Ce quartier creux de l\\\u2019apr\u00e8s-guerre s\\\u2019est transform\u00e9 progressivement, d\u00e9pass\u00e9 par des d\u00e9veloppements r\u00e9cents qui misent sur la taille plut\u00f4t que sur la qualit\u00e9 de l\\\u2019espace. Le concept visait \u00e0 r\u00e9duire la masse d\\\u2019un projet assez important, pour qu\\\u2019il s\\\u2019ins\u00e8re proportionnellement dans le quartier. Il propose un mod\u00e8le alternatif dans les limites d\\\u2019une r\u00e9glementation stricte.<\/p>\n<p>Ce projet s\\\u2019engage dans un exercice de relations spatiales pour acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer les programmes de la maison. Il utilise la conception en demi-niveaux pour suivre la topographie de la colline et pour relier les plaques de demi-\u00e9tage. Les plaques forment des adjacences, \u00e0 la fois visuelles et fonctionnelles, permettant ainsi de doubler l\\\u2019utilit\u00e9 d\\\u2019une organisation autrement diss\u00e9qu\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>La conception vise \u00e0 minimiser les distances physiques et psychologiques entre les diff\u00e9rents compartiments d\\\u2019un ensemble r\u00e9sidentiel. L\\\u2019objectif \u00e9tait de r\u00e9duire le temps n\u00e9cessaire pour acc\u00e9der \u00e0 d\\\u2019autres espaces du programme. La conception a d\\\u2019abord \u00e9t\u00e9 abord\u00e9e sur un plan horizontal, en \u00e9liminant autant de murs et de barri\u00e8res verticales que possible. Il en r\u00e9sulte des espaces reli\u00e9s les uns aux autres, mais non cloisonn\u00e9s, \u00e0 l\\\u2019exception des zones n\u00e9cessitant une intimit\u00e9 d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9e. Cela signifiait une connexion visuelle directe d\\\u2019un espace \u00e0 la plupart des autres espaces de la maison, ce qui raccourcissait le temps d\\\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\\\u2019information dans d\\\u2019autres parties de la maison, r\u00e9duisant ainsi les distances perceptives.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un deuxi\u00e8me temps, la conception a abord\u00e9 le probl\u00e8me physiquement, en examinant la structure dans le plan vertical. Les plaques de plancher de la maison ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9plac\u00e9es verticalement en p\u00e9riph\u00e9rie d\\\u2019un vide central et reli\u00e9es par des ligaments fibreux, cr\u00e9ant ainsi des demi-plans. L\\\u2019acc\u00e8s aux autres \u00e9tages de la maison a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9duit de moiti\u00e9 par rapport \u00e0 une structure traditionnelle \u00e0 \u00e9tage complet. Une fois de plus, en r\u00e9duisant le temps, les distances ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9duites et ont permis une conception compacte.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 inspir\u00e9 par la conception automobile rationalis\u00e9e, qui a propos\u00e9 des performances cach\u00e9es pour chaque technologie dans la maison. Le concept int\u00e9rieur \u00e9tait bas\u00e9 sur une approche utilitaire des mat\u00e9riaux et des palettes, en contraste avec l\\\u2019approche ambiante globale du design, o\u00f9 l\\\u2019espace l\\\u2019emporte sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9. Une cour cr\u00e9\u00e9e par l\\\u2019\u00e9clairage naturel des chambres inf\u00e9rieures \u00e0 partir du podium enterr\u00e9 sert \u00e9galement de syst\u00e8me de filtration des eaux de pluie pour l\\\u2019ensemble du site. Le projet respecte ou d\u00e9passe les normes strictes de la Californie en mati\u00e8re de construction \u00e9cologique et d\\\u2019\u00e9conomie d\\\u2019\u00e9nergie, telles que les syst\u00e8mes de plomberie \u00e0 faible d\u00e9bit, les plantations tol\u00e9rantes \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse, la filtration de l\\\u2019eau de pluie, l\\\u2019int\u00e9gration photovolta\u00efque, l\\\u2019enveloppe du b\u00e2timent et le vitrage \u00e0 haute efficacit\u00e9, l\\\u2019\u00e9valuation HERS du syst\u00e8me m\u00e9canique et plus encore.<\/p>\n<p>Les mat\u00e9riaux int\u00e9rieurs sp\u00e9cifi\u00e9s provenaient de sources naturelles et \u00e9taient conformes aux normes de faible teneur en COV. La palette de conception a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9duite \u00e0 une s\u00e9lection enti\u00e8rement naturelle, comme le pl\u00e2tre mica, les planchers de bois franc et la pierre naturelle. Le projet a recherch\u00e9 des mat\u00e9riaux minimaux, \u00e0 faible impact et \u00e9prouv\u00e9s, r\u00e9alisant un \u00e9quilibre entre la durabilit\u00e9, la facilit\u00e9 d\\\u2019entretien et la conception responsable.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>Perched on a hilltop in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Los Angeles basin, the project gently lands a dynamic building on top of a buried podium that replicates the natural topography that was once there before the area was subdivided for development. This hollow post-war neighborhood has been transforming gradually, overtaken by recent developments that rely on size rather than spatial quality. The concept set out to reduce the massing of a rather large project, for it to lodge within the neighborhood proportionally. It proposes an alternative model within the confines of stringent regulations.<\/p>\n<p>This project engages an exercise in spatial relationships to accelerate the programs of the house. It utilizes the split-level design to follow this topography of the hill and to connect the floor half-story plates. The plates form adjacencies, both visual and functional therefore allowing twice the utility of an otherwise dissected organization.<\/p>\n<p>The design set out to minimize the physical and psychological distances between different compartments in a residential assemblage. The objective was to decrease the amount of time it takes to access other spaces in the program. To achieve this, a two-fold approach was undertaken.<\/p>\n<p>The design was first approached on a horizontal plane removing as many walls and vertical barriers as possible. The resulting condition was spaces that related to each other, but were not partitioned, except for areas that required deliberate privacy. This meant direct visual connection from one space to most other spaces in the house, which shortened the time of accessing information in other parts of the house, therefore reducing perceptual distances.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly the design approached the problem physically, looking at the structure in the vertical plane. The floor plates of the house were shifted vertically peripheral to a central void and connected by fibrous ligaments, creating half planes. Access to other stories in the house became one-half the distance of a traditional full story structure. Once again, by reducing time, distances were reduced and made for a compact design.<\/p>\n<p>The project was inspired by streamline automotive design, which proposed concealed performance for every technology in the house. Il utilise la conception en demi-niveaux pour suivre la topographie de la colline et pour relier les plaques de demi-\u00e9tage. Les plaques forment des adjacences, \u00e0 la fois visuelles et fonctionnelles, permettant ainsi de doubler l\\\u2019utilit\u00e9 d\\\u2019une organisation autrement diss\u00e9qu\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>La conception vise \u00e0 minimiser les distances physiques et psychologiques entre les diff\u00e9rents compartiments d\\\u2019un ensemble r\u00e9sidentiel. This hollow post-war neighborhood has been transforming gradually, overtaken by recent developments that rely on size rather than spatial quality. The concept set out to reduce the massing of a rather large project, for it to lodge within the neighborhood proportionally. It proposes an alternative model within the confines of stringent regulations.<\/p>\n<p>This project engages an exercise in spatial relationships to accelerate the programs of the house. It utilizes the split-level design to follow this topography of the hill and to connect the floor half-story plates. The plates form adjacencies, both visual and functional therefore allowing twice the utility of an otherwise dissected organization.<\/p>\n<p>The design set out to minimize the physical and psychological distances between different compartments in a residential assemblage. The objective was to decrease the amount of time it takes to access other spaces in the program. To achieve this, a two-fold approach was undertaken.<\/p>\n<p>The design was first approached on a horizontal plane removing as many walls and vertical barriers as possible. The resulting condition was spaces that related to each other, but were not partitioned, except for areas that required deliberate privacy. This meant direct visual connection from one space to most other spaces in the house, which shortened the time of accessing information in other parts of the house, therefore reducing perceptual distances.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly the design approached the problem physically, looking at the structure in the vertical plane. The floor plates of the house were shifted vertically peripheral to a central void and connected by fibrous ligaments, creating half planes. Access to other stories in the house became one-half the distance of a traditional full story structure. Once again, by reducing time, distances were reduced and made for a compact design.<\/p>\n<p>The project was inspired by streamline automotive design, which proposed concealed performance for every technology in the house.
