These organic and transparent undulations obviously evoke the water that is at the heart of the project, but also act as a dynamic background to the characters that we see practicing different sports such as running, javelin throwing, hurdling, shot put, discus throwing and soccer. <\/p>\n<p>Then, the mural extends on the north wall of the building where an illustration and a description of the achievements of a Quebec Olympic athlete have been integrated to honor the memory of the latter. Dans un contexte o\u00f9 les fonctions techniques d\u00e9terminent bien souvent les volumes \u00e0 construire, la forme de ceux-ci est rarement bonifi\u00e9e d\u2019interventions de design coh\u00e9rentes. Dans le cadre du projet de la Station de pompage Rosemont, notre \u00e9quipe a toutefois fait fi de ces conventions traditionnelles et s\u2019est donn\u00e9 le mandat d\u2019allier la fonctionnalit\u00e9 du b\u00e2timent avec une exp\u00e9rience usager agr\u00e9able dot\u00e9e d\u2019une sensibilit\u00e9 esth\u00e9tique.<\/p>\n<p>Cette ligne de pens\u00e9e a guid\u00e9 les concepteurs tout au long de l\u2019\u00e9laboration du projet et a permis de maintenir le cap sur l\u2019objectif principal qui demeurait l\u2019int\u00e9gration harmonieuse d\u2019une infrastructure industrielle au sein d\u2019un parc bien \u00e9tabli. En fa\u00e7ade principale, la fenestration vient agir comme un miroir sur la ville en r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant les actions qui se d\u00e9roulent du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la rue. L\u2019abondance de lumi\u00e8re naturelle \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur est donc omnipr\u00e9sente, au grand b\u00e9n\u00e9fice des usagers. En fa\u00e7ade arri\u00e8re, un volume bas et allong\u00e9 fait face \u00e0 un grand parc dot\u00e9 d\u2019une piste d\u2019athl\u00e9tisme o\u00f9 les athl\u00e8tes se pr\u00eatent \u00e0 la pratique de leurs sports pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s. La fa\u00e7ade arri\u00e8re a ainsi \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme un gigantesque canevas repr\u00e9sentant les actions qui se d\u00e9roulent au sein du parc. Cette fresque format g\u00e9ant dynamise ainsi le concept architectural et g\u00e9n\u00e8re un certain \u00e9tonnement de la part du public.<\/p>\n<p>Dans une optique de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 civile en lien avec la fonction du b\u00e2timent qui est d\u2019assurer l\u2019approvisionnement en eau potable, une certaine confidentialit\u00e9 s\u2019imposait pour cacher les am\u00e9nagements int\u00e9rieurs. Afin de r\u00e9pondre ad\u00e9quatement aux besoins de la Ville, les concepteurs graphiques ont opt\u00e9 pour un jeu d\u2019opacit\u00e9 dans des ondulations de bleu qui font partie int\u00e9grante de la grande fresque sportive.  La murale est certes opaque \u00e0 hauteur pi\u00e9tonni\u00e8re, mais les ondulations de couleurs deviennent de plus en plus transparentes en hauteur afin de laisser entrer la lumi\u00e8re. \u00c0 partir de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur, il en r\u00e9sulte une ambiance claire, bleut\u00e9e et apaisante. Ces ondulations organiques tout en transparence \u00e9voquent \u00e9videmment l\u2019eau qui est au c\u0153ur du projet, mais agissent \u00e9galement comme un arri\u00e8re-plan dynamique aux personnages que l\u2019on voit pratiquer diff\u00e9rents sports tels que la course, le lancer du javelot, la course \u00e0 la haie, le lancer du poids, le lancer du disque et le soccer. <\/p>\n<p>Par la suite, la fresque se poursuit sur le mur nord du b\u00e2timent o\u00f9 une illustration et une description des accomplissements d\u2019un athl\u00e8te olympique qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois ont \u00e9t\u00e9 int\u00e9gr\u00e9es afin d\u2019honorer la m\u00e9moire de ce dernier. Comme le parc dans lequel s\u2019int\u00e8gre le projet porte \u00e9galement le nom de cet athl\u00e8te, les concepteurs ont mis en valeur ce h\u00e9ros du pass\u00e9 en cr\u00e9ant un lien privil\u00e9gi\u00e9 entre le b\u00e2timent et son environnement. Au final, la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une fresque de si grande taille fut un choix audacieux qui s\u2019est av\u00e9r\u00e9 b\u00e9n\u00e9fique. En plus d\u2019amener les usagers \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir un personnage marquant de l\u2019histoire olympique qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise, les visuels fournis par TLA Architectes remplissent des fonctions pratiques et esth\u00e9tiques tout en mettant en valeur le contexte sportif intrins\u00e8quement li\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019histoire de ce site au fil du temps.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>As with most industrial projects, the question of aesthetics is often relegated to the background during the initial architectural programming process. In a context where technical functions often determine the volumes to be built, the form of these volumes is rarely enhanced by coherent design interventions. For the Rosemont Pumping Station project, however, our team ignored these traditional conventions and gave itself the mandate to combine the functionality of the building with a pleasant user experience endowed with an aesthetic sensitivity.<\/p>\n<p>This line of thinking guided the designers throughout the development of the project and allowed them to stay focused on the main objective, which was the harmonious integration of an industrial infrastructure within an established park. On the main fa\u00e7ade, the windows act as a mirror on the city, reflecting the actions that take place on the street side. The abundance of natural light inside is therefore omnipresent, to the great benefit of users. On the rear fa\u00e7ade, a low, elongated volume faces a large park with an athletic track where athletes practice their favorite sports. The rear fa\u00e7ade was thus considered as a gigantic canvas representing the actions taking place in the park. This giant fresco dynamizes the architectural concept and generates a certain astonishment from the public.<\/p>\n<p>From a civil security point of view, in relation to the building's function, which is to ensure the supply of drinking water, a certain confidentiality was required to hide the interior fittings. In order to adequately meet the City's needs, the graphic designers opted for a play of opacity in undulating blue that is an integral part of the large sports mural.  While the mural is opaque at pedestrian height, the ripples of color become increasingly transparent at higher elevations to let in light. From the inside, the result is a clear, bluish and soothing atmosphere. These organic and transparent undulations obviously evoke the water that is at the heart of the project, but also act as a dynamic background to the characters that we see practicing different sports such as running, javelin throwing, hurdling, shot put, discus throwing and soccer. <\/p>\n<p>Then, the mural extends on the north wall of the building where an illustration and a description of the achievements of a Quebec Olympic athlete have been integrated to honor the memory of the latter. As the park in which the project is integrated also bears the name of this athlete, the designers have highlighted this hero of the past by creating a special link between the building and its environment. In the end, creating such a large mural was a bold choice that proved beneficial.
