilit\u00e9 universelle<\/strong>, enrichissant l\u2019offre actuelle et r\u00e9pondant aux besoins de la communaut\u00e9 pour de nombreuses ann\u00e9es \u00e0 venir.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonifier les installations sportives, culturelles et communautaires du grand Sud-Ouest.<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u2013 redonner \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9)<\/p>\n<p>Initialement construit en 1960, le b\u00e2timent patrimonial se pr\u00e9sente aujourd\u2019hui comme une enfilade d\u2019agrandissements (1970, 1980) enclav\u00e9s par la nouvelle mouture de l\u2019\u00e9changeur Turcot. L\u2019objectif du concours visait donc \u00e0 revoir les installations afin de les bonifier et de les mettre \u00e0 niveau, cr\u00e9ant un tout qui s\u2019int\u00e8gre au patrimoine du lieu.<\/p>\n<p>Les \u00e9quipes \u00e9taient \u00e9valu\u00e9es sur les points suivants :\u00a0 l\u2019int\u00e9gration urbaine, la qualit\u00e9 architecturale, l\u2019am\u00e9lioration des circulations et la facilit\u00e9 d\u2019orientation, l\u2019int\u00e9gration des mesures\/ l\u2019innovation en mati\u00e8re de transition \u00e9cologique ainsi que la faisabilit\u00e9 budg\u00e9taire.<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9sultante est un projet qui se projette dans le temps avec une nouvelle construction des plus exemplaires en mati\u00e8re d\u2019\u00e9coresponsabilit\u00e9 ; un projet qui optimise la synergie entre l\u2019existant et le nouveau avec une approche p\u00e9dagogique d\u2019architecture pragmatique et circulaire.<\/p>\n","en":"<p><strong>The Complexe r\u00e9cr\u00e9atif Gadbois<\/strong> is one of Montreal\u2019s most important <strong>sports centers<\/strong>. Serving the population of the Sud-Ouest, it is home to some fifteen sports associations and clubs offering the population the opportunity to practice a multitude of sports and recreational activities. <strong>A heritage building<\/strong> built in 1960, the Gadbois center underwent two expansions in 1970 and 1981.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong>competition<\/strong> launched in 2023 by the<strong> Ville de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> aimed to <strong>respond to the obsolescence and non-compliance of existing facilities<\/strong> \u2013 while wishing to enhance the recreational offer and thus recover an attractive location part of an<strong>urban renewal<\/strong> \u2013 the P\u00f4le Gadbois. Among the thirty or so submissions and following the two qualification stages, the proposal, brought forward by the firms<strong> PRISME Architecture<\/strong> and <strong>ADHOC Architectes<\/strong>, in collaboration with engineering services<strong> GBI<\/strong>, was unanimously selected by the jury members.<\/p>\n<p>Organizing the project in a way that is both innovative and attractive is a key factor in the success of the project.<\/p>\n<p>Optimizing the<strong>synergy<\/strong> between the existing and the new, reducing interventions on the existing to the essential, the project adopts a <strong>pedagogical<\/strong> approach of <strong>pragmatic and circular<\/strong> architecture. In short, it presents itself as an avant-garde urban project, aligned with the <strong>ESG<\/strong> updated values of the city of Montreal, at the heart of its ecological, social and community transition.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to providing a remarkable response to the challenges of the mandate, the consortium, thanks to their complementary skills, has successfully designed a project that combines economic and technical viability in equal measure. Paying homage to the <strong>historical richness<\/strong> of the premises and proposing a<strong>contemporary intervention<\/strong> that sensitively fits its context, the project stands out for its commitment to <strong>sustainability<\/strong> and its contribution to the <strong>community<\/strong>, moreover highlighted by the committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valuing the existing with a view to carbon neutrality.<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Ecology \u2013 minimizing the impact of intervention on the environment)<\/p>\n<p>The most ecological building is intended to be the one that is not built and, secondarily, the one that already exists. In this perspective of <strong>carboneutrality<\/strong>, the team has based its solutions on the <strong>maximum conservation of the existing<\/strong>, the <strong>adoption of passive strategies<\/strong> and d<strong>\u2018minimal interventions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The most ecological building is the one that is not built, and secondly, the one that already exists.<\/p>\n<p>Concretely, the team\u2019s architectural choice was to preserve as much of the existing building as possible, proposing instead the complete redevelopment of the central block, as well as a slightly distanced extension, thus avoiding seismic retrofitting and structural reinforcement of the existing building. This approach frees up significant sums of money to improve the quality of the existing building\u2019s spaces and envelope, providing real added value for users and ensuring the sustainability of the project. This approach allows for the creation of a bonus community space, by transforming the existing gymnasium into a central, multi-purpose \u00ab\u00a0agora\u00a0\u00bb, which will enable the Gadbois center to enhance its community activities. In the end, some 3,260m\u00b2 will be added to the existing 20,000m\u00b2, of which more than 6,000m\u00b2 will be redeveloped and renovated.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed expansion of the Gadbois center will be a major step forward in the development of this new facility.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed extension, the new focal point of the <strong>Woonerf Saint-Pierre<\/strong>, is intended to be a compact volume clad in a <strong>high energy performance<\/strong> envelope. The new masonry-adorned volume rises at ground level to open onto the adjacent park, echoing some of the gestures of the existing building. The brickwork unfurls like a negative of the silo footprint, recalling the remains of the Smoky Valley. The final layer of the extension, a light, undulating cladding on the west side, softens the visual impact of the gymnasium\u2019s volume in relation to the existing heritage building. A duality is thus born between the built heritage (solid) and the landscape (waves of the canal).<\/p>\n<p>In the existing building, targeted breakthroughs, <strong>blocks of light<\/strong>, enable users to rediscover <strong>spatiotemporal landmarks<\/strong> with the help of the new <strong>contribution of light<\/strong>. Based on the principle that movement is to sport what users are to the building, the transparent circulation acts as a backdrop to set the scene. The center, already recognized for its involvement with community organizations, will adapt to a variety of complementary uses, ensuring <strong>universal accessibility<\/strong>, enriching the current offering and meeting the needs of the community for many years to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To enhance sports, cultural and community facilities in the greater Southwest.<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Company \u2013 giving back to the community)<\/p>\n<p>Initially built in 1960, the heritage building today appears as a string of expansions (1970, 1980) hemmed in by the new iteration of the Turcot interchange.
