Une exposition et une publication r\u00e9v\u00e8lent ces travaux de recherche et cr\u00e9ation dans un r\u00e9cit po\u00e9tique, fictif et scientifique. Les deux fleuves, la Loire et le Saint-Laurent, et les deux m\u00e9tropoles, Nantes et Montr\u00e9al, sont devenus les terrains de jeu d\u2019une g\u00e9ographie inventive.<\/p>\n<p>La production de la r\u00e9sidence s\u2019inscrit dans le prolongement du \u00ab Grand D\u00e9bat \u2013 Nantes, la Loire et Nous \u00bb et du projet urbain \u00ab Bas-Chantenay \u00bb initi\u00e9 par Nantes M\u00e9tropole, qu\u2019elle a mis en marche au sein de la ville de Montr\u00e9al en portant un regard d\u2019analyse critique sur l\u2019appropriation sensible des territoires. Pour Montr\u00e9al, les questions \u00e9taient ax\u00e9es sur l\u2019am\u00e9nagement des berges et l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019eau par la population en milieu m\u00e9tropolitain. Pour Montr\u00e9al, les questions \u00e9taient ax\u00e9es sur l\u2019am\u00e9nagement des berges et l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019eau par la population en milieu m\u00e9tropolitain. L\u2019id\u00e9e de (r\u00e9)habiter le fleuve manifeste le d\u00e9sir de renouer avec le fleuve comme s\u2019il y avait eu une privation alors qu\u2019il n\u2019a jamais cess\u00e9 d\u2019exister. Cela invite \u00e0 se questionner sur l\u2019habitant (qui) ainsi que sur l\u2019habitat (quoi). L\u2019homme, la faune et la flore sont les habitants du fleuve et chacun poss\u00e8de un habitat sp\u00e9cifique \u2013 la rive, \u00ab sur \u00bb l\u2019eau, \u00ab sous \u00bb l\u2019eau. <\/p>\n<p>L\u2019histoire du fleuve est changeante et en \u00e9ternel devenir, au m\u00eame titre que les habitats et ses habitants \u00e9voluent; il s\u2019agit ainsi de d\u00e9velopper de nouvelles fa\u00e7ons d\u2019habiter en utilisant la m\u00e9moire des lieux. Le fleuve raconte l'histoire de ses habitants; il conserve entre autres la trace des populations autochtones. L'influence ancestrale peut encore \u00eatre retrouv\u00e9e dans la gestion du patrimoine de leurs r\u00e9serves. Habiter le flot implique d\u2019habiter le mouvement, l\u2019impermanence, la mobilit\u00e9.<br \/>\nLe fleuve \u00e9tant encore aujourd\u2019hui per\u00e7u comme dangereux et impr\u00e9visible, un synonyme de pollution, d\u2019inondations, ou encore comme outil servant uniquement au transport et au commerce, d\u00e9montre qu\u2019il s\u2019agit en fait d\u2019une vision culturelle \u00e0 changer. Par exemple, le Mont-Royal qui est aujourd\u2019hui consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un poumon vert pour toute la ville \u00e9tait autrefois vu comme une montagne terrifiante. De la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on, aujourd\u2019hui le Saint-Laurent fait peur, mais en cr\u00e9ant un nouveau rapport \u00e0 l\u2019eau, la vision collective peut changer.<br \/>\nEn posant un regard sur la ville \u00e0 l\u2019envers pour voir l\u2019\u00e9volution du sol dans le paysage urbain, l\u2019\u00e9volution de ses rives est r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e. Ce nouveau regard sur la ville sugg\u00e8re une prise de conscience de notre patrimoine vivant. L\u2019explorateur dot\u00e9 de cartes historiques observe l\u2019addition et la soustraction du sol qui r\u00e9v\u00e8lent des tr\u00e9sors oubli\u00e9s dans les d\u00e9blais et remblais de notre territoire. En creusant le socle commun, l\u2019histoire \u00e9merge. Tandis que l\u2019homme creuse en grand entrepreneur qu\u2019il est, les terres excav\u00e9es s\u2019accumulent et sont remani\u00e9es, remu\u00e9es, stock\u00e9es ou model\u00e9es, pour fa\u00e7onner un paysage fluvial. Sous l\u2019effet de la pluie et de la fermentation naturelle, la quantit\u00e9 de d\u00e9chets stock\u00e9s produit une concentration de polluants. Toutefois, le sol d\u00e9contamin\u00e9 par la phytorem\u00e9diation peut agir en tant que filtre naturel pour r\u00e9tablir un \u00e9quilibre et surtout pour jouer son r\u00f4le vital de sol vivant. Ainsi, le sol en tant que premier filtre d\u2019\u00e9puration, alimente Unda, la machine vivante du fleuve, en eau.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>A team of French residents, together with a team of Quebec residents, create a common body of work on the theme of \u201c(Re)Inhabiting the river.\u201d Through a two-part residency, in Montreal and in Nantes, these works question the metropolitan connection of the river to the city and vice versa. An exhibition and publication reveal the result of this research and creation process through a poetic, fictitious and scientific narrative. Both pairs of metropolises and rivers, Nantes and Montreal, the Loire and the Saint-Lawrence, became the playground of an inventive geography.<br \/>\nThe production of this residency is inscribed in the prolongation of the \"Grand D\u00e9bat \u2013 Nantes, la Loire et Nous\" and of the urban project of \"Bas-Chantenay\" initiated by Nantes M\u00e9tropole. The project is set in motion in the city of Montreal by taking a critical look on sensitive appropriation of territories. For Montreal, these questions were focused on the development of riverbanks and access to water by the population in the metropolitan area.  The idea of (re)inhabiting the river manifests the desire of reconnecting with the river as if there had been a deprivation of it, even though it never ceased to exist. This invites us to question the inhabitant (who) as well as the habitat (what). Man, flora, and fauna are the river\u2019s inhabitants, and each has his own specific habitat: the riverbank, the water\u2019s surface and its riverbed.<br \/>\nThe river\u2019s history is ever-changing, just as its habitats and inhabitants evolve \u2013 it is thus a question of developing new ways of living by using the place\u2019s memory. The river tells the story of its inhabitants; it preserves the traces of indigenous populations. Their ancestral influence can still be seen in the management of the heritage of their reserves. Inhabiting the flow implies inhabiting movement, impermanence, mobility.<br \/>\nHowever, the river still perceived as a dangerous, unpredictable, synonym of pollution, floods, or even a tool for transportation and commerce today. There lies, however, a cultural construction bound to change. The Mont-Royal for example, which is now considered like an important green lung for the entire city, used to be perceived as a terrifying inaccessible mountain. Similarly, the Saint-Lawrence River, while menacing today, can also shift in our collective vision as our relationship to water transforms.<br \/>\nBy glancing at the city\u2019s underside to see the soil\u2019s evolution in the urban landscape, the transformation of its riverbanks is revealed. This new outlook on the city suggests a rising awareness of our living heritage. The explorer, equipped with historical maps, observes the addition and subtraction of soil that reveal forgotten treasures through the excavation and backfilling of our land. By digging through the bedrock, history emerges. Excavated soil is accumulated, altered, churned, stored, and shaped to form a fluvial landscape. With rain and natural fermentation, the amount of stocked waste generates a high concentration of pollutants. Yet, soil decontaminated through phytoremediation can act as a natural filter to re-establish equilibrium and to serve its vital role as living soil.
