abords de l\u2019autoroute 15, le Sheraton Laval constitue un \u00e9l\u00e9ment distinctif du paysage lavallois. Nous voulions qu\u2019il se d\u00e9marque tout en v\u00e9hiculant les attributs de la nouvelle identit\u00e9 de marque des h\u00f4tels Sheraton; sobri\u00e9t\u00e9, \u00e9l\u00e9gance avec une allure r\u00e9solument contemporaine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le Sheraton fait peau neuve <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019enveloppe ext\u00e9rieure exigeait une modernisation sur le plan esth\u00e9tique, fonctionnel et visuel. Le concept de cette nouvelle enveloppe repose sur la notion de rythme et la composition des fa\u00e7ades a \u00e9t\u00e9 retravaill\u00e9e sur cette base. Un rev\u00eatement de blocs de b\u00e9ton gris clair cr\u00e9e un plan se d\u00e9tachant du b\u00e2timent en offrant une sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 et un aspect moderne \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9difice. Des panneaux m\u00e9talliques gris fonc\u00e9 adjacents aux fen\u00eatres des chambres (en alternance selon les c\u00f4t\u00e9s) viennent rythmer la grande fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019entr\u00e9e et son d\u00e9barcad\u00e8re se d\u00e9tachent des fa\u00e7ades plus claires par un volume distinct, habill\u00e9 d\u2019un rev\u00eatement compos\u00e9 de panneaux textur\u00e9s agissant tel un bloc accent servant de fond aux nouvelles enseignes du Sheraton.<\/p>\n<p>Ce volume de pierres reconstitu\u00e9 de 5mm sur une ossature d\u2019aluminium (premi\u00e8re application de ce mat\u00e9riel en fa\u00e7ade au Qu\u00e9bec), se poursuit en application horizontale au soffite du d\u00e9barcad\u00e8re. Un grand plafond lumineux s\u2019inscrit dans le volume marquant l\u2019entr\u00e9e et participe avec \u00e9l\u00e9gance \u00e0 l\u2019accueil des clients. Compos\u00e9 de panneaux m\u00e9talliques r\u00e9tro\u00e9clair\u00e9s avec une perforation sur mesure, le motif cr\u00e9e un lien avec le rev\u00eatement des colonnes lumineuses int\u00e9rieures.<\/p>\n<p>La nouvelle enveloppe a permis de rafra\u00eechir l\u2019apparence de l\u2019h\u00f4tel, mais \u00e9galement, en augmentant la profondeur des linteaux, d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la performance de l\u2019enveloppe. La nouvelle \u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 et les nouvelles fen\u00eatres offrent un meilleur rendement \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et une s\u00e9paration acoustique efficaces pour les chambres compte tenu de la pr\u00e9sence de l\u2019autoroute adjacente.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plus d\u2019espace, plus de flexibilit\u00e9 et une fluidit\u00e9 des circulations <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019explosion des demandes pour des conf\u00e9rences, des c\u00e9l\u00e9brations ainsi qu\u2019une \u00e9volution dans la complexit\u00e9 des types d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements demandaient une adaptation du Centre des Congr\u00e8s (CC) \u00e0 ces nouvelles r\u00e9alit\u00e9s. Le Sheraton Laval ainsi que le Hilton recevant \u00e0 eux seuls 80% des \u00e9v\u00e9nements se tenant dans toute l\u2019agglom\u00e9ration lavalloise, il devenait n\u00e9cessaire pour notre client de bonifier la qualit\u00e9 de son offre.<\/p>\n<p>Le CC, con\u00e7u \u00e0 l\u2019origine comme un agrandissement distinct et non comme une extension de l\u2019h\u00f4tel, poss\u00e9dait des liens complexes, des espaces enclav\u00e9s et s\u00e9par\u00e9s par les aires administratives consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4tel. La connectivit\u00e9 entre l\u2019h\u00f4tel et le CC se concr\u00e9tisait par un simple corridor d\u2019acc\u00e8s en retrait cr\u00e9ant une circulation peu fluide et non intuitive. Dark grey metal panels adjacent to the guest-room windows (alternating on each side) create a rhythm to the large facade.<\/p>\n<p>The entrance and drop-off zone stand out from the lighter facades with a distinct volume, clad in textured panel cladding that acts as a backdrop for the new Sheraton signage.<\/p>\n<p>This volume of 5mm stone reconstituted on an aluminum frame (the first facade application of this material in Quebec), continues horizontally at the soffit of the main entrance. A large luminous ceiling is part of the volume marking the entrance and is an elegant way to welcome customers. Composed of backlit metal panels with a custom perforation, the pattern establishes a link with the cladding of the interior light columns.<\/p>\n<p>The new envelope not only freshens up the appearance of the hotel but also, by increasing the depth of the lintels, improves the performance of the envelope. The new envelope and windows provide better energy efficiency and effective acoustic isolation for the rooms given the presence of the adjacent highway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More space, more flexibility and fluidity of circulation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The explosion of requests for conferences and ceremonies, as well as the evolving complexity of the types of events, called for an overhaul of the Convention Center (CC) to adapt to these new realities. As the Sheraton Laval and the Hilton alone host 80% of the events held in the Laval agglomeration, it became necessary for our client to improve the quality of its offerings.<\/p>\n<p>The CC, originally designed as a separate addition rather than an extension of the hotel, had complex connections, enclosed spaces, and was separated by administrative areas dedicated to the hotel. Connectivity between the hotel and the CC was provided through a single recessed access corridor creating an awkward and non-intuitive circulation. The entrance to the CC was a narrow lobby offering no reception area, making it difficult to manage multiple groups.<\/p>\n<p>The 900-square-meter expansion consists primarily of a multipurpose room and the main floor foyer allowing for dozens of possible configurations to accommodate the volume and new complexities of events.
