d\u2019\u00eatre d\u2019un bureau dans le contexte d\u2019un mode hybride de travail et d\u2019une refonte compl\u00e8te du fonctionnement des \u00e9quipes, cons\u00e9quence directe et in\u00e9luctable des profonds changements que la pand\u00e9mie a apport\u00e9 \u00e0 notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Un des impacts les plus visibles du travail hybride est le ratio des places assises. Puisque nos collaborateurs \u00e9taient tous \u00e9quip\u00e9s d\u2019un bureau \u00ab\u00a0priv\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 leur domicile, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de conception identifia assez t\u00f4t dans le processus que le ratio et les typologies de places assises devraient \u00eatre orient\u00e9es vers des espaces de rencontres et de collaboration, et que la mobilit\u00e9 permettait de travailler n\u2019importe o\u00f9 dans le bureau. Le r\u00e9sultat est que l\u2019am\u00e9nagement final serait compos\u00e9 de 30% de postes de travail et 70% de places assises pour des rencontres, pour la collaboration et la socialisation.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s le d\u00e9part, l\u2019\u00e9quipe de conception se fixa comme objectif de cr\u00e9er un espace inclusif, un lieu rassembleur pour nos collaborateurs, nos partenaires et nos clients. Ce lieu serait libre des conventions usuelles d\u2019un am\u00e9nagement de bureau\u00a0(comptoir de r\u00e9ception avec salles de rencontres attenantes, postes en aires ouvertes et bureaux ferm\u00e9s.)<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9quipe imagina un espace qui brouille les fronti\u00e8res entre un lobby d\u2019h\u00f4tel, un atelier de cr\u00e9ation et un loft r\u00e9sidentiel. La tonalit\u00e9 du lieu, que nous avons qualifi\u00e9 de \u00ab\u00a0chaleur nordique\u00a0\u00bb, puise dans la palette de mat\u00e9riaux iconiques qui nous parlent le plus, en tant que collectif\u00a0: le b\u00e9ton, la pierre, le bois et le m\u00e9tal. Ces mat\u00e9riaux, bruts et authentiques, sont balanc\u00e9s par la pr\u00e9sence abondante de v\u00e9g\u00e9tation et le cadrage de vues spectaculaires sur le quartier, particuli\u00e8rement avec la lumi\u00e8re de fin de journ\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Le parcours exp\u00e9rientiel commence d\u00e8s le hall de l\u2019ascenseur au 8<sup>e<\/sup> \u00e9tage. L\u2019ouverture des portes des ascenseurs r\u00e9v\u00e8le un long banc en bois massif r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9 d\u2019un ancien pont ferroviaire adoss\u00e9 \u00e0 mur recouvert de panneaux de b\u00e9ton. Au plancher des carreaux de terrazzo noir et blanc sont un rappel des lobbys d\u2019origines de l\u2019immeuble. L\u2019ambiance est feutr\u00e9e avec un \u00e9clairage rasant sur le mur de b\u00e9ton, r\u00e9v\u00e9lant la texture brute tandis que les murs et le plafond sont peints en aubergine fonc\u00e9. La porte en verre sans cadre r\u00e9v\u00e8le une structure en acier de 26 pieds de long sur laquelle sont d\u00e9pos\u00e9s 32 bacs de plantes \u00e9clair\u00e9es par des bandes de DEL. Cette structure, v\u00e9ritable mur v\u00e9g\u00e9tal, s\u00e9pare le vestiaire du bistro. Le vestiaire est dissimul\u00e9 derri\u00e8re 4 grandes portes en acier roul\u00e9 \u00e0 chaud. De l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 des \u00e9tag\u00e8res en m\u00e9tal se trouve le bistro, un espace multifonction de 1,300 pi2 ceintur\u00e9 des m\u00eames panneaux de b\u00e9ton que le lobby d\u2019ascenseur. \u00c0 la fois galerie d\u2019art, accueil et caf\u00e9, il est ancr\u00e9 par un il\u00f4t central de 29 pieds x 10 pieds recouvert de planches de bois br\u00fbl\u00e9 dans lequel \u0153uvre notre chef de cuisine qui pr\u00e9pare chaque jour des repas vari\u00e9s pour la famille \u00c6difica.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 partir du bistro, les espaces de collaboration et les postes de travails sont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s de part et d\u2019autre du noyau central. Un total de sept (7) salles de rencontres de tailles vari\u00e9es (5 \u00e0 14 places) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9parties sur l\u2019\u00e9tage pour cr\u00e9er des s\u00e9parations physiques entre les six (6) aires de travail. Celles-ci peuvent accueillir des \u00e9quipes de 6 \u00e0 12 personnes sur des ilots de tables blanches, dont 12 ajustables \u00ab\u00a0sit\/stand\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9pos\u00e9s sur un plancher en bois. Des constellations de lamelles de feutre acoustiques flottent au-dessus des ilots de tables, contribuant au confort acoustique et visuel. Ce m\u00eame souci de l\u2019acoustique se retrouve dans les salles de rencontre et les salons pour les appels.\u00a0 Ici, le feutre devient un rev\u00eatement sur les murs et le plafond pour cr\u00e9er un effet saisissant de silence.<\/p>\n<p>La mat\u00e9riauth\u00e8que occupe une place centrale, localis\u00e9e imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du bistro. Cet espace ouvert, et volontairement \u00ab\u00a0foisonnant\u00a0\u00bb, de 680 pi2 sert \u00e0 la fois de lieu de recherche et de brainstorming, avec un ilot central en quartz blanc de pr\u00e8s de 17 pieds de long. Il est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d\u2019un syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9clairage dynamique contr\u00f4l\u00e9 par Bluetooth pour pouvoir \u00e9valuer les \u00e9chantillons de mat\u00e9riaux sous diff\u00e9rentes temp\u00e9ratures d\u2019\u00e9clairage.<\/p>\n<p>Pour soutenir la mission de l\u2019entreprise, de nombreuses strat\u00e9gies ont \u00e9t\u00e9 implant\u00e9es pour int\u00e9grer le bien-\u00eatre et la r\u00e9silience dans les am\u00e9nagements\u00a0: la planification des espaces optimise des parcours de circulation en boucles tandis que le syst\u00e8me de ventilation haute performance s\u2019assure de la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019air. De plus, une application permet de r\u00e9server les postes de travail et d\u00e9couvrir qui sera au bureau.<\/p>\n<p>En fin de parcours, dans l\u2019annexe nord de l\u2019immeuble, se trouve l\u2019agora. Cet espace de 2150 pi2 permet d\u2019accueillir confortablement pr\u00e8s d\u2019une centaine de convives. Une longue table communale de 28 pieds am\u00e9nag\u00e9e le long des fen\u00eatres c\u00f4t\u00e9 nord sert de lieu de rassemblement pour les repas et les rencontres d\u2019\u00e9quipe. Lieu de rencontre, salle \u00e0 manger, bar \u00e0 cocktails et loft multifonction, la qualit\u00e9 de la lumi\u00e8re et la beaut\u00e9 des points de vue en fait un espace de choix pour y travailler tel un \u00ab\u00a0troisi\u00e8me lieu\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>After 11 years in its offices at 606 Cathcart, and in the midst of the pandemic, the opportunity to renew the lease was a catalyst for deeper reflection on the purpose of an office in the context of hybrid work and a complete rethinking of how teams function as a direct and inescapable consequence of the profound changes that the pandemic has brought to our society.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of the most visible impacts of hybrid work is the seating ratio. Since our employees were all equipped with a \u00ab\u00a0private\u00a0\u00bb office at home, the design team identified early on in the process that the seating ratio and typologies should be geared towards meeting and collaboration spaces, and that mobility allowed for working anywhere in the office. The result is that the final layout would be composed of 30% workstations and 70% seating for meetings, collaboration and socialization.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the outset, the design team had a goal to create an inclusive space, a gathering place for our employees, partners and clients. This space would be free of the usual conventions of office design (reception desk with adjoining meeting rooms, open-plan workstations and closed offices).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The team imagined a space that blurs the boundaries between a hotel lobby, a creative studio and a residential loft. The tone of the space, which we described as \u00ab\u00a0northern warmth,\u00a0\u00bb draws on the iconic material palette that speaks to us most as a collective: concrete, stone, wood, and metal. These materials, raw and authentic, are balanced by the abundant presence of vegetation and the framing of spectacular views of the neighborhood, especially with the late day light.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The experiential journey begins in the elevator lobby on the 8th floor. The opening of the elevator doors reveals a long solid wood bench salvaged from an old railroad bridge leaning against a wall dressed with concrete panels. On the floor, black and white terrazzo tiles are a reminder of the building&rsquo;s original lobbies. The atmosphere is muted with low lighting on the concrete wall, revealing the rough texture while the walls and ceiling are painted in dark aubergine. The frameless glass door reveals a 26-foot-long steel structure on which 32 planters are placed, lit by LED strips. This structure, a true green wall, separates the checkroom from the bistro. The checkroom is hidden behind 4 large hot rolled steel doors. On the other side of the metal shelves is the bistro, a 1,300 sq. ft. multifunctional space surrounded by the same concrete panels as the elevator lobby. Part art gallery, part reception area and part caf\u00e9, it is anchored by a 29&prime; x 10&prime; central island covered with burnt wood planks in which our chef works to prepare a variety of meals for the \u00c6difica family every day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the bistro, collaborative spaces and workstations are deployed on either side of the central core. A total of seven (7) meeting rooms of various sizes (5 to 14 seats) have been distributed on the floor to create physical separations between the six (6) work areas. These can accommodate teams of 6 to 12 people on islands of white tables, 12 of which are adjustable \u00ab\u00a0sit\/stand\u00a0\u00bb, set on a wooden floor. Constellations of acoustic felt slats float above the table islands, contributing to acoustic and visual comfort. This same concern for acoustics is found in the meeting rooms and call lounges.\u00a0 Here, the felt becomes a covering on the walls and ceiling to create a striking effect of silence.<\/p>\n<p>The material library occupies a central place, located immediately adjacent to the bistro. This open, intentionally \u00ab\u00a0crowded\u00a0\u00bb 680 sq. ft. space serves as both a research and brainstorming area, with a central white quartz island nearly 17 feet long. It is equipped with a Bluetooth-controlled dynamic lighting system so that material samples can be evaluated under different lighting temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To support the company&rsquo;s mission, numerous strategies were implemented to incorporate wellness and resilience into the design: space planning optimizes looping circulation paths while the high-performance ventilation system ensures air quality. In addition, an app allows you to reserve workstations and find out who will be in the office.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the tour, in the north annex of the building, is the agora. This 2150 sq. ft. space can comfortably accommodate nearly 100 guests. A long 28-foot communal table set along the north side windows serves as a gathering place for meals and team meetings. Three lounges and a cluster of bar height tables with stools complete the layout. De l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 des \u00e9tag\u00e8res en m\u00e9tal se trouve le bistro, un espace multifonction de 1,300 pi2 ceintur\u00e9 des m\u00eames panneaux de b\u00e9ton que le lobby d\u2019ascenseur. \u00c0 la fois galerie d\u2019art, accueil et caf\u00e9, il est ancr\u00e9 par un il\u00f4t central de 29 pieds x 10 pieds recouvert de planches de bois br\u00fbl\u00e9 dans lequel \u0153uvre notre chef de cuisine qui pr\u00e9pare chaque jour des repas vari\u00e9s pour la famille \u00c6difica.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 partir du bistro, les espaces de collaboration et les postes de travails sont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s de part et d\u2019autre du noyau central. Un total de sept (7) salles de rencontres de tailles vari\u00e9es (5 \u00e0 14 places) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9parties sur l\u2019\u00e9tage pour cr\u00e9er des s\u00e9parations physiques entre les six (6) aires de travail. Celles-ci peuvent accueillir des \u00e9quipes de 6 \u00e0 12 personnes sur des ilots de tables blanches, dont 12 ajustables \u00ab\u00a0sit\/stand\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9pos\u00e9s sur un plancher en bois. Des constellations de lamelles de feutre acoustiques flottent au-dessus des ilots de tables, contribuant au confort acoustique et visuel. Ce m\u00eame souci de l\u2019acoustique se retrouve dans les salles de rencontre et les salons pour les appels.\u00a0 Ici, le feutre devient un rev\u00eatement sur les murs et le plafond pour cr\u00e9er un effet saisissant de silence.<\/p>\n<p>La mat\u00e9riauth\u00e8que occupe une place centrale, localis\u00e9e imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du bistro. Cet espace ouvert, et volontairement \u00ab\u00a0foisonnant\u00a0\u00bb, de 680 pi2 sert \u00e0 la fois de lieu de recherche et de brainstorming, avec un ilot central en quartz blanc de pr\u00e8s de 17 pieds de long. Il est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d\u2019un syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9clairage dynamique contr\u00f4l\u00e9 par Bluetooth pour pouvoir \u00e9valuer les \u00e9chantillons de mat\u00e9riaux sous diff\u00e9rentes temp\u00e9ratures d\u2019\u00e9clairage.<\/p>\n<p>Pour soutenir la mission de l\u2019entreprise, de nombreuses strat\u00e9gies ont \u00e9t\u00e9 implant\u00e9es pour int\u00e9grer le bien-\u00eatre et la r\u00e9silience dans les am\u00e9nagements\u00a0: la planification des espaces optimise des parcours de circulation en boucles tandis que le syst\u00e8me de ventilation haute performance s\u2019assure de la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019air. De plus, une application permet de r\u00e9server les postes de travail et d\u00e9couvrir qui sera au bureau.<\/p>\n<p>En fin de parcours, dans l\u2019annexe nord de l\u2019immeuble, se trouve l\u2019agora. Cet espace de 2150 pi2 permet d\u2019accueillir confortablement pr\u00e8s d\u2019une centaine de convives. Une longue table communale de 28 pieds am\u00e9nag\u00e9e le long des fen\u00eatres c\u00f4t\u00e9 nord sert de lieu de rassemblement pour les repas et les rencontres d\u2019\u00e9quipe. Trois salons et une grappe de tables hauteur bar avec tabourets compl\u00e8tent l\u2019am\u00e9nagement. Lieu de rencontre, salle \u00e0 manger, bar \u00e0 cocktails et loft multifonction, la qualit\u00e9 de la lumi\u00e8re et la beaut\u00e9 des points de vue en fait un espace de choix pour y travailler tel un \u00ab\u00a0troisi\u00e8me lieu\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>After 11 years in its offices at 606 Cathcart, and in the midst of the pandemic, the opportunity to renew the lease was a catalyst for deeper reflection on the purpose of an office in the context of hybrid work and a complete rethinking of how teams function as a direct and inescapable consequence of the profound changes that the pandemic has brought to our society.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of the most visible impacts of hybrid work is the seating ratio. Since our employees were all equipped with a \u00ab\u00a0private\u00a0\u00bb office at home, the design team identified early on in the process that the seating ratio and typologies should be geared towards meeting and collaboration spaces, and that mobility allowed for working anywhere in the office. The result is that the final layout would be composed of 30% workstations and 70% seating for meetings, collaboration and socialization.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the outset, the design team had a goal to create an inclusive space, a gathering place for our employees, partners and clients. This space would be free of the usual conventions of office design (reception desk with adjoining meeting rooms, open-plan workstations and closed offices).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The team imagined a space that blurs the boundaries between a hotel lobby, a creative studio and a residential loft. The tone of the space, which we described as \u00ab\u00a0northern warmth,\u00a0\u00bb draws on the iconic material palette that speaks to us most as a collective: concrete, stone, wood, and metal. These materials, raw and authentic, are balanced by the abundant presence of vegetation and the framing of spectacular views of the neighborhood, especially with the late day light.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The experiential journey begins in the elevator lobby on the 8th floor. The opening of the elevator doors reveals a long solid wood bench salvaged from an old railroad bridge leaning against a wall dressed with concrete panels. On the floor, black and white terrazzo tiles are a reminder of the building&rsquo;s original lobbies. The atmosphere is muted with low lighting on the concrete wall, revealing the rough texture while the walls and ceiling are painted in dark aubergine. The frameless glass door reveals a 26-foot-long steel structure on which 32 planters are placed, lit by LED strips. This structure, a true green wall, separates the checkroom from the bistro. The checkroom is hidden behind 4 large hot rolled steel doors. On the other side of the metal shelves is the bistro, a 1,300 sq. ft. multifunctional space surrounded by the same concrete panels as the elevator lobby. Part art gallery, part reception area and part caf\u00e9, it is anchored by a 29&prime; x 10&prime; central island covered with burnt wood planks in which our chef works to prepare a variety of meals for the \u00c6difica family every day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the bistro, collaborative spaces and workstations are deployed on either side of the central core. A total of seven (7) meeting rooms of various sizes (5 to 14 seats) have been distributed on the floor to create physical separations between the six (6) work areas. These can accommodate teams of 6 to 12 people on islands of white tables, 12 of which are adjustable \u00ab\u00a0sit\/stand\u00a0\u00bb, set on a wooden floor. Constellations of acoustic felt slats float above the table islands, contributing to acoustic and visual comfort. This same concern for acoustics is found in the meeting rooms and call lounges.\u00a0 Here, the felt becomes a covering on the walls and ceiling to create a striking effect of silence.<\/p>\n<p>The material library occupies a central place, located immediately adjacent to the bistro. This open, intentionally \u00ab\u00a0crowded\u00a0\u00bb 680 sq. ft. space serves as both a research and brainstorming area, with a central white quartz island nearly 17 feet long. It is equipped with a Bluetooth-controlled dynamic lighting system so that material samples can be evaluated under different lighting temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To support the company&rsquo;s mission, numerous strategies were implemented to incorporate wellness and resilience into the design: space planning optimizes looping circulation paths while the high-performance ventilation system ensures air quality. In addition, an app allows you to reserve workstations and find out who will be in the office.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the tour, in the north annex of the building, is the agora. This 2150 sq. ft. space can comfortably accommodate nearly 100 guests. A long 28-foot communal table set along the north side windows serves as a gathering place for meals and team meetings. Three lounges and a cluster of bar height tables with stools complete the layout.
