Ce mini b\u00e2timent avec son toit \u00e0 deux versants s\u2019apparente \u00e0 une petite maison, donnant \u00e0 la r\u00e9sidence au complet une esth\u00e9tique de maison traditionnelle. <\/p>\n<p>Cette annexe, comme perch\u00e9e dans les airs, se d\u00e9tache structurellement du b\u00e2timent originel, mais s\u2019int\u00e8gre \u00e0 la fa\u00e7ade arri\u00e8re-gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa palette de couleurs. Le toit gris m\u00e9tallique et le corps en bois font \u00e9cho au mur de pierres calcaires de St-Marc et aux cadrages en bois fonc\u00e9. <\/p>\n<p>L\u2019intention architecturale a \u00e9t\u00e9 de travailler l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur et l\u2019int\u00e9rieur avec la m\u00eame coh\u00e9rence afin d\u2019unifier la transformation de la maison. \u00c0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de la r\u00e9sidence se d\u00e9veloppe le m\u00eame langage que pour l\u2019enveloppe : une palette claire et neutre laisse s\u2019exprimer la chaude pr\u00e9sence du bois. Aussi, la mati\u00e8re est d\u00e9clin\u00e9e sous toutes ses formes. Dans la salle de bain des enfants, le comptoir, le lavabo et la tablette de la douche sont sculpt\u00e9s par un gr\u00e8s porcelaine picot\u00e9e rouge. Un rideau de couleur vive de m\u00eame teinte accentue le caract\u00e8re joyeux et dynamique de la salle d\u2019eau. Le textile donne du relief \u00e0 l\u2019espace, \u00e0 l\u2019image des petits points color\u00e9s de la c\u00e9ramique.<\/p>\n<p>Le terrain de jeu de cette transformation a \u00e9t\u00e9 dict\u00e9 par la largeur de seulement 20 pieds de la fa\u00e7ade. Les architectes ont travaill\u00e9 les liaisons entre les niveaux pour ne pas perdre trop d\u2019espace et pour optimiser chaque pied carr\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019escalier qui relie les quatre niveaux a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u sans contremarches avec un garde-corps en fines feuilles m\u00e9talliques afin de laisser traverser la lumi\u00e8re depuis la cour arri\u00e8re jusqu\u2019au c\u0153ur<br \/>\nde la maison. \u00c9l\u00e9ment architectural assum\u00e9 et visible dans l\u2019aire de vie commune et \u00e0 travers le plancher de verre du premier \u00e9tage, l\u2019escalier se d\u00e9coupe le long d\u2019un mur textur\u00e9 peint \u00e0 la chaux. Il verticalise l\u2019espace, donnant une impression de grandeur malgr\u00e9 une hauteur de plafond r\u00e9duite dans la cuisine. Et pour se sentir moins \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9troit, les architectes ont ouvert le salon et la salle \u00e0 manger sur la cour arri\u00e8re. La terrasse tout en bois est ajour\u00e9e pour amener de la lumi\u00e8re au sous-sol.<\/p>\n<p>Pour optimiser l\u2019espace, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a favoris\u00e9 un mobilier int\u00e9gr\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019architecture. Une paroi utile sert \u00e0 la fois de rangement et de cloison entre l\u2019entr\u00e9e et la cuisine. Une des deux portes coulissantes cache le garde-manger et permet \u00e0 cette grande famille de dissimuler plus facilement le d\u00e9sordre et ainsi de d\u00e9sencombrer l\u2019espace commun. La paroi en ch\u00eane rouge donne sa convivialit\u00e9 \u00e0 la cuisine. Les poign\u00e9es en bois int\u00e9gr\u00e9es cr\u00e9ent une trame et donnent du relief \u00e0 la cloison.<\/p>\n<p>La r\u00e9sidence De la Cime gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ses interventions ing\u00e9nieuses et g\u00e9n\u00e9reuses participe \u00e0 une architecture montr\u00e9alaise qui prend en compte la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 des familles en milieu urbain.<\/p>\n","en":"<p>To respond to the need for space from a couple and their three children wishing to reside on the Mount-Royal Plateau, Appareil Architecture converted a duplex into a single-family residence. The dug basement and the mezzanine, perched on the roof, offer 4 livable levels at the heart of the city.<\/p>\n<p>While the front fa\u00e7ade shows no trace of this transformation, the back reveals the expansion through the addition of a floor that hosts the main bedroom and its protected terrace. This mini building with its gabled roofs resembles a small house, lending the residence the aesthetics of a traditional house.<\/p>\n<p>This annex, which seems to be perched in the sky, is structurally detached from the original building, but is integrated into the back fa\u00e7ade thanks to its color palette. The metallic grey roof and the wooden body hearken to the St-Marc limestone and to the dark wood frames.<\/p>\n<p>The architectural intention was to work the exterior and interior in a coherent manner, so as to unify the house\u2019s transformation. Inside the residence, the same language develops as for the envelope: a clear and neutral palette leaves place for the wood\u2019s warmth to express itself. Additionally, the material is declined under all its forms. In the children\u2019s bathroom, the counter, the sink and the shower shelf are sculpted in a sandstone porcelain with red polka dots. A brightly colored curtain in the same hue accentuates the washroom\u2019s playful and dynamic nature. The textile gives texture to the room, in the image of the ceramic\u2019s small colored polka dots.<\/p>\n<p>This transformation\u2019s playing field was dictated by the fa\u00e7ade\u2019s width, spanning only 20 feet. The architects worked the links between the levels to not lose too much space and to optimize each square foot.<\/p>\n<p>The staircase linking the four levels was completed without rises and with a railing made of fine metallic leaves, to let light enter from the backyard through to the house\u2019s heart. A bold architectural element, visible from the communal living space and through the first floor\u2019s glass floor, the staircase is delineated along a long, limestone wall. It lengthens the space, giving an impression of height despite a lower ceiling height in the kitchen. To feel less cramped, the architects opened the living room and dining room onto the backyard. The all-wood terrace is made in openwork, to bring light into the basement.  <\/p>\n<p>To optimize the space, the team favored furniture that is integrated within the architecture. A useful wall serves both as storage and a partition between the entrance and the kitchen. One of the two sliding doors hides the pantry and allows this large family to more easily conceal messes, thus decluttering the communal space. The red oak wall lends its joyfulness to the kitchen.
