The company called on GKC Architecture &amp; Design as its prime consultant and architect, while Imperatori Design designed the office interiors.<\/p>\n<p>Directly connected to the distribution centre, the 100,000 sq. ft. administrative centre is three storeys high. It reflects Metro\u2019s desire to bring together its 250 warehouse employees and some 500 office staff in a single location, promoting interdepartmental collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>The administrative centre is distinguished by its black curtain wall resting on an interlaced metal base. As with the industrial building volumes, opaque vertical bands add dynamism to the fa\u00e7ade. They are found on the upper glazed section and the metal base and extend onto the paving surrounding the building.<\/p>\n<p>The approach, which focuses on the quality of work environments and user-friendly spaces, is designed to promote employee return to the office and group collaboration. The emphasis is on creating a strong sense of belonging by integrating design elements that reflect the company\u2019s culture and values.<\/p>\n<p>This approach aims to transcend the simple functionality of workspaces to incorporate elements that promote an enriching daily experience, evoking the comfort and quality of life usually found at home. METRO has chosen to go beyond the professional sphere by bringing together under one roof all the services that contribute to work-life balance: places to work, train, meet, and relax, as well as multifunctional spaces for eating, preparing, or buying meals, including a complete commercial kitchen, a fitness centre, and a future day-care centre.<\/p>\n<p>The interior of the administrative block, in symbiosis with the exterior, helps to create a coherent identity. While a visual polarity is produced by the contrast between the white panels of the atrium on one side and the black staircase extending over three floors on the other, the warmth of the white oak surfaces and the naturally soothing colours used throughout respond to the raw materiality of the concrete floors and steel elements.<\/p>\n<p>The main circulation system is designed around two main axes that structure and guide the flow of people through the space in a fluid and intuitive way. METRO has chosen to go beyond the professional sphere by bringing together under one roof all the services that contribute to work-life balance: places to work, train, meet, and relax, as well as multifunctional spaces for eating, preparing, or buying meals, including a complete commercial kitchen, a fitness centre, and a future day-care centre.<\/p>\n<p>The interior of the administrative block, in symbiosis with the exterior, helps to create a coherent identity. While a visual polarity is produced by the contrast between the white panels of the atrium on one side and the black staircase extending over three floors on the other, the warmth of the white oak surfaces and the naturally soothing colours used throughout respond to the raw materiality of the concrete floors and steel elements.<\/p>\n<p>The main circulation system is designed around two main axes that structure and guide the flow of people through the space in a fluid and intuitive way. This spatial organization also facilitates orientation with clear visual cues. At the perimeter of the building, the fully glazed curtain wall creates a <em>mise en abyme<\/em>, allowing natural light and the outdoors in for the benefit of the occupants.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the METRO Campus aspires to be much more than a conventional workplace.
