Les volumes principaux des espaces de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s et des espaces techniques ont par la suite \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9assembl\u00e9s autour de ce point d\u2019ancrage, g\u00e9n\u00e9rant ainsi le volume principal. Afin de minimiser l\u2019impact visuel des volumes techniques sur le cadre b\u00e2ti, il a rapidement \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9 de partiellement enfouir ceux-ci sous la surface du sol et de plut\u00f4t les aborder des masses \u00e9mergentes par rapport au niveau de la rue.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un effort additionnel d\u2019int\u00e9gration architecturale, le toit a \u00e9t\u00e9 inclin\u00e9 en pente douce vers le talus adjacent. Cette douce inclinaison vient cr\u00e9er un toit agissant telle une cinqui\u00e8me fa\u00e7ade et permet notamment d\u2019appr\u00e9cier l\u2019effort de verdissement effectu\u00e9 sur ce dernier. En plus de limiter les \u00eelots de chaleur sur le site, le toit vert symbolise la volont\u00e9 de la Ville de Montr\u00e9al de redonner au parc la surface qui lui a \u00e9t\u00e9 prise. Suivant cette m\u00eame optique de d\u00e9veloppement durable, chaque arbre coup\u00e9 lors de la construction \u00e9t\u00e9 replant\u00e9 dans le parc \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 en plus des arbres additionnels implant\u00e9s face \u00e0 la rue.<\/p>\n<p>Notre intention d\u2019int\u00e9grer le b\u00e2timent le mieux possible \u00e0 son environnement nous a guid\u00e9 tout au long de la conception de ce projet. L\u2019utilisation du b\u00e9ton pr\u00e9fabriqu\u00e9 blanc offre un contraste avec la nature en p\u00e9riode estivale, tout en offrant la possibilit\u00e9 de dissimuler le b\u00e2timent dans le parc durant la p\u00e9riode hivernale en pr\u00e9sence de neige.<\/p>\n<p>En fa\u00e7ade principale du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la rue, l\u2019abondante fenestration agit comme un miroir ouvert sur la ville en r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant les activit\u00e9s des passants \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle pi\u00e9tonne. \u00c0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re du c\u00f4t\u00e9 du parc, le volume bas et allong\u00e9 faisant face \u00e0 la piste d\u2019athl\u00e9tisme agit quant \u00e0 lui \u00e0 titre de canevas et accueille une immense murale mettant en sc\u00e8ne des personnages pratiquant diverses disciplines sportives. Nous souhaitions ainsi cr\u00e9er un lien coh\u00e9rent avec les pratiques effectu\u00e9es dans cette partie du site. <\/p>\n<p>Les espaces int\u00e9rieurs de la station de pompage jouissent d\u2019une luminosit\u00e9 naturelle omnipr\u00e9sente, ce qui d\u00e9tone par rapport aux b\u00e2timents industriels de ce genre. En apr\u00e8s-midi, la lumi\u00e8re fait son entr\u00e9e dans le b\u00e2timent et vient inonder les aires de plancher inf\u00e9rieures occup\u00e9es par les \u00e9quipements principaux. Nos intentions lors de la conception de ce b\u00e2timent \u00e9taient de permettre l\u2019insertion respectueuse d\u2019un b\u00e2timent industriel dans un parc, d\u2019att\u00e9nuer les impacts n\u00e9fastes pour l\u2019environnement et les citoyens, et de contribuer positivement \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire collective reli\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019histoire de la gestion de l\u2019eau potable dans la Ville de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>The main objective of the Rosemont Pumping Station\u2019s project was the harmonious integration of an industrial building in the heart of a vast municipal park. To achieve such a result, the design team&#39;s first intervention was to select an anchor point for the building within the urban grid. The main volumes of the technical spaces were then reassembled around this anchor point, thus generating the main volume. To minimize the visual impact of the technical volumes on the built environment, it was quickly proposed to partially sink them below ground so they could now be approached as emergent volumes in relation to the street level.<\/p>\n<p>In an additional effort to blend the building in its environment, the roof was gently sloped towards an adjacent natural mound. This gentle slope creates a roof that acts as a fifth facade and allows the public to see the efforts that were deployed to add vegetation at this level. In addition to limiting heat islands on the site, the green roof symbolizes the City of Montreal&#39;s desire to give back to the park a surface that was taken from it. Following this sustainable development approach, every tree cut down during construction was replanted in the adjacent park, as well as additional trees planted facing the street.<\/p>\n<p>Our intention to blend the building in its environment guided us throughout the design of this project. The use of white precast concrete provides a contrast with nature in the summer, while offering the possibility of concealing the building in the park during the winter period when snow is present.<\/p>\n<p>On the street side of the main fa\u00e7ade, the abundant fenestration acts as an open mirror to the city, reflecting the activities of bystanders at the pedestrian scale. On the park side, the low and elongated volume facing the athletic track acts as a canvas and hosts a huge mural featuring characters practicing various sports disciplines. With this gesture, we wanted to create a coherent link with the practices carried out in this part of the site. <\/p>\n<p>The interior spaces of the pumping station enjoy an omnipresent natural luminosity, which contrasts with similar industrial buildings. In the afternoon, light enters the building and floods the lower floor areas occupied by the main equipment. Cette douce inclinaison vient cr\u00e9er un toit agissant telle une cinqui\u00e8me fa\u00e7ade et permet notamment d\u2019appr\u00e9cier l\u2019effort de verdissement effectu\u00e9 sur ce dernier. En plus de limiter les \u00eelots de chaleur sur le site, le toit vert symbolise la volont\u00e9 de la Ville de Montr\u00e9al de redonner au parc la surface qui lui a \u00e9t\u00e9 prise. Suivant cette m\u00eame optique de d\u00e9veloppement durable, chaque arbre coup\u00e9 lors de la construction \u00e9t\u00e9 replant\u00e9 dans le parc \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 en plus des arbres additionnels implant\u00e9s face \u00e0 la rue.<\/p>\n<p>Notre intention d\u2019int\u00e9grer le b\u00e2timent le mieux possible \u00e0 son environnement nous a guid\u00e9 tout au long de la conception de ce projet. To achieve such a result, the design team&#39;s first intervention was to select an anchor point for the building within the urban grid. The main volumes of the technical spaces were then reassembled around this anchor point, thus generating the main volume. To minimize the visual impact of the technical volumes on the built environment, it was quickly proposed to partially sink them below ground so they could now be approached as emergent volumes in relation to the street level.<\/p>\n<p>In an additional effort to blend the building in its environment, the roof was gently sloped towards an adjacent natural mound. This gentle slope creates a roof that acts as a fifth facade and allows the public to see the efforts that were deployed to add vegetation at this level. In addition to limiting heat islands on the site, the green roof symbolizes the City of Montreal&#39;s desire to give back to the park a surface that was taken from it. Following this sustainable development approach, every tree cut down during construction was replanted in the adjacent park, as well as additional trees planted facing the street.<\/p>\n<p>Our intention to blend the building in its environment guided us throughout the design of this project. The use of white precast concrete provides a contrast with nature in the summer, while offering the possibility of concealing the building in the park during the winter period when snow is present.<\/p>\n<p>On the street side of the main fa\u00e7ade, the abundant fenestration acts as an open mirror to the city, reflecting the activities of bystanders at the pedestrian scale. On the park side, the low and elongated volume facing the athletic track acts as a canvas and hosts a huge mural featuring characters practicing various sports disciplines. With this gesture, we wanted to create a coherent link with the practices carried out in this part of the site. <\/p>\n<p>The interior spaces of the pumping station enjoy an omnipresent natural luminosity, which contrasts with similar industrial buildings. In the afternoon, light enters the building and floods the lower floor areas occupied by the main equipment.
