In commemoration, a 400-foot-long interpretive wall and park were constructed to mark its exact location. <\/p>\n<p>The wall, built of layered corten steel and embedded with sophisticated diagrams, audio programming, and lighting that playfully project Manitoba\u2019s history, forms a backdrop to the park, referencing the fort\u2019s original location and boundaries. <\/p>\n<p>The wall is constructed from 4 layers of overlapping steel plate, the edges where they overlap were cut using CNC torches and the 3 visible edges weave their way along the wall creating a mural that depicts the past, present, and future of the site. The mural was created by a team of architects, graphic designers, historians, fabricators, and technology specialists working together and relying on the expertise of each other. The site lighting throughout the park includes large tapered poles brought in from France with colour-changing floodlights, and subtle ground lighting built into the sides of the limestone plinths. The site lighting is controlled by the same system that controls the video array and can change colour and intensity along with the video wall to highlight areas of significance within the park such as the foundation location of a specific building, or flicker in conjunction with the audio to simulate a thunderstorm or flood the entire site with a red light to illustrate a particularly bloody battle. During the design process for the park, it became clear that there was not enough budget to construct the park and the interpretive center at the same time.  The design team felt that the building edge that faces the park was an integral part of the park, and without it, the park would just spill out into an existing surface parking lot.  The decision was made to construct the building face as a weathering steel wall to create an edge for the park and will become the face of the building at a later date once funds are available. The 400 ft. long wall features 3 overlapping layers of weathering steel which represent the past, present, and future of the site. The undulating cut edges of the panels create a mural telling the story of the historical site. The wall sits directly above the historical foundation of the original fort wall on a cantilevered foundation to avoid any damage to the archeological assets below. When the interpretive center is built it will share the foundations and the wall will become its fa\u00e7ade. The wall is equipped with 3,500 led pixels that light up to create an audio\/video display along the entire length of the wall. Intended to evolve over time, the original series of animations feature a bison hunt, the colour designs of the Metis embroidery, York boat, fiddle music, the sound of red-river carts being pulled across muddy prairie trails, paddle wheels, and the first steam engine train to cross the country.
