The facade of the new entrance building extends perpendicularly to de Maisonneuve Boulevard in order to assert this new urban entrance and open onto the plaza at the intersection of Vend\u00f4me Avenue. The volume of the building creates an opening at the junction with the existing metro tunnel, allowing it to be attached perpendicularly, with a view to structural and functional optimisation.<\/p>\n<p>Upon approaching the station, a signal canopy welcomes the users and identifies the two entrances to the building, one dedicated to the metro and one allowing direct access to the underground corridor leading to the EXO station and to MUHC. Le projet devait en effet r\u00e9pondre aux attentes de toutes les entit\u00e9s, dont les trois exploitants, mais \u00e9galement les deux arrondissements touch\u00e9s, ainsi que les riverains et les futurs utilisateurs. La verri\u00e8re et la sculpture ont alors \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9plac\u00e9es pour \u00eatre entrepos\u00e9es temporairement et des travaux de restauration sont toujours en cours.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Le d\u00e9veloppement durable comme un pilier du processus<\/span><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ensemble de ces approches de conception et de ce processus de r\u00e9alisation ont \u00e9t\u00e9 accompagn\u00e9s d\u2019une r\u00e9flexion visant l\u2019int\u00e9gration des meilleures pratiques de d\u00e9veloppement durable, et ce pour chacune des phases de son cycle de vie.<\/p>\n<p>En effet, le projet est en lui-m\u00eame une action concr\u00e8te d\u2019am\u00e9lioration de la durabilit\u00e9 de la station Vend\u00f4me et de ses abords. Cette derni\u00e8re reconnait l\u2019excellence des projets d\u2019infrastructures \u00e9cologiques et \u00e0 impact positif pour les communaut\u00e9s. Le projet permet donc non seulement ce d\u00e9senclavement, mais \u00e9galement une am\u00e9lioration de la mobilit\u00e9 dans le quartier, une meilleure connectivit\u00e9 entre les diff\u00e9rents r\u00e9seaux de transport collectif (m\u00e9tro, train de banlieue, autobus), de m\u00eame qu\u2019une s\u00e9curisation des d\u00e9placements pi\u00e9tons.<\/p>\n<p>Afin d\u2019atteindre ces objectifs de connectivit\u00e9 tout en prot\u00e9geant le patrimoine architectural de la station de m\u00e9tro existante, dont son \u00e9dicule, construit en 1981, ainsi que l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art de l\u2019artiste Marcelle Ferron, le projet s\u2019ins\u00e8re dans un site exigu situ\u00e9 entre la boucle d\u2019autobus et le b\u00e2timent existant du 5100 boulevard de Maisonneuve. Celui-ci int\u00e8gre donc une multiplicit\u00e9 de composantes devant g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un ensemble harmonis\u00e9 \u00e0 la station de m\u00e9tro, dont l\u2019\u00e9dicule lui-m\u00eame, les nouveaux \u00e9dicules de la gare EXO, ainsi que le lien pi\u00e9tonnier souterrain vers le CUSM.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Une insertion coh\u00e9rente<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Afin de r\u00e9aliser cette insertion d\u00e9licate et minimiser l\u2019emprise au sol de l\u2019\u00e9mergence, les \u00e9l\u00e9ments du projet sont partiellement int\u00e9gr\u00e9s au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e du b\u00e2timent existant. La fa\u00e7ade du nouvel \u00e9dicule s\u2019avance perpendiculairement au boulevard de Maisonneuve afin d\u2019affirmer cette nouvelle entr\u00e9e urbaine et s\u2019ouvrir sur la placette am\u00e9nag\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019intersection de l\u2019avenue de Vend\u00f4me. Les strat\u00e9gies d\u2019am\u00e9nagement permettent une s\u00e9curisation des acc\u00e8s par rapport \u00e0 la boucle d\u2019autobus afin de faciliter les d\u00e9placements pi\u00e9tons jusqu\u2019au nouvel \u00e9dicule.<\/p>\n<p>La volum\u00e9trie de l\u2019\u00e9dicule pr\u00e9sente une brisure \u00e0 la jonction avec le tunnel de m\u00e9tro existant, lui permettant de s\u2019y rattacher perpendiculairement, dans une optique d\u2019efficacit\u00e9 structurale et fonctionnelle. La fa\u00e7ade, dont le rythme rappelle celui de l\u2019\u00e9dicule existant, accompagne le mouvement des autobus de la boucle adjacente et permet un lien visuel entre la nouvelle entr\u00e9e et la verri\u00e8re color\u00e9e lui faisant face (l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art de Marcelle Ferron). Sa mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 \u00e9pur\u00e9e laisse transpara\u00eetre les arches de b\u00e9ton int\u00e9rieures qui ponctuent le parcours de l\u2019usager.<\/p>\n<p>La volum\u00e9trie des \u00e9dicules d\u2019Exo constitue \u00e9galement une r\u00e9ponse simple et \u00e9l\u00e9gante \u00e0 leur fonctionnalit\u00e9, qui n\u00e9cessite transparence, protection et confort pour les usagers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Un parcours fonctionnel, fluide et inclusif<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Le parcours des usagers d\u00e9bute \u00e0 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e sur la placette publique, con\u00e7ue pour faciliter les d\u00e9placements de tous les types d\u2019usagers. Tout comme \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de l\u2019\u00e9dicule et du lien pi\u00e9ton souterrain, un processus rigoureux et consultatif, avec des experts en accessibilit\u00e9 universelle, a permis d\u2019int\u00e9grer les strat\u00e9gies optimales d\u2019am\u00e9nagement, notamment quant au positionnement des composantes de circulation, mais \u00e9galement quant aux aspects de finition des surfaces et de d\u00e9tails int\u00e9rieurs. Ainsi, des bordures lin\u00e9aires et sans excroissances accompagnent le parcours des personnes ayant des d\u00e9ficiences visuelles, la coloration des surfaces assure des contrastes ad\u00e9quats, puis le positionnement des ascenseurs en adjacence avec les escaliers favorise la visibilit\u00e9 et le sentiment de proximit\u00e9 des diff\u00e9rents utilisateurs. Ces aspects permettent donc non seulement \u00e0 la station de m\u00e9tro et \u00e0 la gare Vend\u00f4me de devenir accessibles universellement, mais \u00e9galement d\u2019offrir un lien pi\u00e9ton sans obstacle, s\u00e9curitaire et \u00e0 l\u2019abri des intemp\u00e9ries entre l\u2019h\u00f4pital et son quartier d\u2019insertion.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s l\u2019approche vers l\u2019\u00e9dicule, une marquise signal\u00e9tique accueille les usagers et identifie les deux entr\u00e9es du b\u00e2timent, une d\u00e9di\u00e9e au m\u00e9tro et une permettant d\u2019acc\u00e9der directement au corridor souterrain menant aux \u00e9dicules d\u2019EXO et au CUSM. Deux liens int\u00e9rieurs permettent \u00e9galement aux usagers de transiter d\u2019une zone \u00e0 l\u2019autre.<\/p>\n<p>La trame structurale, favorisant un alignement p\u00e9riph\u00e9rique des colonnes, permet un plan compl\u00e8tement ouvert, ce qui favorise la fluidit\u00e9 et la visibilit\u00e9 des composantes de circulation. Ainsi, l\u2019orientation spatiale y est intuitive et le sentiment de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 augment\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>La lumi\u00e8re naturelle joue \u00e9galement un r\u00f4le d\u2019importance quant au confort et au sentiment de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des usagers. Dans l\u2019\u00e9dicule, cette grande transparence et le rythme des arches de b\u00e9ton permettent une entr\u00e9e de lumi\u00e8re naturelle abondante et \u00e9volutive. Puis, m\u00eame en souterrain, deux grands puits de lumi\u00e8re int\u00e9gr\u00e9s aux \u00e9dicules d\u2019EXO permettent des entr\u00e9es de lumi\u00e8re naturelle qui ponctuent le parcours, identifient clairement les acc\u00e8s vers les quais d\u2019EXO, et am\u00e9liorent le sentiment de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des usagers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Une mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 sobre et p\u00e9renne<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Afin de souligner un \u00e9l\u00e9ment ayant contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la signature architecturale forte du r\u00e9seau du m\u00e9tro existant et faire un rappel de ce savoir-faire d\u2019importance, le choix de la structure de b\u00e9ton apparente s\u2019est impos\u00e9. Dans le cadre du projet, une formule sp\u00e9cifique de b\u00e9ton autopla\u00e7ant \u00e0 pigmentation blanche a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9e afin de permettre la r\u00e9alisation de ces arches de b\u00e9ton lisses et claires qui caract\u00e9risent la spatialit\u00e9 et la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9dicule.<\/p>\n<p>Les choix mat\u00e9riels pour l\u2019ensemble du projet, dont le b\u00e9ton apparent, mais \u00e9galement les surfaces de granit, les rev\u00eatements d\u2019acier inoxydable, ainsi que les rev\u00eatements de porcelaine grand format, contribuent \u00e0 la r\u00e9alisation d\u2019un ouvrage sobre et durable, qui \u00e9voluera bien dans le temps et dont les composantes r\u00e9sisteront \u00e0 l\u2019usage intensif du transport collectif.<\/p>\n<p>Des sections de plafond ponctuelles permettent \u00e9galement de zoner les espaces, accompagner le parcours, puis dissimuler les composantes \u00e9lectrom\u00e9caniques afin de d\u00e9gager les zones \u00e0 structure apparente. La strat\u00e9gie d\u2019\u00e9clairage lin\u00e9aire participe au rythme et favorise l\u2019unit\u00e9 architecturale entre les diff\u00e9rentes zones du projet.<\/p>\n<p>Afin de favoriser une harmonie entre les composantes du projet de m\u00eame qu\u2019une unit\u00e9 architecturale am\u00e9liorant l\u2019orientation spatiale des usagers, ces choix de mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tendus autant aux espaces appartenant \u00e0 la STM, qu\u2019\u00e0 ceux d\u2019EXO et du CUSM, une approche ayant n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 la contribution et la collaboration de toutes les parties prenantes.<\/p>\n<p>De plus, \u00e0 la suite d\u2019une \u00e9tude d\u2019int\u00e9gration et d\u2019un processus de s\u00e9lection de l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art auquel les architectes ont particip\u00e9, la mosa\u00efque color\u00e9e con\u00e7ue par l\u2019artiste Patrick Bernatchez a \u00e9t\u00e9 int\u00e9gr\u00e9e \u00e0 trois endroits le long du parcours de la station, et ce dans chacune des zones (STM, Exo, CUSM). Celle-ci contribue donc \u00e0 l\u2019harmonie de l\u2019ensemble en plus de faire \u00e9cho \u00e0 la notion de parcours, ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue comme un r\u00e9cit s\u2019inspirant du d\u00e9placement de l\u2019artiste depuis son atelier vers la station de m\u00e9tro Vend\u00f4me.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Un contexte de r\u00e9alisation complexe<\/span><\/p>\n<p>En plus de faire face \u00e0 un d\u00e9fi d\u2019int\u00e9gration urbaine et fonctionnelle, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de projet a d\u00fb composer avec de nombreuses contraintes d\u2019arrimage entre les diff\u00e9rentes parties prenantes et plusieurs d\u00e9fis techniques. Le projet devait en effet r\u00e9pondre aux attentes de toutes les entit\u00e9s, dont les trois exploitants, mais \u00e9galement les deux arrondissements touch\u00e9s, ainsi que les riverains et les futurs utilisateurs. Un processus de consultation rigoureux a \u00e9t\u00e9 instaur\u00e9 tout au long projet.<\/p>\n<p>De plus, la r\u00e9alisation du projet dans un site aux contraintes op\u00e9rationnelles multiples, notamment la continuit\u00e9 des op\u00e9rations de la station de m\u00e9tro et des voies ferr\u00e9es, a donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 des techniques de mise en \u0153uvre innovantes. Notons par exemple la technique d\u2019installation du tunnel pouss\u00e9 sous les voies ferr\u00e9es, qui a d\u00fb \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en 72 heures afin de limiter les coupures de service. Celui-ci a donc \u00e9t\u00e9 pouss\u00e9 sous les voies par une technique de ripage par autofon\u00e7age, une premi\u00e8re au Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Par ailleurs, certains travaux sur l\u2019\u00e9dicule existant de la station de m\u00e9tro, dont le d\u00e9mant\u00e8lement d\u2019un puits de ventilation et les travaux sur la boucle d\u2019autobus, \u00e9taient \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art de Marcelle Ferron. La verri\u00e8re et la sculpture ont alors \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9plac\u00e9es pour \u00eatre entrepos\u00e9es temporairement et des travaux de restauration sont toujours en cours.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Le d\u00e9veloppement durable comme un pilier du processus<\/span><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ensemble de ces approches de conception et de ce processus de r\u00e9alisation ont \u00e9t\u00e9 accompagn\u00e9s d\u2019une r\u00e9flexion visant l\u2019int\u00e9gration des meilleures pratiques de d\u00e9veloppement durable, et ce pour chacune des phases de son cycle de vie.<\/p>\n<p>En effet, le projet est en lui-m\u00eame une action concr\u00e8te d\u2019am\u00e9lioration de la durabilit\u00e9 de la station Vend\u00f4me et de ses abords. Bien que fondamentalement con\u00e7u pour augmenter l\u2019accessibilit\u00e9 du public aux modes de transports alternatifs, tels que l\u2019autobus, le m\u00e9tro et le train de banlieue, autant que la connectivit\u00e9 aux r\u00e9seaux de pistes cyclables et aux r\u00e9seaux pi\u00e9tonniers conviviaux, le projet a \u00e9galement atteint une certification ENVISION de niveau or de l\u2019Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). Cette derni\u00e8re reconnait l\u2019excellence des projets d\u2019infrastructures \u00e9cologiques et \u00e0 impact positif pour les communaut\u00e9s. Il s\u2019agit de la premi\u00e8re reconnaissance ENVISION pour une station de la STM.<\/p>\n<p>Les efforts soutenus de consultation publique et avec les parties prenantes ont en effet permis l\u2019arrimage du projet dans sa communaut\u00e9, en plus des nombreuses mesures d\u2019att\u00e9nuation des impacts de la construction sur le milieu et l\u2019environnement.<\/p>\n<p>Plusieurs strat\u00e9gies ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en \u0153uvre afin de r\u00e9duire les impacts environnementaux associ\u00e9s aux mat\u00e9riaux pour toute la dur\u00e9e de leur cycle de vie, notamment en lien avec la consommation de ressources et les \u00e9missions associ\u00e9es \u00e0 leur fabrication, puis la capacit\u00e9 de recyclage de ces mat\u00e9riaux.<\/p>\n<p>Parmi les \u00e9l\u00e9ments innovants, notons la composition du b\u00e9ton des trottoirs et de la boucle d\u2019autobus pour laquelle 10 % de la proportion du ciment a \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9e par de la poudre de verre recycl\u00e9 (un produit qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois) afin de r\u00e9duire l\u2019empreinte \u00e9cologique de l\u2019infrastructure. L\u2019utilisation de ce produit exp\u00e9rimental a constitu\u00e9 un projet pilote pour la STM qui sera dor\u00e9navant en mesure de l\u2019utiliser dans l\u2019ensemble de ses infrastructures.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet a \u00e9galement permis la r\u00e9habilitation de terrains contamin\u00e9s, en plus de viser une r\u00e9duction des impacts en op\u00e9ration (mati\u00e8res r\u00e9siduelles, \u00e9conomies d\u2019eau et d\u2019\u00e9nergie, r\u00e9duction des bruits et vibrations). The facade of the new entrance building extends perpendicularly to de Maisonneuve Boulevard in order to assert this new urban entrance and open onto the plaza at the intersection of Vend\u00f4me Avenue. The volume of the building creates an opening at the junction with the existing metro tunnel, allowing it to be attached perpendicularly, with a view to structural and functional optimisation.<\/p>\n<p>Upon approaching the station, a signal canopy welcomes the users and identifies the two entrances to the building, one dedicated to the metro and one allowing direct access to the underground corridor leading to the EXO station and to MUHC. The structural framework, favouring a peripheral alignment of the columns, allows for a completely open plan, which favours the fluidity and visibility of the circulation components. Several accessibility strategies also make up the route, including the positioning of the elevators adjacent to the staircases, which promotes a sense of proximity for the various users.<\/p>\n<p>While the project is fundamentally designed to improve the sustainability of Vendome Station and its surroundings, the project has also achieved a gold level ENVISION certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).
