Au 2e \u00e9tage, le foyer existant est encadr\u00e9e de deux meubles bas et \u00e9tag\u00e8res fabriqu\u00e9s sur mesure, aux lignes simples, le tout peint en blanc: le foyer garde son importance en tant que point focal au s\u00e9jour. <\/p>\n<p>Les meubles choisis allient confort et style contemporain. Les palettes de couleurs d\u00e9termin\u00e9es avec le client sont dans les tons froids et chauds: brique, vert, jaune, blanc, noir et gris pour le 1er \u00e9tage et bleu marine, jaune, cuivre, greige, blanc et gris pour le 2e \u00e9tage.<\/p>\n<p>Le verre transparent est utilis\u00e9 dans les meubles, les lustres les cloisons afin d\u2019all\u00e9ger l\u2019ameublement et de permettre au regard d\u2019aller vers l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur. La translucidit\u00e9 des rideaux greige permet \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur de p\u00e9n\u00e9trer vers le s\u00e9jour jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la cuisine: l\u2019architecture patrimoniale environnante du quartier est pr\u00e9sente en permanence.<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9novation atypique de la cuisine est \u00e9galement faite dans le respect des styles et des mat\u00e9riaux: les armoires sont repeintes; seuls les comptoirs, dosserets, poign\u00e9es et luminaires sont remplac\u00e9s. La transformation se base sur le choix des couleurs, des textures ainsi que l\u2019\u00e9clairage. Les couleurs existantes sont ternes. Le bleu nuit, le blanc, le gris et le cuivre sont choisis. C\u2019est la m\u00eame palette de couleurs utilis\u00e9e au deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9tage, elle permet d\u2019harmoniser l\u2019espace cuisine avec l\u2019aire ouverte (salle \u00e0 manger et salon) de style contemporain. Located in an edifice built in 1865-1866 and of industrial use, this condo was the subject of a first transformation in the year 2000: the building underwent a change of use, it was transformed into a residential building.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty (20) years later, the new owners of the condo want to update and furnish it with one main goal:  to keep the industrial character as well as the elements testifying to its history. The transformation into a \u2018home\u2019 is achieved through styles, meaning and transparency.<\/p>\n<p>Brick walls, witnesses to the history of the building, are preserved. On the 1st floor, an industrial-style glazed partition replaces hanging panels and transforms an open space without windows into a well-lit girl&#39;s bedroom, in soft colors: it receives abundant light from the well located on the second floor, it illuminates the adjacent entrance to the apartment. On the 2nd floor, the existing fireplace is framed by two custom-made base cabinets and shelves, with simple lines, all painted white: the fireplace retains its importance as a focal point in the living room.<\/p>\n<p>The furniture chosen combines comfort and contemporary style. The color palettes determined with the client are in cold and warm tones: brick, green, yellow, white, black and gray for the 1st floor and navy blue, yellow, copper, greige, white and gray for the 2nd floor.<\/p>\n<p>Transparent and satin glass is used in furniture, chandeliers and partitions in order to lighten the furniture and allow the gaze to go outwards. The translucency of the greige curtains allows the outside to penetrate towards the living room as far as the kitchen: the surrounding heritage architecture of the district is permanently present.<\/p>\n<p>The atypical renovation of the kitchen is also done respecting styles and materials: the cupboards are repainted; only the counters, backsplashes, handles and light fixtures are replaced. The transformation is based on the choice of colors, textures and lighting. Existing colors are dull. Midnight blue, white, gray and copper are chosen. It is the same color palette used on the second floor, it allows to harmonize the kitchen space with the open area (dining room and living room) of contemporary style. The original counters and backsplashes\u2019 materials are replaced by white quartz.<\/p>\n<p>With the painting and the change of work surfaces, the kitchen gains about ten additional years. Leur couleur, texture, rugosit\u00e9 conf\u00e8rent \u00e0 l\u2019espace une authenticit\u00e9&#8230;\u00c0 l\u2019oppos\u00e9, les murs en gypse sont blancs: ils restent neutres afin de recevoir les papiers peints et autres \u00e9l\u00e9ments d\u00e9coratifs. Le papier peints de la salle \u00e0 manger couvre 11 pieds de hauteur, il est choisi dans des couleurs claires et douces: il est le point focale de la salle \u00e0 manger, sans pour autant \u00e9craser l\u2019espace. La couleur greige des rideaux de la grande baie vitr\u00e9e ainsi que le lustre aux multiples fl\u00fbtes lui font \u00e9cho.<\/p>\n<p>Le vert for\u00eat choisi dans du velour, pour les rideaux et les poufs au 1er \u00e9tage (Entr\u00e9e et chambre des ma\u00eetres), est une couleur accent froide qui adoucit la rugosit\u00e9 et la couleur chaude des briques. Le bleu-nuit est celle choisie au 2e \u00e9tage, pour le fauteuil du salon, les accessoires ainsi que pour la cuisine:  elle rafra\u00eechit le jaune du foyer et du plancher. The transformation into a home is achieved through the senses, style and transparency.<\/p>\n<p>On the 1st floor, an industrial-style glazed partition replaces hanging panels and transforms an open windowless space into a girl&#39;s well lit bedroom with soft colors: it receives an abundance of light from the well located on the second floor, which illuminates the adjacent entrance.The choice falls on this partition in order to preserve the industrial character of the entrance to the apartment. On the 2nd floor, the existing fireplace is framed by two custom-made base cabinets and shelves, with simple lines, all painted white: the fireplace retains its importance as a focal point in the living room.<br \/>\nThe furniture chosen combines comfort and contemporary style. It is chosen in the warm and cold tones of the palette determined with the client: brick, green, yellow, white, black and gray for the 1st floor and navy blue, yellow, copper, greige, white and gray for the 2nd floor. A gray sofa takes up one wall in the living room, facing a navy blue two-seater and a cozy faux-fur armchair. Nature is in the spotlight in the dining room: the base of the table is a tree root with tangled shapes, the floral motifs of the mural opposite complete the landscape all the way up.<br \/>\nThe brick walls are preserved: they testify to the history of the place. Their color, texture, roughness give the space a feeling of authenticity&#8230; In contrast, the gypsum walls are white: they remain neutral in order to receive wallpapers and decorative elements. The dining room wallpaper covers 11 feet in height, it is chosen in light and soft colors: it is the focal point of the dining room, without overwhelming the space. It is echoed by the greige color of the curtains of the large bay window as well as the chandelier with multiple flutes.<br \/>\nThe forest green chosen in velvet, for the curtains and the poufs on the 1st floor (Entrance and master bedroom), is a cold accent color that softens the roughness and the warm color of the bricks. Midnight blue is the accent color chosen on the 2nd floor, for the living room armchair, the accessories as well as for the kitchen: it refreshes the yellow color of the fireplace and the floor. The copper of the chandeliers, the handles of the furniture around the fireplace, the faucet and the handles of the kitchen cabinets is a warm color that unifies all. The different shades of gray in the space complete the harmony of the cold and warm tones chosen.<br \/>\nTransparent and satin glass is used in furniture, chandeliers and partitions in order to lighten the furniture and allow the gaze to go outwards. The apartment where this kitchen is located IS in a building built in 1865-1866. It underwent a first transformation in the year 2000: the entire building changed usage. Originally, it was intended to house the oldest wholesale hardware store in Canada. It was thereafter transformed into a housing complex by the McGill Development Corporation. The building is protected under the Cultural Heritage Act (law of Oct. 19, 2012).<\/p>\n<p>The apartment is acquired, 20 years later, by new owners who wish to update and furnish it with one main goal: keep the industrial character as well as the elements testifying to its history. On the first floor (entrance and bedrooms), the industrial style is more present. Upstairs (kitchen, dining room, living room) it is less pronounced. The contemporary style is therefore chosen for the second floor.<\/p>\n<p>The particularity of this renovation lies in the fact that the structure of the kitchen (cupboards, drawers and doors) remains: it is repainted; only counters, backsplashes, handles and light fixtures are replaced. At the same time as the aesthetic aspects, the sections of rotten wood (sink cupboard) are replaced. The old granite countertop is recycled in the renovation of rental apartments.<\/p>\n<p>Modernizing the look of the kitchen that gives away it\u2019s age, harmonizing it with the layout of the dining room and the living room and reviving the kitchen so that it becomes a space where it is comfortable to meet and work are challenges to overcome. The transformation is based on the choice of colors, textures and lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Existing colors of cabinets, backsplashes and countertops are dull. A palette of cold colors enhanced by warm colors is chosen: the client absolutely wants dark blue cabinets. The choice falls on midnight blue, white, gray and copper to warm up the whole. It is the same color palette used on the second floor to harmonize the kitchen with the open area (dining room and living room). The colors are distributed in such a way as to create a balance of blue and white volumes: the module of horizontal glass cabinets is painted white. With its backsplash, it echoes the volume of the counter\/bar changed to white quartz, opposite. The rest of the cabinets are painted midnight blue.<\/p>\n<p>In order to bring light into this midnight blue space, the textures are varied: blue and white satin paint, smooth and shiny quartz for the counters and backsplashes and satin copper for the handles, faucet and light fixture above the counter. The light is reflected in these surfaces and gives a soft clarity to the space, without blinding. The gray boucl\u00e9 fabric of the stools softens the midnight blue and white tones.<\/p>\n<p>The lighting above the counter\/bar is chosen so that it enriches the sobriety of the midnight blue cabinets with its color and texture of glass;  and so that it is harmonious with the chandeliers in the open area: copper and textured glass are used. The lighting under the counter cabinets is also replaced and in combination with the quartz (counters and backsplashes) the worktop is very well lit and looks larger.<\/p>\n<p>With the painting and the change of work surfaces, this kitchen gained at least ten more years.
