La r\u00e9ponse conceptuelle fut de relier le nouveau b\u00e2timent d\u2019un \u00e9tage avec des corridors de lien dynamiques consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme des passages pi\u00e9tons au sens du code.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un programme riche et orient\u00e9 sur la polyvalence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Afin de doter l\u2019\u00e9cole de tous les locaux r\u00e9pondant aux besoins multiples du client, les architectes ont opt\u00e9 pour la polyvalence des espaces, offrant ainsi la possibilit\u00e9 de transformer certaines pi\u00e8ces pour gagner en superficie. C\u2019est ainsi que les salles de classes th\u00e9oriques se transforment en restaurant ouvert \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e de l\u2019agrandissement se retrouvent ainsi l\u2019ensemble des locaux n\u00e9cessaires, soit une nouvelle salle de restaurant divisible en trois parties et se transformant en classes, une nouvelle cuisine compl\u00e8te desservant le restaurant, un nouvel atelier\/laboratoire polyvalent, un atelier de p\u00e2tisserie-chocolaterie et sa zone de cuisson, une boutique pour vendre les produits de la p\u00e2tisserie et les plats de traiteur du restaurant, une salle de travail pour les professeurs, des vestiaires et w.c. pour les \u00e9tudiants, un magasin g\u00e9n\u00e9ral d\u2019entreposage de produits secs incluant une r\u00e9ception des marchandises ainsi que des chambres froides pour les deux ateliers de restaurants, un local pour l\u2019entreposage temporaire et l\u2019\u00e9vacuation des d\u00e9chets, du recyclage et du compostage, des locaux d\u2019entretien m\u00e9nager. Les locaux techniques de m\u00e9canique et \u00e9lectrique se situent quant \u00e0 eux \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tage de l\u2019agrandissement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mise de l\u2019avant du bois<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En plus d\u2019\u00eatre modulables, les salles de classe sont uniques en leur genre car elles poss\u00e8dent une structure apparente en bois au plafond, ce qui se fait tr\u00e8s rarement dans une \u00e9cole en raison des contraintes li\u00e9es au Code du b\u00e2timent. Cette structure apporte une contribution optimale \u00e0 la r\u00e9ussite scolaire en faisant profiter les \u00e9l\u00e8ves des biens faits de la biophilie sur une p\u00e9riode prolong\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>En classant le b\u00e2timent comme combustible, les architectes ont privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 l\u2019utilisation du bois au maximum, entre autres par la structure mixte mise en place\u00a0: une structure l\u00e9g\u00e8re en bois pour les cloisons int\u00e9rieures et ext\u00e9rieures, des fermes en bois et du gros bois d\u2019\u0153uvre. Les colonnes ext\u00e9rieures, certaines colonnes int\u00e9rieures, les poutres et le pontage dans le secteur des classes de classes sont en bois apparent, tandis que les colonnes du corridor menant aux classes pr\u00e9sentent une g\u00e9om\u00e9trie en V particuli\u00e8re, qui donne un effet magistral. Des finitions en bois sont incluses dans tous les espaces int\u00e9rieurs\u00a0: certaines portes sont en bois, des bancs sont r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en lamell\u00e9-coll\u00e9, du mobilier a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en contreplaqu\u00e9 recouvert d\u2019un placage de vrai bois et enfin des plafonds acoustiques en lattes de bois furent ins\u00e9r\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Int\u00e9gration du b\u00e2ti \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les nouvelles g\u00e9n\u00e9rations d\u2019\u00e9coles se veulent \u00eatre inclusives et ancr\u00e9es dans la communaut\u00e9 et c\u2019est pourquoi le concept d\u2019implantation de restaurant public a pris tout son sens dans le projet. L\u2019\u00e9cole propose, au travers de son restaurant, des menus vari\u00e9s ouverts au grand public dans un espace moderne, sobre et lumineux, le tout concoct\u00e9 et servi par les \u00e9tudiants m\u00eames de l\u2019\u00e9tablissement. \u00c9galement, un magasin int\u00e9gr\u00e9 au b\u00e2timent permettant de diffuser l\u2019art culinaire des \u00e9l\u00e8ves \u00e0 la population par la vente libre des produits d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s. Ce point de services con\u00e7u de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 rendre l\u2019espace chaleureux, convivial et rassembleur, devient un lieu incontournable dans la routine quotidienne des familles et personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es du quartier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La conception des espaces renforce la fonction m\u00eame du b\u00e2timent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En dernier lieu, la conception des espaces de ce projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 renforcer la fonction m\u00eame du b\u00e2timent. L\u2019\u00e9tablissement \u00e9tant avant tout une \u00e9cole, donc un lieu de diffusion de l\u2019apprentissage, les espaces ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pens\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 exposer le travail des \u00e9tudiants gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des sections fenestr\u00e9es donnant dans les ateliers de cuisine. La grande fenestration ouvre \u00e0 la curiosit\u00e9, au partage d\u2019exp\u00e9rience d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9 mais permet \u00e9galement de faire profiter \u00e0 ceux de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur d\u2019une entr\u00e9e optimale de la lumi\u00e8re naturelle, indispensable au bien-\u00eatre scolaire. \u00c9galement la coloration pimpante du projet rappelle les saveurs, le go\u00fbt, les aliments et les parfums souvent utilis\u00e9s dans ce secteur d\u2019activit\u00e9. Le dynamisme cr\u00e9\u00e9 au travers de cette palette color\u00e9e est une toile de fond propice aux apprentissages des jeunes. Enfin le rev\u00eatement m\u00e9tallique cuivr\u00e9 est un clin d\u2019\u0153il aux chaudrons utilis\u00e9s en cuisine, tout en permettant d\u2019int\u00e9grer les coloris des b\u00e2timents existants.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>The new Centre Alessa expansion at CFP Paul-Rousseau forms a link between the existing St-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric and Marcel-Proulx pavilions and allows the school\u2019s students access to all the services of the main pavilion, namely the student dining room and the CFP administrative area. The location between these two existing buildings built in the early 1950\u2019s was an exciting design challenge, as this configuration requires the connection to be made through existing spaces that need to be rearranged and relocated. The conceptual response was to connect the new one-story building with dynamic connecting corridors considered code-wise pedestrian walkways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A rich, versatility-oriented program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to provide the school with all the space to meet the client\u2019s multiple needs, the architects opted for the versatility of the spaces, offering the possibility of transforming some rooms to gain more square footage. This is how the theoretical classrooms are transformed into a restaurant open to the community.<\/p>\n<p>On the first floor of the expansion are thus all the necessary spaces, including a new restaurant room divisible into three parts and transforming into classrooms, a new full kitchen serving the restaurant, a new multipurpose workshop\/laboratory, a pastry-chocolate workshop and its cooking area, a store to sell the restaurant\u2019s pastry and catering products, a workroom for the teachers, locker rooms and w.c. for students, a general dry goods store including a goods reception area and cold rooms for the two restaurant workshops, a room for temporary storage and disposal of waste, recycling and composting, housekeeping rooms. As for the mechanical and electrical technical rooms, they are located on the second floor of the expansion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Front and center with wood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to being modular, the classrooms are unique in that they have an exposed wood structure on the ceiling, which is very rarely done in a school due to building code constraints. This structure makes an optimal contribution to academic success by providing students with the benefits of biophilia over an extended period of time.<\/p>\n<p>By classifying the building as combustible, the architects favored the use of wood to the maximum extent possible, among other things through the mixed structure implemented: a light wood structure for interior and exterior partitions, wood trusses and heavy timber. The exterior columns, some interior columns, beams and decking in the classroom area are made of exposed wood, while the columns in the corridor leading to the classrooms have a particular V-shaped geometry, which gives a masterful effect. Wooden finishes are included in all interior spaces: some doors are made of wood, benches are made of glulam, furniture was made of plywood covered with real wood veneer and finally acoustic ceilings made of wood slats were inserted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Integration of the building into the community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New generations of schools are meant to be inclusive and rooted in the community, which is why the concept of implementing a public restaurant made sense in the project. The school offers, through its restaurant, varied menus open to the general public in a modern, sober and bright space, all concocted and served by the students of the establishment. Also, a store integrated to the building allowing to diffuse the culinary art of the students to the population by the free sale of the developed products. This point of service designed to make the space warm, friendly and unifying, becomes a must in the daily routine of families and seniors in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The design of the spaces reinforces the very function of the building<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the design of the spaces in this project was designed to reinforce the very function of the building. Since the facility is primarily a school, and thus a place for the dissemination of learning, the spaces were thought to expose the work of the students through windowed sections overlooking the kitchen workshops. The large windows open to curiosity, to the sharing of experience on the one hand, but also allow those inside to benefit from an optimal entry of natural light, essential to the well-being of the school. Also the bright coloring of the project recalls the flavors, the taste, the food and the perfumes often used in this sector of activity. The dynamism created through this colorful palette is a backdrop conducive to learning for young people.
