L\u2019objectif \u00e9tant de le traiter diff\u00e9remment des deux premiers \u00e9tages. cette attention port\u00e9e \u00e0 la volum\u00e9trie et, donc \u00e0 l\u2019expression d\u2019un ensemble unifi\u00e9 avec les autres b\u00e2timents de la coop\u00e9rative, ancre les b\u00e2timents de la coop comme un tout sur une hauteur de deux \u00e9tages, tel que lors de la construction d\u2019origine. Ainsi, le 3e \u00e9tage est en recul par rapport aux fa\u00e7ades donnant sur Gilford. Sa fa\u00e7ade s\u2019aligne avec le voisin, cependant, le 3e \u00e9tage s\u2019articule par une architecture compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rente. Ce 3e \u00e9tage sera per\u00e7u comme un objet ind\u00e9pendant d\u00e9pos\u00e9 sur le nouveau b\u00e2timent de 2 \u00e9tages. a\u00e9rien et l\u00e9ger, il n\u2019entrave pas l\u2019identit\u00e9 d\u2019origine d\u2019ensemble. Sa mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9, en m\u00e9tal blanc perfor\u00e9, permet d\u2019accentuer le d\u00e9tachement avec les deux \u00e9tages inf\u00e9rieurs, tout en contr\u00f4lant l\u2019intimit\u00e9 et les besoins de climatisation, mais aussi en permettant une superbe vue vers le Mont-Royal. La triangulation du toit permet de limiter les ombres port\u00e9es sur le voisin arri\u00e8re tout en att\u00e9nuant sa pr\u00e9sence pour les pi\u00e9tons.<br \/>\nEn plus des consid\u00e9rations adress\u00e9es au cadre b\u00e2ti avoisinant, la proposition architecturale demeure sensible \u00e0 la vie de la communaut\u00e9 engendr\u00e9e par la proximit\u00e9 des r\u00e9sidences et des cours priv\u00e9es. L\u2019emprunte au sol de la construction propos\u00e9e est telle que l\u2019existante. l\u2019all\u00e9e commune qui relie la rue Gilford \u00e0 la ruelle est maintenant agr\u00e9ment\u00e9e d\u2019une fa\u00e7ade plus anim\u00e9e. Il est pr\u00e9vu d\u2019installer plusieurs bacs de plantations tout au long du garde-corps, en remplacement de l\u2019ancien stationnement. Ce garde-corps sera alors transform\u00e9 en \u00e9cran v\u00e9g\u00e9tal gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des plantes grimpantes. Une banquette ext\u00e9rieure semi-priv\u00e9e, est int\u00e9gr\u00e9e au muret de b\u00e9ton et invitera les r\u00e9sidents de la coop \u00e0 s\u2019y asseoir, dans le but de favoriser l\u2019esprit communautaire.<br \/>\nEn conclusion, la pr\u00e9sente proposition prend parti de r\u00e9habiliter l\u2019expression identitaire de la coop sur Gilford par le renforcement de l\u2019unicit\u00e9 de son langage urbain. Le patrimoine de cet ensemble b\u00e2ti en 1910 ne r\u00e9side pas tant dans ses caract\u00e9ristiques architecturales, mais plut\u00f4t dans son implantation qui manifeste un esprit de communaut\u00e9 et de vivre ensemble. Il est important de le pr\u00e9server tout en rehaussant les qualit\u00e9s architecturales du b\u00e2timent \u00e0 reconstruire. <\/p>\n","en":"<p>The project \"Lanterne Gilford\" is located in Montr\u00e9al's historic Plateau neighborhood. The proposed building demolishes and rebuilds one of a set of three buildings in a housing coop that was built in 1910. These existing buildings have a uniform architectural language that allows them to be read as a harmonious whole. \"Lanterne Gilford's\" goal as a project is to reinforce the character of cohesion within the complex while improving the expression of its unity. The lateral fa\u00e7ade which was previously finished in plaster (and in the past 2 years has been removed because of the risk of it detaching) will be replaced with the same clay brick that is being used on the main fa\u00e7ade. The choice of the brick was made after lots of research into which options would best respect the unity of the existing whole which still imparting a new contemporary materiality.<br \/>\nIn the same vein, the height of new building will be three storeys, however, the third storey is treated with a new sensitivity that allows the first two storeys to be read as contiguous with the existing two storey buildings. This allows for the unity of the complex to remain while still adding an extra storey. The third story is set back from the main fa\u00e7ade and aligns with the neighbour outside of the coop just next door. Built to be light and airy the design of this addition does not impeach upon the existing architectural language. Covered in white perforate metal it accentuates the detachment from the floors below while maintaining privacy for the residents, controlling heat gain, and allowing views towards mount Royal in the distance. Furthermore, the triangulation of the roof limits the amount of shading that lands on the neighbours behind while also accenting its presence to pedestrians.<br \/>\nBesides considering the neighbouring buildings, the proposition also remains sensitive to the community's life which is characterized by the proximity of the other residences, and their balconies, and private courtyards. The footprint of the proposed constructing is exactly the same as the existing building that was previously on the site. The shared passage that connects Gilford Street to the alley behind is now embellished with a more animated fa\u00e7ade. Planters will be installed along the guard rail. This will replace the old parking spot. Slowly, over time, plants will grow up over the guard rail transforming it into a living screen. Likewise, with the goal of improving the communitarian spirit, an exterior semi-private bench is integrated into the low concrete wall which invites residents of the coop to take a seat.<br \/>\nIn conclusion, the present proposition takes part in rehabilitating the expression of the coop on Gilford Street through a reinforcement of the unity of its urban language. The heritage of this complex, built in 1910, resides less in its architectural characteristics, but rather in its urban organisation which manifests a spirit and community and living together.
