The proprietor wants an overall transformation of the south area of the shopping mall, with an aim to enhance the overall style of the south area and fit the more high-end stationed brands, while ensuring the existing overall space is not affected.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a full understanding of the proprietor\u2019s needs, we decided to streamline the whole building with a more concise design language to express the large space. However, after being revamped on-site several times, the building\u2019s structure is now very complex, making it impossible to apply the minimalist program to the whole ceiling on the second floor of the project. After the demolition, a huge complex structure of steel columns is exposed. Finally, we decided to respect the conditions of the site and the original structure and, by making good use of the tension and beauty of the structure, as well as the dynamic lines running up and down through the escalator, the original and rough beauty of the building is slowly extended from the first floor to the second floor. As a result, we turn the original challenge into a design highlight, merging the old and new spaces into one by showing full respect to the status of the original building as we had planned.<\/p>\n<p>We chose marble, metal sheet and GRG as the main material, because we want to use common materials for their real texture. The proprietor wants an overall transformation of the south area of the shopping mall, with an aim to enhance the overall style of the south area and fit the more high-end stationed brands, while ensuring the existing overall space is not affected.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a full understanding of the proprietor\u2019s needs, we decided to streamline the whole building with a more concise design language to express the large space. However, after being revamped on-site several times, the building\u2019s structure is now very complex, making it impossible to apply the minimalist program to the whole ceiling on the second floor of the project. After the demolition, a huge complex structure of steel columns is exposed. Finally, we decided to respect the conditions of the site and the original structure and, by making good use of the tension and beauty of the structure, as well as the dynamic lines running up and down through the escalator, the original and rough beauty of the building is slowly extended from the first floor to the second floor. As a result, we turn the original challenge into a design highlight, merging the old and new spaces into one by showing full respect to the status of the original building as we had planned.<\/p>\n<p>We chose marble, metal sheet and GRG as the main material, because we want to use common materials for their real texture.
