Nestled within the Monet\u2019s painter\u2019s palette inspiration the gardens consist of a reception hall and function building that appear as a historical post and beam timber barn clad with reclaimed barn boards and curtain wall glazing. Throughout the garden wedding ceremonial spaces, benches, and recreational activities are gracefully appointed providing individual experiences for those who visit. The flexibility of the design of the Gardens provides both public accessibility and privately usable spaces creating a uniquely blended public and private realm experience. From Giverny, France, to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, the two worlds are brought together by The Gardens inspired by French impressionist artist Claude Monet. The architecture summons you to walk under its arch or over a bridge presenting a sophisticated experience. Walking the Pillar and Post site gives the impression that you are meandering around Monet’s painter’s palette over a century ago. Colour, texture, water, harmony, tone, and composition are cherished as you sense the place and explore the space.<\/p>\n<p>The overall land use of The Gardens at Pillar and Post is a garden intertwined with wedding and special event spaces. Several wedding spaces and photo opportunities were created throughout the gardens, including adjacent to a large pond and waterfall.\u00a0 There are two main buildings on the site, the first is a wedding pavilion constructed to appear as a reclaimed timber post and beam barn used for events, private functions and weddings. The second is a concession area building consisting of public washrooms and an outdoor walk-up bar.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>The gardens are nestled several blocks from downtown Niagara-On-The-Lake\u2019s queen-picton street tourism strip on the entire city block surrounded by King Street., John Street. West., Anne Street., and Regent Street. The existing Pillar and Post Inn and Spa of Vintage Hotels juxtaposes the front entrance to the gardens creating a harmonious synergy of access to the gardens and hotel entrances. The surrounding residential fabric is sensitively buffered by means of a red brick garden wall around the perimeter of the gardens. Historic Butler\u2019s Barracks, and Randwood Estates are steps away from the Gardens.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>The Gardens at Pillar and Post underwent zoning by-law amendment and site plan approval planning applications and approvals with the Town of Niagara-On-The-Lake.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>Although parking demand for the site is minimal based on the majority of the design being dominated by landscaping as noted in the transportation demand management features parking was incorporated adjacent to the gardens to ensure a cohesive parking requirement.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>As part of the Gardens proposal the proposal added a screened surface parking area to cover the demand of both the function spaces within the Gardens as well as overflow for the existing Pillar and Post Inn and Spa.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p>Several unique and innovative design features were created on the site, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Large pond with faux row boat to pay homage to Monet\u2019s gardens in Giverny, France<\/li>\n<li>Waterfall feature with boardwalk<\/li>\n<li>Rose garden with ornamental trellises<\/li>\n<li>Artificial turf area that doubles as a skating rink in the winter months<\/li>\n<li>Several large tree specimens were spaded into the garden spaces for instant mature canopy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","original":""}],"different_jury_text":true,"different_category_text":false},"laureats":[{"cat_id":3325,"cat_id_laureat":3890,"laureat":"Certification OR"}],"contest_id":"97334","contest_title":"GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN \u2013 16e \u00e9dition","firms":[{"name":"ACK Architects","website":"ackarchitects.com","category":"","category_tax":2744,"category_label":"Architecte"}],"user":{"email":"haig@seferiandesign.com","first_name":"Haig","last_name":"Seferian"},"doc_texts_web":{"fr":"<p>Art.
